It's funny - I didn't pay much attention to this car or engine - as it was out of my price range. But the news of the XR8 coming back with this same engine for less could make me trade in my FG XR6 Turbo. I like it how both feature over-boost function. Great video. Cheers.
Jesus, listen to that engine noise, crackling exhaust and supercharger whine. I'm a massive fan of the rotary engine and the noise it makes, but I'd fucking love to have one of these as a daily.
from what i have read mate , the power figures are a bit under quoted, so it`s actually making a bit more than the badge , plenty of dyno`s have also reported this, they could have easily dialed more into it , but i suspect they are trying to look after the driveline.
@Fridgemusa Fair call. It's the old saying, "You play, you pay". Obviously as the power increases the longevity decreases. That said, these motors have a lot more potential than the older designed LS motors which still have too little skirt material on the pistons.
The same 5.0L in the GT is in the Boss 302 American Ford. Look at that, with a simple tune and some internal work that thing puts out equivalent to any NA LS.
That being said, the 1999 HSV VT GTS R8, with the Calloway corvette 5.7 not the 5.0 stroked to 5.7, any ford fan could agree was a masterpiece, in 1999 was the worlds most powerful 4 door saloon and generated 300kws, it was/is a magic car. But like I said both companies make their good and shit cars, I'm just glad to see Aussie engineering showing what it can do to the rest of the world. FPV, HSV.... Keep making us proud!
@brazzr Sorry for late reply, didnt see this earlier. Did you read my post earlier? People at Australian FordForums are getting closer to 335kws. Even if you watched a clip with 307kws at the wheels, if you do the math, thats only an 8% drivetrain loss. Commodores and Falcons lose about 15-20% from engine to wheel. So if a falcon is pushing about 307rwkw's that would equate to about 360-380kws at the engine anyway, i.e. way more than 335kws at the engine.
Taken from another comment: The purpose of the supercharger in the Boss 335 (which is run at minimum boost with no intercooler) is to fatten the torque band. Max torque (569Nm) kicks in at 2200rpm and begins to taper off at 5500rpm. The n/a mustang has less torque and doesn't reach max torque until ~4400 rpm.
@Aliasify Just to let you know, people are getting 320RWKW's at the dyno, and the highest I've heard someone get was 333RWKW's (fordforums australia)..... now if you know your calculations, Commodores/Falcons tend to lose 15-20% of power from the engine to the rear wheels.... that means the new FPV V8 engines are making anywhere from 370kws to 400kws... alot more than what HSV is currently offerring for the same price.
@shruz23 WRONG!!! I've seen a video of a proffessional tuning shop that specifically stated these engines are only good for up to 400KW before they pop unless you strengthened the internals!
It's because everything is derated. You can watch a few videos on you tube where they move the rev limit out, let the throttle open more giving more boost so it's not restricting itself. One video they did this and it went from 290kw at the wheels to 370kw at the wheels which is pretty good from standard to a comprehensive tune.
Yes, what a sweet ride. All the bs about boost and super this and that. It's a car I wanted all my life and it has not disappointed. Effortless power and by sitting on the speed limit the drive lasts longer.
im a holden man ive been supporting them since i was born but i also LOVE alot of ford cars especially this one ill probably buy it in 10 years when its forgotten about and then show it off aha
the problem is that the falcon isn't going to be around much longer..in a few years they are talking about replacing it with the taurus, and sending over the mustang aus spec for the v8 range :/
I dont agree about the manual box... it is leaps and bounds better than the T56 in the BA/BF. The TR6060 I feel is precise and with the short throw between gears is great for "spirited" driving. The only down side to the car is that the tyres dont last long enough. I have to get new tyres for my GS very soon!
I'm a holden man, allways have been, allways will be. Seems as though you ford guys have the top dog at the moment. Congratulations. I'm excited about how quick this car is cos it will only mean HSV will have to go big to better it. So good on ya for the moment but I still had a laugh when he said the interior was a little bit taxi! Haha!
they are still pretty weighty, not sure of your car weights, but the GT P model shown is about 1842 kilograms, or about 4052 pounds imperial, i believe the superseded model with the 5.4 v8 was about 40 kg heavier(88 pounds), so it`s win win with the new V8 engine.
@Fridgemusa BTW, I work in engineering and milling and know a little of what I'm talking about. If anything were to pop it would be head bolts which are easily replaced with studs. The bottom end on these things are seriously heavy duty and completely sorted. Ever revved your LS out to 7 grand and been able to tell the tale?
@BlowdownBob I'm saying that, the new 335kw boss engine is 5 litre, SUPERCHARGED. 335kw coming from a 5.0L v8 supercharged. The HSV VE GTS gets 325kw from a 6.2L v8 NATURALLY ASPIRATED. you pop a supercharger on this like the walkinshaw VE GTS and it will shoot up to around 420+kw from what i remember. regardless of displacement, if the holden was 5.0L supercharged, it will still have more than 335kw. lol
@Tribunilus Actually until recently Fords ICC has been much than Holdens Tech offering. And with the FG2 coming next year it wouldn't surprise me if they surpass it again.
I would say Ford Aus are leaving plenty of room to up the figures without too much work, whilst avoiding a repeat of "the supercar scare" of the 70's whilst the emphasis has been placed on economy and efficiency. The Coyote has shown some promise with many unopened motors pushing around 400rwkw with cooler, tune, and exhaust.
I really so like this. I wish we got the Falcon in the UK. Or just get a UK FPV division. That would rule. Some nice hardcore Fords in the UK with Prodrive behind them would be amazing!
@McobraR dude why would they put 335kws on the side of their car when forumns say its at the engine and how come i just watched a dyno of the engine and it actually put out 307kw?????
It’s kinda dose would like that but not as distorted also he only get the supercharger the wine sound when you put your foot down a you only get the pops a cracks when you rev hard. So yeah the sound is pretty exaggerated but if you put a 4’ stainless steel Manta exhaust you can get pretty close to that sound also the manual do sound better.
yea im on aliasify's side, the ford is putting out 335kws with a supercharger and the holden is putting out 325kw with no supercharger. the holden r8 walkinshaw (supercharged) is puttin out 470kw. so get over the w427 cos the r8 walkinshaw spanks ur lil supercharged ford
@blampa I've never revved an LS out to 7 grand because I have never owned one as I am a Ford man! All I'm trying to say is that some of the power figures people are posting on here are pretty over-zealous for stock internals if you want your GT-P to last at all!
