I like using the stud shooters as rocket launchers. Especially when I add a “shoulder brace” to the back. However I strongly dislike them as a standard weapon.
I think they are great for playing but LEGO just uses them way too often. If you have 10 that's more than enough for playing. For the rest you just want something that looks nice.
Rocket launchers don't often have a "shoulder brace" or stock. This is because they have an open back which pushes air back instead of you so there is close to no recoil.
@@Khetamine yeah I know, but we are talking about energy weapons so there is no reason that they cant have “shoulder braces”. Besides, Star Wars universe has “energy rocket launchers” of a sort, and this is what I had in mind.
@@trenchlord6986 Yeah, I agree with you. Enjoy Legos however you want. Just wanted to share some info for anyone who was curious. I personally do add stocks to my rocket launchers as well.
It looks like a mini M79 which is in star wars version or a Fortnite gun
Me when I see the stormtroopers: "Its evolving, just backwards"
Lol
Lol
Lol
This is an unpopular opinion but I like the newest stormtrooper.
Yes like all of the lego themes I feel that it’s gotten worse
Y'all remember when lightsabers lit up when you pushed the head down?
Pepprage farm remembers. But yes, I do, had a Darth Vader that did that.
That was awesome, I loved those figures, also what the heck are you doing here
Yes, and I absolutely hated those! It hindered the movement of the Minifigures so bad. It made lightsaber duels and even just posing the Minifigures super awkward.
The remnants of a bygone era
Oh I member
Spring for play
Flick for display
Stud shooters are awful, especially for mini figs.
The bow caster was kinda neat, but the normal stud shooters were just bad.
Damn, I liked them
Agreed though stud turrets are cool
Well in the new tie fighter or the x wing spring, I’d say I like both, it depends what fits the build
I think stud shooters offer good playability but they shouldn't be the default because springs work better and blasters look better.
Good thing The Lord of the Rings figs came early, otherwise they'd give Legolas a stud shooter and Gimli a axe stud shooter.
ohno
_Why didn't they just shoot the Ring to Mordor?_
You have my sword..
AND MY STUD SHOOTER!
Dear lord, I've never owned a lego lord of the rings set but I'd know that would be rediculous.
Stud shooters would work well for Geonosians in Star Wars sets, since they shoot those small balls of electricity or shockwave (don't know what they shoot, only that they are round and slow firing compared to blasters).
Sonic weapons, they liquify your organs
I kinda agree they have there own gun tho
Literally all lego Star Wars fans: “I love the moulded blasters!”
Lego: “stud shooter mould go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr”
They're cool too
@@mosqit4324 agree to disagree
@@lordporgstudios i mean the ones you can attach to bricks but the blaster ones look good as rocket launchers.
True, of course a 1 size fits all is cheaper than molded blasters and as we all know "Only the best" from lego xD
Chewbacca's stud shooter is the only one I like cuz they used to just use a default crossbow
I remember when I was a kid I never liked flickfire missiles because they just didn't fire very well/ far at all. The problem with stud shooters was that the projectiles were so small they were easily lost, and blasters just look better. All variants of spring missiles are the best imo.
Their one redeeming feature is that the low launch distance reduced loss likelihood.
In my opinion spring missiles are to easily accidently shot and to easily misplaced considering their translucent and fire farther, I want flick fire back :(
I agree
I prefer Flick Fires because: -they were easy to customize, easy to understand and use, took up less space, and could have a whole flick missile barrage set up on your build. The only real bad thing was Lego would often use them AS the weapons on a vehicle (The AAT and snail droids being good examples.)
I personally love the spring loaded missiles. Also the kind of stud shooters that attach onto regular bricks are fine, but the ones that minifigures hold are just clunky.
Same
SAME
Agreed. The stud shooters look great and work great. The spring fire missiles need to be a bit shorter and should come in solid colors.
