Look... CLEARLY, you are the Genius that knows about replacing sampler hard drives, with USB, or SD card readers or whatever....
I need to know what to get for an Akai S6000 that will load the sampler OS, and house, warehouse, archive all the samples that I want. What do I have to do?
Will just be using one sampler, and I want to run USB to my computer for file swapping. Thank you!! You rock man!
They work well with old skool iomega jazz drives ( if you can get a good condition one ) for something more modern you could use scsi2sd
I wish all this yummy kit was around 20 years ago when I was still using hardware samplers. Certainly would have made life much easier. As much as I love my hardware and most of my studio has gone back to hardware, I can't deny the simplicity of using software samplers, while keeping everything else hardware.
And this is why todays music is spiralling down a trainspotting toilet. Good music isn't created clicking a mouse, hence why tracks from 40+ yrs ago continue to outlast anything of today. Computers don't create music, talented musicians do!

Biz.. what you want is an scsi switch box to switch between different machines. go to the samplerzone website and check them out. they sell some nice scsi2sd stuff for samplers.
@Brian Johnson So that item doesnt need any power supply? Power is through scsi?
Nice on Bizzy! I just got one of these up and running in my S3000XL. Bit of a headache to figure out how to set up and format sd cards etc. but I got there in the end. Copied some massive sample libraries onto SD cards from CD images using Translator. I didn't know about the thing where you could connect to 2 samplers so mine doesn't have an extra scsi port added to it unfortunately. Now I'm wondering if I could connect to it from another sampler through the Akai's big 25-pin external scsi port on the back of the sampler? I suppose I just need to have a go and see if it works. I'm doubtful though. Otherwise, is there some kind of scsi splitter/switcher that would help? It would be good because I could save stuff between SD cards without having to keep switching the card all the time.
Oh yeah, and it seems like once i fill an SD card up to the 4th virtual scsi device it gets corrupted. the virtual drive disappears in Translator but I can reformat the virtual device on the sampler without losing the data on the other SCSI IDs. But I cant drag any more files into that SD card after that. But I can save to those IDs on the sampler. ...weird.
It worked! I can just connect to the SCSI2SD in one Akai S3000XL from another Akai using the 25-pin SCSI external port. wicked! As long as the scsi ID are all different it works.

@@TheBizzyBScience I've been having it for a week now and no complaints. Can use two samplers at the same time but I need to boot Roland first and then AKAI otherwise it doesn't work.
Wish I owned a hardware sampler. Just can't justify the cost at this time. I bought Renoise and have gotten used to the modern functionality. Not so sure if stepping back will be a good thing. Still great video.

I still can’t get my fargin gotek working on the s950 but the scsi2sd is EASY no fiddling as long as u have the right cables. My ASR10 and Emax both see it.

I want to see akai.
Put mine in an old zip drive case its shared between s1000 s3000xl and pc with adaptec card. Been a bit of trial n error but now works with recycle, wavelab and mesa. Can access all samples and dump them to and fro. Also can send drum hits to S950 via rs232 cable using software then save to hxc emulator. Im not bothered about self isolation ! 😷
S1000 can read S3000 disc with OS 4.7
Wavelab 5 & Recycle 1.7 on XP only though ! S1000 can read 3000 but they both only write to thier own partition on the scsci2sd drive. Give me a shout if I can help 😉
I've installed an scsi2sd from amigakit into my e6400 ultra and it's never worked correctly
@@TheBizzyBScience I've got scsi2sd version 5.1. An sd card shows up as 7 separate drives on the sampler, but it cannot 'see' any folders within these drives
@@TheBizzyBScience Yes , and it can see a .e4b now on the SD card, but won't load it. Says incompatible file type
This was an akai format sample cd that I have converted with chickensys so m,aybe I've done that part wrong
It doesn't even load .wav files though