I have watched this video soo many times just for the noise. I have driven a few of these and the backfires this thing produces isnt done justice by the popping in this video
@BlackSSV6L Special edition mustang in USA uses the same engine and it makes 330kw, from a 5.0L not 6.2L like in the HSVs. Dont just look at peak power figures, the main story is the torque and in gear performance.... it blows the HSVs into the weeds.... this is real world performance.. regardless what peak power figures say
@Fridgemusa You've seen a video? Numbnuts, these things have been coming out of the factory with around 370kw stock, you think 400kw is going to pop them? For longevity there is an industry standard 50% margin for capacity (it has to last 100,000klm), so based on that alone these things would start to break things at 500kw. Argue all you want, but you holden fanbois would be going nuts of this was yours and not fords.
I'm sad they haven't put halogen lights in the car yet.. I mean, the one thing that makes the European performance cars look unique on a night-lit highway is those bright white lights coming from it.. It's an easy replacement, and there's aftermarket manufactures for them now; but for $80k, I wish they put them in :( Other then that, I'm seriously thinking of trading in my FG XR6 Turbo for one of these - it sounds AMAZING.. that supercharge WHINE!!! *drools*
@kws30777 very good say mate and you're right, HSV will be back bigger and stronger. GM has alot of supercharger for HSV to choose from. I'm a Holden man too but you've got to love their ZF 6 spd gearbox...that thing is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. The downsides are those old headlamps. HSV has alot more toys to play with.
+AutoExpertTV Asshole indeed. He's just another one of the mindless pack animals on TH-cam begging for views, claiming he's an auto expert. Some of his videos are entertaining but his lack of knowledge and "fuck Australia" sentiment bleeds through very quickly. It's quirky at first, his lack of real knowledge is oddly entertaining to watch, as he dances around the issues as best he can while avoiding anything of real substance because he lacks the aptitude to effectively construct an argument around an issue outside of done-to-death cliché. He also needs to ensure his content is one-dimensional enough to be swallowed by the fast food employee demographic who occasionally click his videos. Comparing MLP prices from manufacturer websites, getting the specifications and model names incorrect (who cares right, they're only details), poking fun at advertising campaigns, re-jigging other standard automotive clichés and presenting them as epiphanies is about the scope of his entertainment. And in his latest act of desperation, insulting other automotive journalists seemed like a good idea, but ultimately says "I'm fucked" more than "they're fucked". I mean what's not to love about a step down from Dowling and a (slight) step up from down syndrome?
Elliot Redward I wish he would, I own a manual fgx xr8 as my daily and love every minute of driving it, its sound and feel, smooth yet stiff, snap crackle pops all day long I f you want it to
so the reason why alot of people don't like you John and it's not just you but here in shits Ville, majority if peeps don't like to hear the truth about well anything especially a car they may have just recently purchased etc , etc. I on the other hand enjoy your reviews mate and those who don't like them stop watching, but I notice all you haters seems to keep watching because you know John is knowlegable and honest but then a contradiction is made by a negative comment. I can help.....DONT WATCH.
I've always been a Holden/HSV fan but I tell you what.. FPV are really getting pretty lethal now. This one seems to be no exception. The only thing is the stripes down the side look horrible and ugly, it might have worked back in the 70's but it just looks ricey now.
Great car. I think if anyone had 80k to spend and wanted an fpv or hsv, you'd be silly to choose the hsv. This car offers so much more bang for buck... But i really do like holdens touch screen features... Why cant fpv and hsv make a supercar together and call it the AUGT super car edition, blending the fpv engine with the hsv tech?!!! ( but steer clear of the hsv plastic fantastic look lol).
@V8SupercarMadness I find it funny, good on ya! you guys have had the first chance since HSV was made to be on the winning team! Gratz! but it wont last, As far as i know the GTS isn't Supercharged, i Believe the ford is, If the GTS can almost keep up without one imagine with one................
@bladez0rz23 This will make more torque and hold the torque for longer, it will also make 350-370kw AT THE WHEELS with no modifications bar a tune. Imagine what would happen if you changed exhaust, injectors, intercooled it etc! much better package here.
@Blandy086 Yeah mate I used to be a HSV fan too, but I bet you any money my stock XR6 Turbo will flog the fuck out of a VX GTS. The only thing Holden had going for it was its home built 5 litre, they should have developed that instead of going with the yank tank motor. That's why I'm a Ford fan now.
@trevorhendy123 understood, i am a Ford and Holden fan, as i feel both companies have made their greats and shit cars, i like more fords than holdens, being honest, i LOVE the new GT's with th 5.0lt supercharged "coyote" V8 and hate the VE series altogether no matter what series, the VT GTS was my LAST favorite holden, that being said, i hated the AU falcon also. i have just bought a Ford FG MKII XR6 ute, and i tell u.... its brilliant compared to the SV6
Im not an australian, so i can like both FPV and GT-P, and not make stupid comments and look at the facts. Fact is a supercharged FPV V8 which produces 335kw and 570nm of tourque, which is ok, but the ls3 may be a "push rod peice of shit" but it produces 317kw and 550nm before its even supercharged. The GTp isnt going to spank anything
Is it me or is that guy like 4 ft tall? Seems his seat is pushed up as far as it goes lol. I used to be a bit of a holden boy ....till i owned one. I ride bikes now days but i gotta say, if i had my choice of cars, this one would be right up there. Even next to some of the lower end super cars.
If only america would only take notice at how wonderful australian muscle and american performance worked so well together... but no we have to act like the world police and govern everything we export and especially import into this country ~_~
I have both. It's fucking worth every dollar.
Thanks for letting us hear it as well as see it.
Motorcycle rider at 4:08 was probably like 'Oh shit, how's this gonna end?'
That car is amazing. God that sound is incredible :)
from what i have read mate , the power figures are a bit under quoted, so it`s actually making a bit more than the badge , plenty of dyno`s have also reported this, they could have easily dialed more into it , but i suspect they are trying to look after the driveline.

