    My Sources For This Series:
The Books: Electronic Drumfax: Vintage Electronic Drum Kits (1970-1990) and The Complete Simmons Drum Guide: The Rise And Fall Of Simmons Electronic Drums by Alex Graham. Those are the very best books on electronic drum history that you can buy. Go buy both of them, you won’t be disappointed. Another helpful book was Electronic Drums. By Frank Vilardi and Steve Tarshis. It was written around 1985 or so and features lots of mini-reviews of early electronic drums from the early 80s (it even comes with a Flexi-Disc record). The Complete Simmons Drum Book by Bob Henrit is also a great read. I was lucky to buy it for $60. The book is out of print and going for up to $160 online. Also the book All About Electronic Percussion by Mike Snyder.
The Magazines: Modern Drummer, Sound On Sound, Electronic & Music Maker Magazine, International Recording Musician & Recording World, One Two Testing, Music Technology, and Digital Drummer were all very useful. I had a date by date timeline from the book collection, but these magazine reviews gave me context on what the drums were like to play, how the drum companies were doing, and whether or not the different drum sets were any good! A big thank you to www.muzines.co.uk for archiving many of the older, out of print magazines I mentioned. Instead of having to spend thousands of dollars to buy those magazines, I was able to read the digitized versions on that website. The most comprehensive magazine for electronic drum information was Modern Drummer. People lovingly covered anything from 1960 to 1989, and the internet really helps with anything from 2000 onward. But there’s a large information gap when it comes to 90s era electronic drums. So I went through about 35,000 pages of Modern Drummer Magazine to fill in different information gaps I had and to find advertisement photos. Digital Drummer Magazine has been a great resource. It began in 2010 and has been very detailed in its coverage of edrums.
Websites: HellFireDrums.com was very helpful in its coverage of edrum news as it happened from 2007 to 2014, reading through all the posts helped not forget certain kits, and nail down the dates. The Vdrums.com forum has helped me countless times over the years, including during the making of this video. Seeing chatter about upcoming edrum kits from about 2000 until today helped me nail down difficult to find information. Believe it or not, Facebook has helped out tremendously. The “about'' section of each company page usually contains a brief history of the company and a founding date. Plus going through posts from different companies lets me see when a new cymbal for drum set was introduced. I of course visited dozens of company websites to get official information of different releases, but many delete old press releases and no longer list their drum lines beyond a generation or two. I can’t forget the Wayback Machine from Internetarchive.com. This amazing tool lets you see websites from whatever year you want, it helped my research in this video.
People: I contacted various people work in electronic drum companies. Including Kat Inc, 2Box, Diamond Drums, Roland, and Bertesi.

Phenomenal job on the whole series. There's a great history to electronic drums and still much more to tell in the coming years. The future is unwritten and there's many more chapters ahead.

HI had a Millenium MPS 400 ekit. It came with rubber heads, I soon converted them to mesh heads. Then later on added a Real Drum snare pad, Roland hi hat cymbal, an foot pedal then finally changed the module to a Roland TD8.
Worked for me an sounds great!

Still got a TD20K. Still up to date, still a killer kit. Hi-Hat, 3 "crashes" one ride and additional pads.
4 toms, Snare, B-Drum. I'll never go back to acoustics after this experience. Got 50 kits on the same Drum! Can play at three in the morning. What else? 😂
And i love the face the sound engineer does when you give him a left and right jacks and you say: Don't worry, just manage the volume...😅
Priceless! No more sound check for the Drums!

Thomann also has its own acoustic cymbals brand named Zultan. These are high quality cymbals made of b20 alloy produced exclusively for Thomann by a company called Turkish. Very affordable cymbals that in terms of quality don't lag behind the hi-end series of Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Meinl.
P.S. Great video, I hope you will be more active on TH-cam

I had an old pd7 back in 95 , but traded in for a 1981 export floating Tom acoustic kit. Everyone told me the crowd does not like electronic drums. Now I have a hybrid kit..thank you

I own a Millenium MPS 750. My answer to how Millenium are cutting the prices is that they do it by cutting durability. They use one ply mesh heads that are kinda durable, but the materials for the triggers are getting easily broken. I’ve already repaired the triggers for all my Tom pads and my snare pad, and switched to a Drum-Tec two ply mesh head.
Also, another way to cut the price is the weak drum rack. I constantly need to fix the position of my snare after playing a song, because the bolts are messed up and I can’t find the exact size for the place on the rack. Also, it moves too much. I’ve had to fix the rack one or two times every month. Now I use strings that hold the parts of the rack together too, so they stop moving, because they were moving even tho I am using a carpet.
The cymbal stands also have problems. The mounted hi hat is constantly moving and the female port of the pad is almost not working. I’d have to fix that soon too.
I will fix the stands, change the toms’ heads to the Drum-Tec design series one ply, fix the hi hat pad, find bolts for the snare and sell the drums for half of the original price. I’m soon getting a new electronic drumset.

I don't play drums. I play guitar badly :D I've been thinking for a while about learning as I've always loved the instrument. Reality got me thinking practice pads until I realised I could get a cheap electronic kit for similar money. I've been watching your videos and checking the ads. I would like to suggest you do something similar to this but covering say the evolution of a brands offerings in a price range, or maybe some vids of models that have common problems. I know you've done some of this. You've done beginner buyers guides etc, but it's tricky to pin down kits to avoid in the lower price brackets. I am in Australia so a lot of stuff isn't available and our prices are different here. Thank you very much for the clear and informative videos.

This series was a great watch, certainly learnt a lot. Seems like now is the best time to get into edrums as there is so much choice. I was really on the fence about A2E for a while but looking at the choices in 2019, I made up my mind in a space of a few days and bought a 7Pc Tama Superstar Classic as it was incredibly cheap, looked awesome and was the best candidate for a A2E during the planing stage. Completed in early 2020 due to global issues but this is my dream ekit with pretty much zero compromises. I run a TD50/TD27 with the Upgrade pack, ATV cymbals, RDrums triggers, Drum-Tec Real Feel's and Tama HW. I also have a Mimic Pro but I love the SD3 SDX's too much to not to that. Your videos have definitely been a lot of help with this project. Now I just need to get my hands on the Roland 14"/16" thin cymbals...they are just unobtainable!

    This was excellent !!!
I've been trying to find a good window to watch this for a very long time, so I could get through the entire thing in one sitting.
    Wow !!!!!
    What an amazing history...
And a bit confusing history too.
Confusing in the sense that there was some really great electronic drum sets and technology decades ago, yet newer edrums have a lot of problems and machine gunning or things that don't trigger right, or bad sounds.
It's pretty interesting how some companies like Roland have held back a lot of ingenuity because they came up with mesh heads first and it put a lot of people out of business or stopped ideas from happening.
I have the Td27 with the digital snare, and I think that's really amazing, but I guess of course the company that has the best gear on the market is the one who held everyone back.
I don't know if I can down grade though, and I don't think anything is even close to it that works that well.
Hopefully other companies give some competition now that they can't get sued.
    Good thing for copyright limits...lol
    Anyways....
Thanks for making such a great video !!!!!!
    Well worth the time !!!!!
    😁👍

Awesome walk down this historic path. Many thanks. I started with an SDSV kit, SDS7 then back to acoustic. I now play a TD-50KV with more add-on cymbals and love adding my own samples and the programming abilities. Cheers, JB ☮️🥁

Ah yes, the ZMC-1, the most legendary mic lost to time forever. Never found any sound demos of this
