With this particular clip, you've taken on one of the best vocalists of all time and, no matter how much 'passion' you put into your performance here, you could never recreate Karen, with her very soul shining through every word she sings. The thing that always amazed me about Karen, was that her voice was so rich and deep, its like, how can a tone like that come out of that body? Aside from that, I think it's so cool that you have other artists who love her so much that they respectfully pay tribute to her work, not by mere imitation, but by sincerely and admiration.
Karen's voice can never be truly duplicated. That being said, I am amazed at how close your voice sounds as Karen performing live. Studio vocals are different from live. The memories of Karen are something I hold special to me. It's nice to hear those songs again performed by someone with a beautiful voice.
You do a great service to the public who adored Karen and seeing you perform, even dressing and looking like her, brings back so many wonderful memories of their music. Keep up the good work. PS> you don't need to defend yourself against the losers here who criticize you.

Oh dear Toni, I will definitely listen to more of your recordings, it must have hurt so much when you went through all the negative comments, I didn’t really look at them, the last thing I thought was your hair or outfit was bad, as I thought Karen dressed like that. I have tried so many times to sing as good as you! But cannot keep up the good work and don’t worry about the negative just focus on the positive. I have been through eating disorders and lost my kidney functions and was on dialysis but in 2019 had a kidney transplant she didn’t make it, so I feel almost protective of her memory you bring her to life. When I think of the turmoil, sadness and depression Karen went through I feel it in her singing, it’s just something unique to her. Your voice is just as beautiful 🤩
Yes I think it’s a lower tone chord that Karen Carpenter had that really made her voice spectacular and very distinctive also making it sound very personable. This lovely lady has got a very nice voice, there is quite a specific difference between Karen Carpenter’s voice and Toni’s voice.
Great voice and band, as good as she is it also highlights just how amazing and unique Karen's voice was, it's impossible to match, she did have top studio production though, No auto tune needed or available, 50 years later and Carpenters music is still loved, I'm not too sure if we will be still marvelling at the music of Lizzo and Cardi B in 50 years time, I will take Close to You over W.A.P any day.

What is is about Karen Carpenter's voice that made it eternal? As a listener, you fell into it and wanted to stay there forever. This singer--Toni Lee--has the right notes, but falls woefully short. After 1 second, you could immediately see it was a cover. After 3 or 4 seconds you could hear that it was nothing like Karen's masterful voice. Karen, we miss you.
This woman gets really, really, really close to Karen's voice, but she's missing just that extra level of richness and depth that Karen was able to achieve.
Yeh Im never going to sound exact. To be honest this is my natural voice in that range, to be anywhere near compared to the great lady herself is an honour. We have a different overall tone n warmth. Im ‘brighter’ but also a lot of what people compare to are their cleverly recorded music. This is a Live recording. Ok mixed for the video. If you listen to Karen Live and compare to a studio recording again you will here a huge difference especially in the lower warmth. She still sounds fantastic tho. Most of the so called Live TV & videos are them miming to studio recordings they are not actually live. So many people think it is? 🤷♀️. BBC TV Live concert for example. Odd one is live but a lot are mimed on that. You only have to hear on the bvs & chorus parts. You couldnt produce that sound live outside a studio back then. You cant compare my live shows with a studio recording like for like with her voice. Its so different? Hope that helps.

Just like Elvis tribute artists, I have yet to hear one with THAT sound, but they are very good. We will never have an exact Karen Carpenter duplicate, but Toni Lee is very very good and has nearly duplicated Karen's voice. I remember when Karen Carpenter was alive, she had to endure constant criticism and bullying. She often did not even sound like herself because of her health issues. I'm glad there are singers bringing attention back to Karen Carpenter, she deserves it. And don't forget her brother, Richard, the true genius behind the Carpenters sound.