Hey that's Galson Gorge (Hornsby) about 4.15. Great road!

It's weird seeing the garden gnome outside of the fat cave.
ptaka79 - Actually Holden/HSV don't just put in their LS engines straight in. They make a fair amount of changes to the head setup and tunning.
@brazzr Read my last message. Dyno results show the new FPV V8 engines are actually push out 370-400kws, so don't judge the car by its badge.

love it ford power

FPV FTW its as simple as that. Just wait for all the great reviews to be released. No comparison here!!!

So good on ya for the moment but I still had a laugh when he said the interior was a little bit taxi!
Haha!
are the aussie cars still built heavier than the US ones for the rougher terrain?
@Blandy086 Mate I completely agree with all of the above...except my last favourite Holden was the SV89...lol
they are still pretty weighty, not sure of your car weights, but the GT P model shown is about 1842 kilograms, or about 4052 pounds imperial, i believe the superseded model with the 5.4 v8 was about 40 kg heavier(88 pounds), so it`s win win with the new V8 engine.

Mine comes later this month, I cannot wait
how many of this model was made. I have build no. 15
@@michaelfoley4884 not sure of numbers but now I have my Mustang. Its a nice car but not the soul of the GT. Times change and we move on
America needed this smh too late now though
@BlowdownBob I'm saying that, the new 335kw boss engine is 5 litre, SUPERCHARGED. 335kw coming from a 5.0L v8 supercharged.

