Skipskop is a village in the Western Cape province of South Africa. In 1984 Government claimed the area for missile testing, and relocated the mainly fishermen to townships and Cape Flats. Other fishing people were displaced from sites like Oudekraal and the Clifton beaches, making way for prime, whites-only, seaside residences. This song immortalises the injustice and pain of that move.