@@widgetfilms I hope you mean the studshooters on ships and not the ones for minifigures
@@widgetfilms If the spring loaded shooters were a bit shorter, they wouldn't work
As a Star Wars Fan: Blasters are superior to stud shooters in every way
Exactly, I'm fine with any other of lego's original properties having stud-shooters, but the bulky design is not accurate to Star Wars
I mean for Clone wars I don’t want a disembodied grenade launcher I want a DC-15A or a Blaster Carbine, not that detailed but at lest put in some effort
I don't really like star wars sets (I like some of them) and I can agree with you. I like the blasters more
The amount of gun you can make with the medium size moulded blaster and some lego piece
And blasters are so uncivilized
When flick fire missiles were in sets a lot, i remember how much the fandom genuinely hated them. Everyone would complain they don't work no matter how hard you flicked it
Only OGs remember the megaphone piece blasters
Update:Yo this is crazy I've got a ton more likes than even SpitBrix's comment
I would rather have megaphone blasters instead of stud shooters tbh
@@koreoprezzii I think most of us do
Oh yeau
Miss them
I still have a couple lol
The spring loaded shooter made the Lego Star Wars sets more accurate. They also have quite a bit of range allowing you to fire them across the room. Wish I had these growing up
And outside of being play features, their unique molding patterns make for neat bits of wall detailing.
@@MrCat-zz5eo Yes! I once saw a video where someone said he doesn't mind the function but just doesn't like the way they look. I was like WHAT?? How is that not an epic piece for detailing...
I remember the 1st time I got it, Battle on Saleucami 75037, was the best fun I ever had with a new set
@@christopherstein2024 Agreed. The smooth sloping lines and clean delineation between dark and light bley makes for quite the fine piece of masonry.
I absolutley love flick missles, to this day I still use the flick-missle pod from Galaxy Squad set 70707, Eradicator Mech, as much as I can when building mechs or other combat vehicles.
Stud shooters are good on Geonosians. That is it.

Bru that whet I guessed
Exactly, I had this one
On the old days, we use Imagination so blaster looks like shooting real laser
To me it’s more like pew pew stormy’s death send reinforcements imaginations was crazy
I play with Lego and I would love to do that but stud shooters are everywhere so it makes it harder to do that…
AMEN
Yeah, having to fidget with the pieces to make them shoot and then go look for the stud afterwards to replace it for every shot is a lot more work than the play we get from just pretending.
I remember they weren't accessories
You had to build them with a stud and a microphone accessories
The classic blaster is such an aesthetic. Fits the atmosphere of Star Wars especially well
I was always pretty indifferent to lego projectiles as a kid. I preferred my imagination for the effects and would've much rather had a more accurate build than missiles
I will forever prefer the flick fire missiles. The spring loaded launchers can easily be triggered by accident, take up more space and get lost easily (due to them firing further and being slightly translucent).
Yes and No. I like the flick fire missle where in the "real" are rockets and the spring loaded more on the laser missle type rockets, but yes they are to strong and to big.
You can also rebuild flick fire misses
I hate any kind of projectile launchers. I'd rather just make believe they're firing at eachother instead of launching lego pieces all over the place. Also the hand held stud launchers are way too bulky for what they are. The blaster for example looks like it should fire the lego minifigure equivalent to a tank cannon shell. The regular blaster with the scope looks infinitely better in comparison
@@Gameprojordan You are completely right. If i play with lego, i Just use my imagination for shooting Just like the Electric piece i don't touch another figure with the Electric piece i Just use my imaginationary Electricity :)
I liked how the flick-fire missiles could be more easily repurposed as other things. A spring loaded launcher and bullet are harder to use for other things besides it's original purpose.
5:15 Stormtrooper with non shooting gun vs stud shooter gun. I prefer regular gun because every time I get a stud shooter I lose the studs
You totally missed the first lego stud shooter.... the Pirate Cannon from 1989. Sold with only the first wave of the black sea baracuda in 1989. Then outlawed in the US as a choaking hazzard. It brought the change of holes in 1x1 heads and 1x1 round bricks for breathing if a child swallowed it. Lego redesigned the Cannon as a 1 piece non firing. The shooting Cannon was sold in Europe as an accessory pack.
we have the cannons at home.. but not from the baracuda ... we got it from the insulaner set ... dont know the english word
THANK YOU.
Although AFAIK all European sets come with the shooting cannon as standard, I have not heard of any accessory packs, and have like a dozen shooting cannon from standard sets. All of the non-US sets came with the shooting cannons, from the 1980s all the way to the current Barracuda and the Creator 3in1 set.
