  • Testing the Remington Slugger, 12 gauge 3" Magnum 1 oz Foster rifled slug (hollow base) in a ballistic gel format at a distance of 20 feet. Using SIM-TEST Ballistic Testing Media that has been recalibrated to match the properties of 10% ordinance gelatin. Brief review pre-shot followed by evaluation of the tested media. Test gun is the Mossberg 590A1 Special Purpose shotgun, 20" barrel.
    With a muzzle velocity of 1700 fps, this 1 ounce (437.5 grains) piece of lead is packing approximately 2800 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. We could see a 50 lb block of gel go airborne!
    Filmed with two Sony HD AVCHD camcorders; HDR-CX560 at 28 mbps 60p and HDR-CX110 at 24 mbps.
    EDITING: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, MP4, 30p, 16 mbps.

    • @jimbo111589
      @jimbo111589 10 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      I think the issue is, is that slugs can kill you without even penetrating soft armor. The force of the projectile alone will collapse your lungs and break your sternum easily. That's why armor gets brought up a lot in slug videos.

    Very impressive back-flip; it was worth the low hit for the aerial acrobatics!
    Been doing some research and was surprised to learn that the pattern on these slugs has nothing to do with stability. They do rotate, but not at a rate that would have any stabilizing effect whatsoever. The raised rifling prevents damage in the event someone were to fire it in a shotgun with a tight choke. The only reason they are slanted at an angle is for marketing. The term - "Rifled" implies greater accuracy.

    Pro tip....
    Three inch 12g rounds kick like a SOB.....
    Take the shoulder plate off you will notice 1-2 holes cut out to save weight.They are the perfect size for nickels (coins). Fill the hole or holes up with nickels the gun will be heavier but will reduce the recoil often considerably.
    When it comes too heavy rounds often a light gun is not always ideal.I had a 7mm magnum synthetic the damn thing would bruise your shoulder even with the proper stance.I traded it for a wood version while heavier it felt like a whole different gun when it came to recoil.

    I would like to state that its hard to get any rounds through a lot of water as water does not compress. if you were to shoot in a pool of water, the surface tension would be hard to break, and might as well be close to a brick wall.

    • @ralffyx
      @ralffyx 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      This. Larger rounds traveling at higher velocity simply fragment in water. Lower speed projectiles don't fragment and are more lethal in water. See mythbusters shooting water to see a good example of this.

      the slug would ABSOLUTELY rip right through both doors, i 100% gaurentee it. he is comparing apples to oranges.. there aren't really any bullets that will go through more than 4-5ft of water, especially with any force. a thin, solid, malleable metal like a car door though? hahahaha, that door hit by this (or any slug) would be like paper to a 9mm.

    its not solid or actually rifled...water has a different effect then metal doors but the best car door killer I have seen is the old remington solid copper slugs...the newer ones work also but open up the old ones never opened up so got replaced. Also a home made armor penetrator for car doors is cut off the bottom of a steel CO2 canister for pellet rifles and fill with melted lead...heat the darn steel some first so the hot lead doesn't sputter out on to you from the heat and cold coming together. Myself I cut open .50 BMG rounds and use the armor penetrator and or use the pulled 50 bmg API rounds whole..oh those are on sale at midway usa they ahve different wieghts and lengths in 12 ga so check them all out becuase 3-4 a box is darn good!

  • @dogfather68
    @dogfather68 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Is this the ideal type of round one would need to stop a bear? I don't hunt them, but I sure don't want to be their snack either.

      jimbo111589 Yep. Yessireeebob. it'd drop 'em like a bad habit. I think you could actually use this on dinosaurs. This is exactly what the Alaska State Troopers are issued for use against bears.

    can't help but think about handgun caliber power arguments versus what a good old 12 gauge can do. Completely different universe.
