Just a quick video of how to make a 3x3 DD tarp into a tent. I'm also using my brand new Jet Black DD tarp which i haven't seen many of online. I hope this video helps, Mike.
Great job Mike 👍. Cracking set up and well presented 👍. I could hear your furry bushcraft buddy having a right good chomp on some sticks. She was having a great time out there too 🙂🐶👍. Cheers Mike, all the best fella, Rick n Billy
Hey Cheers Rick and thank you for watching. I actually made a proper tent peg and that unfortunately is what Daisy decided to chew 😂 so I gave up haha.
This is the best Video for people like me who are new to camping and never used a tarp. I watched many other Videos but your's is the best for me! It was so easy to follow your instruction and it was good at my first try! Tomorow I will sleep my first night outdoor in my tarp :) Thanks to you!
Cheers Marco, it's good to see so many say the same thing about this video because I've seen a few out there. Hopefully you got out and give it go. Atb Mike.
Likewise, Steve. I usually set up both my hammock & tarp and my 10X10 shelter tarp for the exact same reason. That, and I get to play with my gear!! It's always a win-win scenario, having two options for places to sleep!
Top man looks cool 👌 have seen this about but never tried it myself but now looking at your videos mike you have explained that perfectly how to do it so I will have to have a go thanks for the video it's brilliant 🤘💯
@mydixiewrecked4582 I tried it last time me my boy went out.. I posted some pics on his TH-cam channel I brought out a 3x2.4m tarp thinking it was 3x3 but still worked well.. Once I had a few trys in the rain
@@TheCheshireWanderer hey mate, thanks for the tip. I posted a couple already. Bit strange when you do the first time. The Steak Detective remains annonymous at the moment 😁
Not seen the DD black tarp before, nice one Mike, its a shame they don't make there tents in coyote brown,it would match that coniferous forest floor really well ☝👍
Cheers Felip, I've not actually seen the DD tents yet but I agree they should make them coyote too. I think the multicam works really well in a pine forest too.
Mostly yes. I've only ever used it within a pine forest where it's quite dark anyway. You could definitely sleep in, in the morning without being woken up by the light.
I use my walking pole instead of a stick. I set it to 1.2m long and it's ideal for this set up. I set it to 1.3m when I'm making a teepee from this tarp as well.
Silly question, i bought a 3.5 by 3.5 DD tarp since i couldnt find a 3by3, but that wouldnt be a problem right to make a tarp tent, i want to test this out
Hi, I've never tried with that size but I guess it'll be tough. If you've tried since your comment, let me know how it went. You can either reply here or send me a dm on Instagram. Atb Mike.
@@TheCheshireWanderer hi, i saw your comment i can send you some pics of it if you like, ive tried it and it works great as a tarp tent, also since its a bit bigger you have more room
Thanks mate, best tutorial I've seen on this set up. Never used it but thinking I will this weekend. Is the pole you used a specific length? Thanks for sharing mate, Andy 👍
Hi Andy, Sorry for late reply. Glad you found the vid useful. Once you've got the tarp pegged out you pull the centre and measure it against a stick then cut to length. It can be different sizes each time you use this set up. Atb Mike.
Watching this, it would be great if DD sold just a tent inner, so a groundsheet and a mesh dome, designed to be used with a tarp like you have done here
Hey Zippy, I've often thought the same thing. I've got a inner from my old Hexpeak V4A and I've been thinking about doing a setup to see if it fits. Thanks for watching Mark, Atb Mike.
@@TheCheshireWanderer yeah figured. im 6ft 4 and a 3x3 is just a little too short for me with this setup :( i borrowed my friends dd 4x4 but its a monster to carry around, thinking about investing in a dd superlite 3x4,5 to see if that would help maybe

Pete you hit the nail on the head there you couldn't say it any better 👍🏼💯
Finally a video that shows how to build this set up.
Hope it was helpful enough for you to copy? How did you get on?
Great video! Like they say in STEP BROTHERS “lots of room for activities!”

I’m impressed with the tarp and your configuration, but that campsite is the most impressive!

Impressed! Rain is such a fickle mistress, as I like to sleep in a hammock which often proves idiotic. This can work as a solid backup.

It's always good to have a backup just in case. Thank you for watching,

Really clear instructional Mike. Pretty steady in high winds mo doubt. Many thanks for sharing. Mark
Cheers Wye and thank you for watching. I'd say stable in winds and you can peg out the other straps and add guy lines on the back if needed.

What could be done to make it bugproof?
Hmmm I'm not sure. You can buy small bug nets but I don't think you'd have much room. Maybe just use it in the winter.
Nice and clear! Thanks very much!

does this tarp block all sunlight going through?