@@janbfiala there was an European accessory pack, I don't remember the number, of 2 shooting cannons, with the base and wheels (no rubber tires) and a bunch of 1x1 round bricks. Lego created a plastic tube in place of the spring making it non shooting, to comply with US child safety laws, then redesigned the Cannon piece into a 1 piece non firing version for US sets. I do not know if Europe got shooting / non-shooting cannons in which sets. US child safety laws were changed about spring loaded toys after a few children got hurt and I think 1 or 2 or a few died. Big safety issue.
The Lego Mr. Freeze has definitely “evolved” the most over the years.
It evolved than evolved backwards with the new one
"flick fire missiles were the only projectiles available at the time"
This made me realise just how old I am to have played with LEGO Knight's Kingdom cannons... SpitBrix not even aware these existed
Feel old too?
I loved the cannons, I broke the holder sadly from one of the pirate sets
I mean, he's just wrong on that front. They would incorporate Bionicle Glatorian shooters in sets too, they had two forms of projectile
I honestly always loved the flick fire missiles. While I can see where people can see it being tacky or childish, I always thought they were really good for barrage type of weapons to be literally littered over any kind of vehicle, especially when they were hidden and could pop out. One example being the 2007 Hailfire droid set. Always loved the missiles on the set
The Hailfire droid especially makes sense, since flick fire projectiles already look like missiles.
I don’t know if it was the same year, but I had one of those, too. I shot the missiles so much that eventually they’d just slide out if you tilted them! XD
Lego they didn't understand that when their little projectiles hit a target, it just goes "Ping". They think that kids are amazed by it, when in reality it's disappointing. I prefer to imagine everything because it's much more fun.
I loved flickfire missiles because you could take off the tops and replace them with different bricks. I distinctly remember using different colors for different payloads when I was younger.
I remember getting Zane's ice dragon when I was a kid. Its broken apart for many years now, but i have found the original golden shuriken pieces in my leftovers. I feel like an OG fan rn
I played with the set so much a part of the Head broke and the lower jaw always fell off so young me glued it together 😅😕
regarding the stud shooters, I think they're a bit too bulky for mini figures but they can be pretty cool t have on ships and stuff
I still have many of the old flickfire missiles which was a stud-capped axle piece (might not be a proper name) with a cone piece on top. They fell out quite easily! I prefer them to the spring launchers because they can be left loaded, whereas I am afraid of the spring wearing out on the spring launchers over time.
I liked the stud shooters, I thought it was a clever play feature, though the studs are maybe a bit easy to lose because of the speed they fire. There was another not mentioned in this video, the crossbow used in Nexo Knights had a stud shooter paddle, but fires a unique missile instead.
I remember when Storm Trooper helmets looked really funny in Instructions from 2001-2003 xD
The first lego projectile was a simple 1x1 cylinder that fired from spring loaded cannon in Lego sets released in the 1980s
And then various catapult sets
these cannons work like acharm
I like the old one , because you can build small pieces on it and it looks like lego more , like lego is now using plastic to make the exact same model , like the new laser blaster thingly , using stud to make something like the laser gun is what make you creative , you have to think what to use in order to look like that piece , so i think old one is better
The problem with the sping loaded missels is that the the missle piece can only be used for that one piece and lego bricks should always be multipurpose if possible. This is why the flick missels are more lego like. A solution might be to ad a little lego compatible bar behind the head making the spring loaded missiles shoot from both the flick and spring loaded barrels.
Or just, you know, transparent red/blue flick fire pieces
How tf do you even fire flick fire? Spring loaded are better

LEGO Ninjago Rattlecopter 9443
One of my favorite LEGO sets of all time
You have the rattlecopter?! Lucky! I want that one...
i've been out of the lego game for so long that it absolutely blew my mind when i heard about/saw the 2018 miniature legs. also i much prefer the old blaster as they actually look like a weapon and not a weird tube. I grew up with flick-fires so they'll always take the spot, they were also a lot less noticeable compared to the new spring loaded ones in my opinion.
i would honestly prefer having both, as they represent different types of projectile (ie explosives and energy weapons)
When you realize that all of your knowledge of LEGO is dated from 2011
i know that feel
Yoda with no eyes doesn’t exist
Yoda with no eyes: “Watching, always I am.”
