If anyone is wondering why the whole bit with Kaa and the Bander-log feels so disconnected from the rest of the story, that's because it IS XD The original Jungle Book and its sequel were a collection of shorter stories, most of which focused on Mowgli and his allies and foes in the Seeonee jungle. The average Jungle Book mockbuster mostly follows the plot beats of "Mowgli's Brothers" and its sequel "Tiger! Tiger!" but they also shove in "Kaa's Hunting" as the middle third to pad out the runtime, even though the latter short story really has nothing to do with the whole Shere Khan/wolf pack/man village arc outside of starring some of the same characters (Mowgli, Bagheera and Baloo). They mostly do it because Kaa and the Bander-log were featured in the Disney version, so they are expected to show up at some point. It's no different than watching one of those throwaway anthology films you would get on VHS that just combined a few random episodes from an episodic cartoon and called it a movie. Or more specifically, it's like slapping some random 11-min episode in the middle of a two-parter to make its runtime roughly an hour. If these people cared, "How Fear Came" would make for a better tacked-on middle third, or they could make the last third be "Letting in the Jungle" or "The Spring Running", or some combination of the two.
Sorry to bother you, but now I'm curious on whether the Disney sequel is based on the stories that didn't make it into the original. I could google it, but I feel like I would end up having no straight answear 😅😅. This question is banking on the possibility of you having seen the sequel, but wtv.
