Hi there, Liron here! In today's vid we'll cover 2 aspects of watercolor that'll VASTLY improve your results!
    In reverse order:
2 - Don't try to match EVERY color you see.
Instead, think of the ABSTRACT composition on paper, had you removed all the drawing lines, and looked at the temperatures and colors of the first wash.
This moves you away from the rigidity of trying to match the colors, and enables you to paint more freely.
1 - CONNECTIONS - If multiple shapes have a similar value - treat them as one! Even if the colors are different.

    Time-Stamps:
    00:00 - The 2 Aspects
    01:24 - Shadow Mapping
02:21 - First Wash - Abstract Overall Pattern
    07:27 - Mid-Values - "One" Connected Shape
    19:45 - Details - Darks & HIGHLIGHTS
    30:40 - Let's YELLOW it up!
    31:58 - End Result & Conclusion 😊
I hope you find this useful 😊🙏🏼

I learn a lot from videos like this. Thanks so much for this lesson. I'm still trying to paint like this. I love this style of painting, it has a lot of natural flow that goes well with watercolors. But when I go to paint like this myself, I get lost in small details too soon into the process. It's a habit I'm trying to break. I want to see it as overall shapes and values but I fixate on the small details as I work and I lose the big picture.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Haha yes I get it, and it used to happen to me a lot.
You've probably seen this one, but it's one of the best examples I filmed on how to avoid that:
      th-cam.com/video/e5Fziivynms/w-d-xo.html
Always have the "next biggest shape" in mind (:
Completely disregard the details inside it (including highlights), and focus on the shape itself.
Later you can start introducing wet-in-wet and lifting to improve this process.
And one last not - don't obsess on the big shape's edges! The more important factor is how the shape is read as a whole. The edges play a minor part in that.
Keep up the great work! 😊

Liron: This is so helpful!! Who knew how many little subtleties and layers go into the step-by-step process of painting? I think your commentary while you are working [do this; don't worry about that right now; we'll come back to this area...], it is all really helpful to see. I have the problem of not trusting the layering process.

From now on I'll always add my thick watercolor/gouache from the cap. I was always pouring a little bit on my mixing palette, but once I am done it always dries down and it's intended purpose becomes redundant. Thanks for that tip. I'm a newbie to painting and trying to understand your process. It seems a mix of glazing and a la prima. A glazed underpainting of cool and warm excluding highlights. Then a la prima by establishing mid tone and lighter darks first matching whether cool or warm according to the underpainting. Then details of lightest light and darkest darks. Using muted primaries in the initial washes then small detailing with saturated primaries. Am I on the right track?

    • @LironYan