We need this car in north America!
engine sounds awsome under throttle... absolute ripper !
@tallica1 not really mate.....all of the motors that go into your Holdens are all imported. the don't make motor's anymore:(
HOLY. BEST V8 I'VE EVER HEARD.
I would say Ford Aus are leaving plenty of room to up the figures without too much work, whilst avoiding a repeat of "the supercar scare" of the 70's whilst the emphasis has been placed on economy and efficiency. @ Cody Brooks if everything is American muscle because it's a 5.0 how come you don't have it in the USA

@VangelonPanos
couldnt agree more. they need brighter lights, something more spiffy than reg globes
@bladez0rz23 the new 335kw Boss engine mate is a 5 litre not a 6 litre :)
must have had the mic taped to the tailpipes
Does the FPV badge on the steering come standard or an aftermarket mod?
It’s Standard on mine front and back an on the steering wheel also on the -and the centre console
Good, spot on review.
This car needs to be in forza 4
I have watched this video soo many times just for the noise. I have driven a few of these and the backfires this thing produces isnt done justice by the popping in this video
how much is it
@BlackSSV6L
Special edition mustang in USA uses the same engine and it makes 330kw, from a 5.0L not 6.2L like in the HSVs.
Dont just look at peak power figures, the main story is the torque and in gear performance.... it blows the HSVs into the weeds.... this is real world performance.. regardless what peak power figures say
AWESOME SOUND AWESOME CAR!!
@V8SupercarMadness im sorry but i red ur comment and OMG OMG OMG......is ford bring back the GTHO? coz if they are i am going to be soooo happy
@Fridgemusa You've seen a video?
Other then that, I'm seriously thinking of trading in my FG XR6 Turbo for one of these - it sounds AMAZING.. that supercharge WHINE!!! *drools*
THIS is a REAL FORD...WONDERFULLL......
I wish we had these in the US
@kws30777 very good say mate and you're right, HSV will be back bigger and stronger. GM has alot of supercharger for HSV to choose from. I'm a Holden man too but you've got to love their ZF 6 spd gearbox...that thing is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. The downsides are those old headlamps. HSV has alot more toys to play with.
Car doesn't need a radio. Just listen to the exhaust or supercharger
supercharger sounds crazzzzyyy
@fordmuscle73 but i watched a vid yesterday of a dyno on the engine, they said 412hp/307kw
and it did come supercharged in some stato's..they were still slow.
what a ride its a great car
Can't stand this guy.. Nice car though.

this car is not intercooled, and the supercharger only pushes out around 6psi..TUNE ONLY i.e no other mods.. these cars gain over 100hp
@bladez0rz23 This will make more torque and hold the torque for longer, it will also make 350-370kw AT THE WHEELS with no modifications bar a tune.
Imagine what would happen if you changed exhaust, injectors, intercooled it etc! much better package here.
could this bloke sit any closer to the steering wheel?
hold on, r u saying that it DOES make the popping sound, or it DOESN'T make the popping sound
@1brymark are you american?
I bet there are comments down there from Holden fans says either "taxi" or "ford's shit, Holden any day". LOL.
@potaka79 And dont get me wrong, its not that i dont like the GT-P, i wish Ford would import them other to the UK just as GM do with the HSV
Fords best
Get together and voice your opinion to Ford in the US, if enough people demand it, well you never know.
@Carnut91 Agreed
just jealous are you mate ,,as if we would send it to the uk ,we keep all the good stuff here lol ford power
No, due to the size ...it would be a replacement for the Taurus.
i understand a bit of ford/holden rivalry, but hater remarks are for tossers, this is a ripping car as is the holden equivelent, great review also.
@R34GTRR35 lol they have gone way pass it sorry i think you mean one day nissan will keep up with FPV and HSV
Is it me or is that guy like 4 ft tall? Seems his seat is pushed up as far as it goes lol.
I used to be a bit of a holden boy ....till i owned one. I ride bikes now days but i gotta say, if i had my choice of cars, this one would be right up there. Even next to some of the lower end super cars.
we are not offended, and will contiune to design great cars for you guys.
you could buy 1 335gtp and about a week of petrol for the price of the AMG
If only america would only take notice at how wonderful australian muscle and american performance worked so well together... but no we have to act like the world police and govern everything we export and especially import into this country ~_~
i`m guessing you got your GT :).
Fuck, what a beast.
I don't need to be sold a ford. was born into them. have a 2007 XR8. never had a GT though.
John your a legend! great review mate, and as for the car, lol it's gorgeous. why on earth would you buy a shitty holden.
Why the hell aren't these in the US???
Because it’s an Aussie legend and I don’t want Americans to ruin our Beauty
because you have mustang
2:02 - I'd buy this car just for that noise and crackle. What a fuken noise!!!
