    If you use Scsi2sd V6.0 and a 3d printed cradle, you can replace the floppy emulator. The main advantage is that you can swap sd cards (not micro sd cards) but also that you can connect to your pc using micro usb cable and the ex5 formated card appears in windows.

      Thanks for commenting. That's good to know! Maybe, I'll update some time … Connecting it to a PC would be so useful...

    • @antigen4
      @antigen4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmm - does this mean we can bypass the SCSI interface card and connect it to the floppy connectors directly (bypassing the floppy drive)?

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. The EX5's floppy controller will only allow for 1.44MB floppies, so loading larger files would be impossible (also, SCSI protocol is an entirely different thing).

    • @antigen4
      @antigen4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes of course it's entirely different - i wasn't sure what David was implying with his comment though so i was trying to ask for clarification. I suspect the primary 'blockage' to file size via floppy interface is the media itself however - not some built in protocol (?) - i guess it would likely be limited by 8 bit addressing though

      Can you copy S1V and S1M files direct from the PC onto the EX5 formatted card? Are they readable?

  • @lundsweden
    @lundsweden ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm lucky that my EX5 came with a SCSI port, that way all I need is a SCSI to SD. The internal floppy (or replacement) might be a bit slower, but I still think its ok too.

    Can I connect HD SCSI-1 Hard Disk Drive (DB25)+ Adapter (DB25/50) or SCSI-2 Hard Drive -> Roland XV5080?

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, SCSI should be backwards compatible. If you've got an adapter (and maybe a terminator) everything should work fine.

    HIYA I have an ASR-10, loaded... with the SCSI option installed. is there something like this (in your video) for the ASR-10?
    basically, I have ten tons of aging floppies with complex custom samples that need archiving/consolidating for use. HELP! I'm good with this stuff but everything I find is a long-winded chat or vague option...

      Hi, thanks for watching! Short answer: If your device has SCSI, then this board will work for you. I'd strongly advise you to buy the V6 Version, though, because you can use the USB port to read the SD Card on your PC: amigakit.amiga.store/product_info.php?products_id=1314

    Hy Floyd, first of all congratulations on your videos - i own two of these Blue Beasts and already upgraded both to floppy emulators based on your tutorial. Now i'm thinking of upgrading the one that has a SCSI board but i have a couple of questions - what SCSI cable did you use for this install? And did you buy it from the same vendor as the SD Card Reader? Thanks in advance.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching!
      If you already have the SCSI interface built into the EX5, there should be a "loose end" of a SCSI cable inside your machine.
      If there isn't, buy one of these: amzn.to/36z78w9
      Best regards!

    Thanks a lot again Alex for your upload on this - I've got the SCSI board in my rack version, so I might give that a go as you say it does give a timing benefit for the larger samples in the libraries I have. Maybe not a 'must have' but for Eu70 worth considering..... I love my EX5R with every single option fitted!! Still rate this as one of the best synths from Yam, if not their best overall 'workstation' synth product. Sheer class! :)) I very much look forward to your next EX5 related uploads, as well as any other synth / electronic music making tips! Danke!

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to other EX5 users, it is possible if you format the SD card on the EX5 first (which I didn't do, and now I'm too lazy to transfer all the files on there somewhere else ;-) ) There's a Facebook group for the EX5, and in the file section one group member uploaded a windows app which can read and write the contents of the SD card. Also, have a look at david de los reyes comment - if you buy the newest version of this interface, you can access the ex5's drive in windows.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's faster than the floppy drive and if you're planning on working with samples (or patches which contain samples larger than 1.44MB), getting the SCSI interface is the way to go.

    I just completed adding SCSI2SD, RAM, sample flash RAM and latest firmware EPROMS to my EX5 I purchased from Reverb last month. ASIB1 and firmware from Reverb, flash RAM from Sector101, 64MB RAM from Amazon and SCSI2SD from China. I used a 16GB micro SD in the SCSI2SD and cut up a plastic lid from a Rubbermaid tote to create a top/bottom insulated cover for the PCB held in place with nylon stand-offs and Kapton, then double-sided 3M tape in the compartment. Your video inspired me to put all the options in this EX5, thank you. And, the blue beast is awesome! Those Yamaha pianos, E1 Brass and a few of the factory strings are killer. It’s a keeper and it’s in excellent shape, so hat’s off to the original owner. Thanks!

    Please stop over using the word “vintage”.
    The EX5 is a wonderful synth, but is in no way “vintage”.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, TH-cam washed ashore a lot of old comments that seemingly were lost in their big database today, yours among them.
      Well, "vintage" - according to the dictionary - means "produced in the past, and typical of the period in which it was made" and that's what the EX5 is.
      Of course I know internet culture demands this word only to be used for 50s Telecasters and 70s movies in which people do not wear as many clothes as you'd normally expect.

    • @lundsweden
      @lundsweden ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, it's definitely vintage. Cars over 25 years are classified as vintage, there's no definition for synths but 25 years is a quarter of a century!
