I wonder if there's a way to modify the game serverside to improve lag compensation. If there was, it'd completely change how we play the game online. But I think it'd be for the best. Less guessing, more accuracy when it comes to item usage and hit detection.
When I saw N64 Skyscraper when playing in a room as soon as the battle update came out a massive amount of nostalgia flooded my brain. (Before I disconnected which was a major issue when the battle support first came out.)

there definitely is, but that stuff is probably less fun to work on than the mods themselves lol. For example the high data transfer setting in ctgp
