Pre-Alpha, just after the steam release, in like July 2016? Maybe late June. We just had nades, rifles, and the venerable foxhole. (Edit: I forgot the campsites, man those were laggy.)
0.42 was my introduction and its wild to see what I thought was epic and grandiose updates has been such a small amount of overall development since its inception. I love this game!
Wow, this really puts things in perspective. Can’t believe this much development progress has been made…while hundreds to thousands of players were able to play it at the same time. To think most games aren’t seen by players until literally Day 1. I remember when assets were being added every other month. The game’s problems are so complex and interwoven now, but it’s still cool we get to have those moments among it all. Bear, your consistent coverage of this game is one the best any game has had from a single community member. Foxhole and is community is incredibly lucky to have you.
I was there from the very beginning, even before mining had been introduced and it was just shooting, that means before 0.0.8 I don't recall the exact build. Foxhole was absolutely amazing in the earlier days of the game, but unfortunately I have not find it enjoyable anymore these past years. Unfortunately and I can't remember the exact game version, I think my love for the game started to turn around at 0.0.28, when HE grenades were added. Grenades were nerfed against buildings and you had to take HE grenades with you to destroy buildings. It made destroying foxholes and such much more difficult. It slowed the game down, but mostly in a bad way, your biggest enemy was not the enemy soldier, but the AI installation. I played a while longer, but at some point when logicistics became more complicated I just dropped off. I've tried to get back into it a few more times, but the current gameplay where you are fighting over the same piece of ground for 8 hours straight without gaining an inch, it's just not enjoyable anymore. The old 4-hour wars were not ideal either. But at least after a sessions I always had a feeling of accomplishment, I just do not feel that at all anymore. The game is more popular than it was back then though, so a lot of people do enjoy the game the way it is today. Just sad that it's not the game for me anymore.
This was beautiful, ISAB. Thank you for making this video about the update history. It made me nostalgic for my first Foxhole battle in the skirmish of Fisherman's Row in 2017.
What an absolute trip to see the journey as a reminder from someone who joined on the battle tank .2 update. Thank you for always covering Foxhole Bear and congrats to the devs on all the hard work that brought them to 1.0. See you all in 1.0 on the 28th. o7
Брат, я помню, я помню, сервера пустые, я помню маленькую карту, я помню игру 6 лет назад. Из гадкого утёнка, на наших глазах вырос прекрасный лебедь !!! Спасибо за хорошие видео.
Been here since Nov 5, 2017. I remember hopping on my ASUS gaming laptop after school and having so much fun doing logistics and shooting some bad guys. Funnily enough, a warden got me into the game and I played with him at first. But then he stopped playing soon after, and ever since, I’ve stuck with colonials. I just personally like the militarized aesthetic of the colonials. And now that they have their own doctrines and arsenals, those coincidentally appeal to my play style as well. As stressful and tiring as Foxhole can get, I still love the game. I hope the Inferno update brings about a large influx of new players who can enjoy the game too.
Man, it's so interesting to see when different things got added. Especially when seeing different features come and go, and man, when the old Town Halls got removed, it's difficult to comprehend how long that asset had been in the game, and this video really puts that in perspective. Keep up the great content.
I joined WC77 or 79 I thought the game changed alot from winter army to entrenched and now 1.0. I can't beleive how much this game has changed who knows what we will have in another 6 years.
I feel that in recent years, this game seems to have changed from "a role-playing multiplayer interactive game with a strong social atmosphere" to "a characteristic large-scale online multiplayer online game".
@@ThuderDragon2408 Now the social in this game is now closer to the group social of games like EVE or Warcraft, rather than simple communication between individual players
14:42 I actually really miss tunnel networks. I can agree that they had their shortcomings. But the reason I liked them was that it prevented the need to spam bases EVERYWHERE (keep in mind, I started playing after this point so I don’t know what it was like previously. I’m more so comparing what I remember the game being like to how it is now). I personally wish there was a redone system (maybe a bunker?) of tunnel networks that would extend AI range, but maybe only up to a certain limit per base. This would reduce the amount of bases scattered around the map and would make each of them more valuable. I know this would cause it’s own set of issues though so I can see why it likely will never be added back. But I do think something similar to reduce bunker base spam would be nice
I got the game 3 days after gunboats we’re officially added into the game (update 0.6). I’ve been playing since November 5, 2017. It’s crazy to see how this game has evolved
And after all these years you still have the same mic quality, not that it’s bad or anything, and I say I joined after Entrenched came out. Oh wait a second the Cologne tank battle inspired intro, I actually met the gunner of the American tank of that battle he was a nice guy and he and the author of a book that was written about him signed my copy.
Probably ignored comment but hammer wreckage when you find it. That gives significant amounts of bmats and great chance at rmats. If you're simply travelling and see wreckage, fill up your truck/inventory and go to a refinery. It's free materials. Nobody does it, and I have personally done wreckage runs and made multiple tanks from it.
The wind system for artillery was a must. Artillery is still extremely powerful, but it was seriously too easy to just spit out a distance and azimuth and blast a target with little effort. Now, at least, it takes some amount of coordination.
If you had to put a date on it, at what point would you say the game became Foxhole as we know it today? As a player who joined in mid-2022, I look at the 2016 clips and that's *definitely* not Foxhole. Somewhere around 2018, maybe the War Machine update with the continuous global hex map, I started to say "OK now this is Foxhole." But then again around 2020, with buildable trenches and bunkers, OK now *this* is the Foxhole I know. Vets, what do you think?
First time I've ever heard of the dead harvest wonder why they haven't done that recently? Would be cool if they spawned in nuked town once the war concludes with those mechs looks awsome.
Thanks for posting this. Really jogged my memory of foxhole for the past 6 years. I thought i joined 2017 but i joined 2016 0.0.10/0.011. Never played with you then since GMT+8 do be like that but holy fuck its been a fast ride. Seen you like three times over these years. Got attracted by a bluedrake’s foxhole coverage and have been hooked for 3 years since 2016. Then, started losing interest and have been getting on and off until i stopped. Now I’m back for 1.0 cant wait Edit: oh shit Blizmore 9:20. That mf made me a warden main

I just joined with the Inferno update and sided with the Wardens. Very excited to participate in conflicts to come! For Callahan!

RPG does not mean rocket proppelled grenade btw. its Rutschnoi Protiwotankowy Granatomjot which means handheld anti tank weapon.
Didn't like the US then make an RPG and just change the acronym to Rocket Propelled Grenade?
RPG means Rocket propelled Grenade in english. its a large category of weapons including not Russian ones.
