      Hell ya brother 🤘🏼 Save them by hitting save effects preset and you should be set. Usually I'll add my custom preset to a new audio clip of mine and then make sure the compressor needle is pumping up about 3 to 5 dB.

    I have watched several voice audio editing in FCP videos today and yours was the best! I was amazed at other videos that only provided numeric values verbally (no titles) and were produced using audio of the speaker that had some bad frequencies and room reverberation. Your advice is great, on-point, well-conveyed and your audio mix sounds terrific.

    Quick additional tip: in addition to pressing forward slash to start a clip from the beginning, if you do this first View > Playback > Loop Playback (or press Command-L) then when you press forward slash it'll actually loop the clip indefinintely or audio selection indefinitely so that you can just concentrate on the audio editing.

What should I do if after zeroing out my computer and setting the threshold and ratio, the compressor still isn't hitting in that 3-8db range? I find myself having to crank the threshold above 30 to get it there.

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  ปีที่แล้ว

    Really great video. Any reason why you don't use the limiter built into the conpressor?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much guys! That means a lot coming from you. I suppose that would probably be most efficient. I just got the sense after reading the Apple website about the limiter, that its features are a little more fine tuned, for lack of a better term, than the compressor's limiter (however I could be wrong). I did a little research on the appropriate way to set the FCP's limiter, and now it's just become a part of my workflow (especially because I've saved presets for different scenarios, so I seldom pull it up anyways).

      @@oliverw.1187 That's a tough one. If you're doing a lot of client work, hands down Artlist. Once you download that song you can use it whenever you'd like and as far as I know, you're free to use it for client work. With MusicBed, you can only use the song when you have a subscription. So if you download a song and months go by after your subscription is done and you try and use it, you'll get a copyright on your video. You can't use MusicBed for client work as well (I think you'd have to pay quite a bit of money to get a subscription to use songs for client work). Both have great music though.

    Hey Dylan, good video. I have a quick question. At timestamp 4:11 where exactly did you get those bullet point graphic/plugin from? Where can I those or the pack from? Thanks.

    Great video, thank you. I have a problem that I cant get around, when doing a multi cam and adding the effects to each audio track, whenever the camera switches there is a noticeable pop in the audio. No idea why, tried to even reinstall FCPX, nothing. Anyone know a fix for this?

    Hey Dylan, I used this approach to create an audio effect and it perfectly worked for a few weeks but as soon as I updated my Final Cut Pro today, it wrecked the entire effect. Did you experience the same problem? What do you recommend to fix it?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep yep! I experienced the same issue, Sam. I think it's because they updated some of the interfaces of those effects so they're just not linking. Unfortunately, I'd recommend just making the presets again from scratch. I know that sucks, but that's a better option than waiting for them to release an update to fix this bug.

    Thanks so much! Question: If I'm editing a long video and have lots of cuts which result in several individual clips in the storyline, do you suggest combining into a single clip before doing the audio edits you pointed out? Or would it be better to apply all the effects BEFORE cutting into clips and editing the track?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely do it before cutting the clips. What I do is add everything and then throw the clip or clips into their own compound clip. That way I can enter the compound clip to make any adjustments to the original clip at any point in the edit.

    • @ThePianoSenseiWay
      @ThePianoSenseiWay 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dylanjohndickerson Thanks! But if you apply all the effects before, then why the need to make a compound clip?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ThePianoSenseiWay Because what happens when you cut up that clip a bunch and then realize that you actually need to change an audio setting or video effect? You'd have to change all of those cut clips. Whereas with the compound clip, you can just double click one of the cut clips and see the original clip in there.

    • @ThePianoSenseiWay
      @ThePianoSenseiWay 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dylanjohndickerson Wait, so you're saying add the audio effects, then cut into clips, then make a compound clip? If so, what do you mean "click one of the cut clips and see the original clip" if it's just one long compound clip?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ThePianoSenseiWay No, effects, then compound clip, then cut.

    This. Was. AWESOME! I've been meaning to brush up on my audio game and just happened to come across this thinking, "Meh, whatever, quick review I guess..." Nope! Totally taught me some new tricks (namely EQ Sweeping)!
    ONLY suggestion for future vids would be to have a brief explanation of attack/release on the various filters. Fortunately I'm familiar with them, but I think it's important enough to mention to people coming in fresh to the topic.
    Thanks for the vid!

      Thank you Scott! That’s awesome to hear! Also thanks for the feedback 🙏🏼 I was going to go more in depth, but people have a hard enough time sticking around for 8 minutes as it is. I figured I’d just lay out the steps, and if I get enough feedback for more, then I’ll do a more in depth video on the compressor/limiter.
      Thanks a ton for the feedback!