I don't think that Toni Lee sounds like Karen Carpenter 100% or even 80% but, Toni Lee doesn't need to. She is a great singer in her own right. Sure, she has a similar sound to Karen C, and that's okay. Who wouldn't want to listen to Toni Lee? Her voice is so melodious and pleasant, one could listen to her for hours upon hours. The same goes for Tori Holub. I wish they would get together and do a concert. I would pay$$$. This kind of sound will never die.
I was lucky enough to hear Karen and Richard Carpenter in 1972 live at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Their playing and performance was impeccable. No singer can be replaced 100% (and isn't that amazing and individualistic if you think about it) but Toni Lee is pretty great. So lovely to see Karen embraced around the world but world talents from anywhere are essentially borderless in appreciating. Talent wins out.
Also i forgot to mention a group from years ago that did contemporary christian music called farrell and farrell. I don't know if i spelled the name correctly,but the woman singing sounded just about identical to karens voice, even closer than toni.
I'm a pro musician with a traveling band. I met one lady that could do it but she would not tour because of her family. God she had Karen down. Karen #1 female vocalist of allllll time
I’m a huge fan or Tori and have met her and Sally at the 55th, in April. Both are charming wonderful women with a deep love of Kacie. Toni sounds wonderful and I can feel her deep love, also. Harriet and Chloe, also. It’s a love fest and not truly a competition. Some are closer than others and that’s fine. Some maybe are more theatrical than others, great. It’s all good and the bottom line is be nice and praise them for keeping Karen’s spirit alive for us. Though an OG Carpenters fan, I never got to see Karen and Richard in concert. I got to be near Richard and in the group shot with him. (My shyness prevented me from shaking his hand etc.) I’m good with what I did have. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Joe
I appreciate the fact that people are keeping Karen's memories alive Toni does sound a lot like Karen, but the lower registry is just not their, with that said still a great interpretation of Karen's voice,buts let's face the facts that no one can replace Karen, she was so popular that people to this day love her and Richard's music.

@@tonileesings-123 Hello, Toni Lee. I was thinking about Karen Carpenter this week and wondering how close was she to always being a drummer and never getting behind the mic to sing. Also, I did not listen to the entire video, but did listen to some of it and, for some of that, you were definitely very, very close to the Karen Carpenter voice. (Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest voices, if not the greatest, that I have ever heard.) May God richly bless you. -Patrick

I don't think that Toni Lee sounds like Karen Carpenter 100% or even 80% but, Toni Lee doesn't need to. She is a great singer in her own right. Sure, she has a similar sound to Karen C, and that's okay. Who wouldn't want to listen to Toni Lee? Her voice is so melodious and pleasant, one could listen to her for hours upon hours. The same goes for Tori Holub. I wish they would get together and do a concert. I would pay$$$. This kind of sound will never die.
I was lucky enough to hear Karen and Richard Carpenter in 1972 live at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Their playing and performance was impeccable. No singer can be replaced 100% (and isn't that amazing and individualistic if you think about it) but Toni Lee is pretty great. So lovely to see Karen embraced around the world but world talents from anywhere are essentially borderless in appreciating. Talent wins out.
Also i forgot to mention a group from years ago that did contemporary christian music called farrell and farrell. I don't know if i spelled the name correctly,but the woman singing sounded just about identical to karens voice, even closer than toni.
I'm a pro musician with a traveling band. I met one lady that could do it but she would not tour because of her family. God she had Karen down. Karen #1 female vocalist of allllll time
I’m a huge fan or Tori and have met her and Sally at the 55th, in April. Both are charming wonderful women with a deep love of Kacie. Toni sounds wonderful and I can feel her deep love, also. Harriet and Chloe, also. It’s a love fest and not truly a competition. Some are closer than others and that’s fine. Some maybe are more theatrical than others, great. It’s all good and the bottom line is be nice and praise them for keeping Karen’s spirit alive for us. Though an OG Carpenters fan, I never got to see Karen and Richard in concert. I got to be near Richard and in the group shot with him. (My shyness prevented me from shaking his hand etc.) I’m good with what I did have. A once in a lifetime opportunity.

I appreciate the fact that people are keeping Karen's memories alive Toni does sound a lot like Karen, but the lower registry is just not their, with that said still a great interpretation of Karen's voice,buts let's face the facts that no one can replace Karen, she was so popular that people to this day love her and Richard's music.

Very close, but Karen’s voice will never be matched! Hers, like Elvis those voices were one of a kind. She did a great job!

Toni first time seeing/ listening to you. Wow. I'm very impressed. I've heard a few KC tributes before but you're pretty much the best I've heard. ( wasnt real thrilled with your background singers..sorry). I'm a stickler for coming as close to the original band as possible so you know what I'm getting at. Just my opinion. I don't know if you play the States but if you do I'll be in attendance if you come to the Midwest.
Toni did a great job. Harriet is the perfect Karen but she’s now doing her own stuff. Toni should be proud of her work!

IM as big a fan of Karen as anyone on the planet, and i think you are amazing in your own right ,and i appreciate you doing her music and keeping it alive. Maybe you could correspond with Richard and get his take. Outside of him , no one elses opinion really matters as he is the only real source i am a professional musician in the United States and have been involved with music over 40 years, so i know a thing or too about the industry dont listen to anyone thats not being positive. just continue what you are doing

The intro says "Toni Lee is Karen Carpenter." I get that it's a business and you want to promote yourself in the best light you can. I think you do a great job at singing Karen's songs. It's just that Tori Holub is as remarkably close to Karen Carpenter that it's almost scary.
Karen had a fuller, richer voice. No one can match it.
