I'm glad to have something more grounded like the classic medieval FF coming out. And since they hired the DMC guy for the combat, I'm interested. If you go action go all the way.
I haven't liked any Final Fantasies passed X-1. I'm sick of Square abandoning turn based battles in current day games. Time settings are pointless. Yeah they confirmed there won't be a party on this installment. My interest in this entry is completely dead at this point. I hate to say it but this will be the first mainline entry that I will completely skip.
@@wakairyu2811 There IS going to be a party, but you won't have much control over them to focus more on Clive's abilities to make better use of the combat system's potential, the other characters will be mostly controlled by AI but it will be better than FFVIIR's AI, basically, while this is a single player experience, they want you to feel like if you are playing with your friends.
I'm liking the gritty medievil setting. I also like how the main character looks more manly, unlike the Nomura style twinks we get on most FFs. The main character looks a little twinkish in his young version but hopefully we play as the adult version for most of the game.
What im concerned about is the combat. They havent made a good game since X. I like how they are taking inspiration from an actually based game like DMC though. I hope if they are going with this action focus I want it to be simple to play but impossible to master. To this day Im still finding interesting combos and weapon interactions in DMC5 even though mechanically it wasnt as complex as 4.
This series has been in need of a paradigm shift (so to speak) for at least two decades. Having stripped any pretense of role-playing in every subsequent entry after 7 (excluding 9 and 12 Zodiac), what this game needs above all else is proper RPG mechanics with actual character stat management. Whether it's turn-based or action-based is irrelevant to me. Final Fantasy, at its core, was inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.
While I think the game could be well made, I think I might just be bored of the staple Final fantasy elements. Seeing the summons take more of an active role doesn't excite me, instead it fills me with dread at the thought of hearing recycled phrases and icons also returning: magicite, moogles, crystals ect. It just all seems really tired, like a kid playing with the same blocks over and over again rather than using new blocks. Maybe i'm less of a "Final fantasy fan" more of an RPG fan who is tired of waiting for a franchise I used to love to to something ACTUALLY different.

@myerg I'm sure some look at it that way, and I think that might be an issue. Rather than be known as the franchise of RPGs that stood apart and above much of the competition for its writing, score, iconic characters and solid gameplay, it's now just that jrpg series with chocobos. Rather than a series with some fun mascots and tropes, it now IS those mascots and tropes.
