I prefer the version were Heracles asks Atlas to get the apples, it shows Heracles is actually quite intelligent and he knows what his strengths are and were to use them.
@@ajpoopfucker And for the fact, Hercules was mortal at the time, he would have had a human limit at some point; despite his Olympian abilities for being a son of Zeus.
I remember learning of Ladon from the origin story concerning Dragons Blood resin - Ladon, having been slain protecting the apples, was rewarded by the gods: his blood seeped into the earth and from it grew the Dracaena Draco, trees (technically a large tall growing bush) with pail bark, leaves similar to that of aloe, and sap red as dragon blood.
So Hercules and Jason existed at the same time. For some reason I always imagined the various heroes walked the Earth at different times. Never sharing the spotlight.
I think I remember him joining the Argonauts at some point, but I could be wrong. Basically, the Disney movie Hercules has many inaccuracies. The relevant one here being Herc's incredulous _"The Argo?"_
At some point the Argonauts had encounters or members of several greek heroes including Hercules. Is was basically the first superhero group in literature.
So Heracles is both a great example of multiple heroes existing at the same time and the exception. Cause his many greats grandpa is Perseus. And he’s got two other Zeus demigods as ancestors as well, and Poseidon for some reason? So with Zeus in here Heracles family tree is more a family wreath. Many heroes in Greek myth claim heritage from other previous heroes, as did many kings and generals in Ancient Greece. I believe Io (from the story of Zeus and Hera and the very suspicious cow) was another ancestor of Zeus.
Cool, I always liked Ladon. I prefer the version where Atlas is the one taking the golden apples, since Ladon survives and continues to live as the guardian of said apples and one of the few children of Typhon and Echinda that managed to survive. Can the Japanese Oni be next?
I would absolutely love for you to present more on this figure of Greek mythology. This video was rather quick & all too cursory on the subject, yet I admire your overall concept!. Consider that this 100 headed serpent might be significantly synonymous to another garden dwelling serpent of infamy & celebrity! Ya get me? Rock on friend!
I believe in some versions, he is the child of Typhon and Echidna There aren’t any specific dragons in Egyptian myths to my knowledge, but I think the closest is Apep
If Ladon did live, it is interesting that the last two monsters he had in his labors, Cerberus and Ladon, were the only ones he didn't kill. You could probably come up with something from those details.
My first thought is "Eh, another one?" Of course, with Ladon he probably wouldn't have even known he was there, he just had Atlas do the sneaky work for him, and with Cerberus, well, would _you_ want to piss off Hades? Didn't Heracles see the two idiots that tried to kidnap Persephone, which would've clued him into the fact that you don't want to do that if nothing else did.
Im not sure if this is right but I remember hearing about Eris goddess of discord got the golden Apple by bypassing Ladon to cause strife and the start of the Trojan war.
You’ve done a lot of video about Greek myths, as well as some on other cultures’ myths. I’ve yet to see any videos about the Persian myths, however, and I’d really like to see some information on those.
I like the fact that he doesn’t just tell the stories of the characters, but also how they ended up in the sky as astrological figures! Now if I look up into the sky on a starry night I can tell my bf not just what constellation we are looking at, but also the whole story behind it.
Interesting connection to the Norse Nidhogg and the Norns (Three Sisters of Fate), though Nidhogg, the dragon who chews the roots of Yggrasil, the Worls Tree. is represented more negatively and separate from the Sisters, who guard one of the three wells from which the tree draws water.

First off, thanks for the great videos! Second, may I request a video on Achlys? Side note: I play world of warcraft and all my characters are named after goddesses! - my rogue (stealth class w/ poisons) is named Achlys :)
I always thought Ladon was a dragon protecting the golden fleece, "serpent" does often refer to a dragon, and dragons protect their gold so that would make sense.
This was representative of a river system that supplied 100 heads of water, so when heracles killed Ladon it was technically an act of eco terrorism and made the Sahara as we know it today with no river systems any longer. Medusa was the same, these were figurative not literal
Have you compared this to the symbolism in the Bible? It seems to mix the idea of an angel keeping Adam and Eve from eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge and the snake that tempted them to do so.
Wait since Ladon was one of the offspring of Thypon and Acidna( I probably spell it wrong😓) and Thypon is a God does that make Ladin a God? I always kind a child or decadence of a God is a God tell me I'm wrong plz
RaginDXDemon And why are there other dragons that almost look like or have similar features of the hydra and Ladon all around the world in different cultures...very strange
I actually have difficulty of understanding who Ladon is due to various stories about it. Too bad the most reliable of these stories were orally retold than written.

Same
I dont like that version because if atlas dies or decides to betray Heracles, he would have to hold the earth until the end of time
Heracles also proved himself intelligent when he was asked to clean the Augean stables

The hydra less popular brother 😂. I know his pain.
the skyrim background music was a nice touch.
The artwork is top notch. Your explanations are excellent. I think you deserve all the likes.

There are a surprisingly large amount of dragons in middle eastern mythology but none that I know of in Egyptian mythology.

You should do a video on Jason and the Argonauts
A Titan with the Greek version of a Giant push lawnmower would take care of the hundred heads quite nicely, leveling it's karma, while leaving the smell of freshly mown grass behind.
I prefer the story, in which Herakles doesn't kill him. Because Herakles uses his brain in that one. And after that he betrayes Atlas, so... yaaaaaay!
Can you do a video about the 2 chornos (cronus and chronos) ?
