    In today’s video I’m sharing with you a painting I’ve been working on in private initially.
    I want to share with you one of the most challenging yet rewarding stages of the process - adding the shadows.
    I’ve been asked about this a lot in the past, and I want to focus a bit on that, the mixing and the application of paint.
    I also made sure to include the names of the paints this time haha 😂

    I still find it hard to do backlit foreground with sunset in background. When the sun sets over the ocean and I am standing back looking at it through trees, I don't want the trees to be black but I need to capture the essence of sunset and dusk.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! Try going for a higher key for everything, so that you don’t have to go super dark on the trees (:
      Often things are lighter than they seem!

    What an insightful video..!! When you started with shadows, the front wall looked so dark that I was worried. Knowing what value a color will have after drying and how thick your paint should be, these are the hardest part of learning watercolor and this video was very helpful for the same.

    Real time is great because it conveys the frenetic mindset of a painter while considering the wide array of factors involved in creating a believable expressionistic image. You did a great job communicating what you were trying to accomplish the whole way through.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha that's a great way of putting it! So much goes through my mind as I paint, it's frenetic indeed (and sometimes also FRANTIC) 😁🎨
      Will do more for sure! Tomorrow's vid will also be real time

      It's a common challenge, I'm happy this helps in a way 😊🙏🏼
      There's a lot that goes into it - shapes, values, colors, temperature. It takes some practice to get all to work together (and I also often don't manage to get ALL, but I will get 1 or 2 working really well) 😁🎨

    Interesting to note the blue used for the sky is completely different. If you use photoshop, try popping the colour picker on a sky - it should be much closer to cyan than blue. Nice painting all-the-same.

    14:47 you mention getting enough alone time and balancing the creative process being a challenge. I'm curious, what do you mean exactly?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I basically mean - time in which I create but don't share (:
      No filming, documenting, narrating or worrying about posting the painting.
      I hope that makes sense 😊

    • @artbylisaharrington
      @artbylisaharrington 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LironYan That does make sense! I walk the balance of those 2 things as well. As artists, we are inclined to share, but getting into deep work requires being fully engaged in the process. :D