Flick fire is better, at least for ascetics, the spring crap is way to bulky, and it sucks. Flick fire also can be hidden and use more mechanical tricks to shoot them.
I much prefer the spring ones, when they’re unloaded they look really good
both? i mean both has its pros and cons and both have good pros ._.
Never really had a preference for any type of projectile, because when I was done building a set I would just imagine the projectiles and their explosions when playing, I would really use the projectiles because I always feared I would lose them, but in my opinion spring loaded work a little better
Honestly for the flick fire bricks I think that both have their uses. For the more recent ones those can simulate laser fire while the other type of flick fire bricks are more for physical projectiles. They should make it so that some sets use the older version(perhaps retooled for modern sets) and for other sets(primarily star wars and sci-fi sets) they use the newer kind.
The stud shooters even invaded bionicle for Christ’s sake.
Fr the last thing I want in my lego role playing is my 8 story(minifig specs) robot behemoth dying to studs
At least ammo is common.
Thought they stopped making bionicles
@@lostvayne104 in 2015 several bionicle sets featured stud launchers
I miss the old shoulder cannons that you would squeeze and shoot the green ball or the spiked ball
Off the top of my head... I seem to remember there being a sort of disc-launcher in, at the very least, one or two of the Mars Mission sets. It was a cylindrical container with a slot at the bottom and a plastic tab on the side that could be pulled back and released to flick the discs out
I also remember Bionicles having a bunch of cool projectile launchers. From my childhood I remember only two (unless you wanna count the let-it-rip style propeller launchers) -- there was an elastic-powered ball launcher for one line and a mechanical 6-shooter with custom darts for another.
My personal favorite of the missiles are the flick fire, my spring loaded shooters always accidentally fire and stud shooters are just ugly
Honestly, a y wing bomber using flick fire for the bombs and spring loaded guns for the front, and a stud shooter for the turret just sounds amazing, am I the only one who sees the obvious nature of using these projectiles like this?
Lol, that thumbnail is so true!
I prefer the flick fire because when I’m playing with my lego sets I accidentally push down on the spring loaded missile and it shoots me in the face
I kinda like the stud shooters, tbh - they’re a cool callback to the old “megaphone” blasters that were used in the old Lego Star Wars sets until the mid-2000s
For the the flick missiles vs Spring shooter, I like them both, I use the spring shooters for integrated laser canons, and the flick missiles for external missiles launchers.
Honestly, the first Yoda Minifigure head looked the most accurate to the movies (other than the coloring). You can see greater detail in the chin and it makes a big difference. His eyes also squint-ier which makes him look much older like he actually is. If they just painted his eyes and have him better coloring that would be the best looking Yoda Minifigure.
1:24 - Is it that Ninjago snake helicopter? I remember my friend having one, great memories
1:26 I have that set! its the rattlecopter.

@@slamknightpl6299 Me too!
Used to have it as a kid 😩😩
The stud shooters are great for making rocket launcher. However, stud shooters being used as blasters make for clunky and large blaster
Hello, brother.
Actually the big cannons came first, with a round projectile. They also had crazy frisbee-like half-automic shooters in some products back in 2007. mars mission had air-powered artillery and bionicle had crazy weapons. Would love to see you feature these old shooters in the years 2000 until 2010. cheers
Those served as the super weapons to many of my and my brothers armies
With the flick fire missiles and spring fire ones, for me they fill two separate aesthetic roles, the flick fire missiles typically look more like an actual missile then a laser where as the springfire ones do look like lasers, so I’ve always thought it would be an interesting concept to use both on something
I liked flickfire missiles bc when not in use they looked like missiles you could see being loaded onto a ship. On the other hand I like how spring shooters can be better integrated into sets
i agree this is why i never minded them at all, they looked cooler than the new spring missles
I grew up on flick fires, I loved how easy they were to implement into custom builds, and also how customizable they could be
me who remembers backwards megaphones with a stud as the blasters: ha, they angry over stutds
I still remember them.
I always used them backwards from their normal backwards position. I just hated the fact that their front end is pointed towards the shoulder.
Best version, super iconic
I remember being so excited when I got one of those pieces, them having been everywhere in the videogame I think.
People would have been upset back then too, however, if they'd _previously_ had a very accurate, unique blaster piece before swapping to megaphone.
