  • The US Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team performs on Saturday at the 2021 Cleveland National Airshow at Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Team pilot "Gator" flew the team's specially painted "Red River Hawg" which wears a striking Southeast Asia (SEA) camouflage scheme in tribute to veterans of the Vietnam War. @@thedishonoredamerican129 because Politicians, people in the Pentagon and military don't make any $$$$ for themselves using older planes. it's all about $$$ and personal profits. How can you justify using a plane that has LESS then 1/2 of the capability of this plane if it isn't about the $$$? Thats BS about costly too much to maintain them. Look how much it is already costing to maintain the F-35 and it's a new plane and it is getting MORE and MORE expensive to maintain year after year. Plus all the cost over-runs. It's a money pit and it can't deliver anywhere near the payload older jets can.

    I was stationed at Aviano when a group of A-10s deployed there from England. The weather was great during their deployment, and they reached their mission goal early.
    They were given permission to put on a demo for their maintenance people. The day before they packed up the pilots spent about 30 minutes 'attacking' the flightline, flying between the HASs & lower than the control tower. It was glorious.

    The SEA camouflage looks great on this plane. That makes sense, because although it was primarily designed to kill Soviet tanks in WW3 Europe, the A-10 would have been perfect for close air support and rescue escort during the Viet Nam War. The Douglas A-1 Skyraider filled those roles admirably, but any A-1 pilot would have given anything to have the A-10s range, armor, loiter time, great low speed handling, massive weapons load capability, and of course the BRRRRRRTTT of the mighty avenger Gatling cannon.

      @kicksnarehats11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to take away from your experience, but that must've been a different aircraft. The Warthog's 30 mm shell casings are not ejected but rather cycled back into the system to retain at least some of the weight balance that is lost by firing off the projectiles in order to maintain the center of gravity. I remember an A-10 pilot mentioning that this also happens for safety reasons so the casings don't get sucked into the huge engine intakes by accident.

    sea camo?? more like jungle camo...
    can someone explain how this is sea camo?? cuz I feel sea camo should either a dark blue-ish camo or a dark gray they used for harriers.

    Any idea why the designer went for a forest green color rather than a darker green to match the color scheme of Vietnam-era planes? Nonetheless it's a beautiful plane! Would love to see one in person one day.