@@TristenSarelvun I'd blame the "no guns in fiction because it promotes real gun ownership" movement for that, but understandable none the less lol
When i bought tons of battle packs that had nothing but stud shooters in them, i always had to make a Bricklink order and buy some of the better blasters for the army separately. It was a hassle but worth it in the end.
The spring-loaded shooters work well on vehicles, since they approximate the energy blast of a laser. They are also easy to reload. However, they are too bulky for all applications. The stud shooters have no place in my collection, since they are far too difficult to pick up.

One of my all time favorite sets, 21151 Lego minecraft the end shows what could have been a better reality. It features a flick shooter with thoughtful implementation (Literally into the body of the set and with a trigger MECHANISM), and a stud shooter that connects to a plate. If all stud shooters and all flick missiles were like this, there would be no problems with them. I am of the opinion that it's the BAD sets that make the reputation.
2014-2018 stormtroopers were the absolute best
I remember when they came out with stud shooters. I always thought they were ugly and awkward. The stud rotary cannon is cool, but I would have preferred one that shoots cones, and one that wasn’t so awkward to load. Still cool.
As for the flick fire, I liked it, and when they came out with spring loaders I had mixed feelings. On the one hand they really worked with Star Wars sets, but on the other they have a sort of hair trigger some times, and are sometimes hard to load because of that
TL;DR: stud shooters no, stud cannons yes, flick fire yes, spring cannons sort of
1:20 it's the Rattlecopter from lego ninjago. That set was so good, especially in looks, and the engines on that thing were perfecto
Sometimes stud shooters can intergrate well into a build and add some nice detail to it, like with the most recent Obi wan delta Jedi fighter (sorry I don’t know the exact name) but unfortunately that’s not the case most of the time and the handheld ones are just awful.
flick fire or spring launcher: THE ANSWER IS
it depends
I think the spring launchers are fine for most star wars sets and other builds that you might want to have a more “laser” look to it, but the flick fires are easily customizable, unlike the spring launcher
I personally find the the fick fire piece a very useful part when transitioning with technic and bar recieving parts, it can be used for some nice greeble too. The spring loaded thing can mostly just shoot or be used as a brick with interesting texture (no recolors for it though)
1:10 that flickfire shooter is my favorite
I was hoping you’d cover the 1x1 square clip pieces, because I did notice a difference in those.
I like how the stud shooters capture the bulky aesthetic of the OG megaphone blasters
Nah they're too bulky in comparison. The oldschool megaphone blasters were longer and looked more like a carbine, and were only bulky in the back where it flairs out, but you could imagine the flaired part as being the buttstock for the blaster. The new stud shooters look like way too oversized handguns
@@Gameprojordan the og megaphone blasters looked good for characters who used slightly chunky blasters like the b1 battle droids or boba fett
ok here is what i say
the flick fire missile or ffm should be asosiated with more down to earth lego sets like lego city while the spring missiles or sm should be more off an external brand for thing like star wars
I liked the blaster way more than the stud shooters.
Spring loaded shooters work best when they’re implemented well within the model. The Razorcrest and Imperial Hover-tank spring to mind (pun intended)
The last thing I want to see is translucent rods sticking awkwardly out of the back of a ship.
1:34 That's the Rattlecopter! My brother got that set when it came out and we loved it my favorite part was the jetpack
1:20 it's from helicopter from ninjago series with snakes (i don't really remember the order of these)

Na you loss them to much
I believe that with iron man, the flip-up helmets are more typically used for sets based on his movie appearances, while the other helmet is used for those based on comics or video games, the reason I think we saw such a high amount of the other helmet in 2020 is because none of the sets containing an iron man minifigure that year were based on based on movies. On another note, you seem to state in your video that that piece was new for 2020, it was actually introduced in 2017 for the set 76077 Iron Man: Detroit Steel Strikers
The picture is from the snake copter from ninjago 2011 (I was rebuilding this set earlier)

For blasters I always preferred the old school megaphone / camcorder pieces with the red studs on them. Wasn't a fan of the new, smaller blasters or stud shooters
I was never a fan of flick fire missiles but i do appreciate the variety. I'm not a fan of minifig-held stud shooters either, but i do like the ones built into ships. I really like the newer laser bolt projectiles, but my favorite will always be the technic bullets.
