    .......................
    Day 1
    Turkish cuisine is known all over the world so we figured what better way to introduce ourselves to this amazing country than through the food! We booked a food tour which made dozens of stops on both the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. We tried pide, kebabs, lahmacun, ayran, doner kebabs, baklava, stuffed mussels, Turkish coffee and MORE!
    Day 2
    On our second day in Istanbul we got out and explored more of the city. We kicked things off with a HUGE traditional Turkish breakfast and then visited Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye mosque and many more MUST SEE sights in Istanbul!

    Great video, great music, great editing. I want to talk about smthg else. The dolphins. I ve lived in İstanbul for 32 years and never seen a dolphin that close to the land, especially a very sea trafficked area. You ve come here, smiling, appriciating and even saying that İstanbul is a city to be lived. That means how.you are overly enjoying yourselves. And your good vibes, karma, Light was appriciated by the universe or existance and that gifted you with those sights of dolphines in front on Old İstanbul. Maybe the universe works this way. It was seriously enlighting for me. Enligting, enlightining. Thanks

    Love your videos...We are looking forward to our 3-day Jan. Winter trip to Istanbul from Switzerland - how much CASH do you need if we eat like you on the "streets" :-P Assuming they don't take credit cards for street food really - then we need to multiply by 5'ish (we are 2 adults and 3 teens).

    • @WaypointofView
      @WaypointofView  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much! That sounds like it is going to be a great trip! Some places take cards but it will be good to have some cash! We just use the ATMs to get cash out when we need it. Depending on the type of bank card you have, international ATM fees can really add up. The Zarat bank ATMs don’t charge a transaction fee on their end but your bank might still charge for the transaction. As far as how much cash you need... it is hard to say really… It all depends on what area of the city you are in and what you order… I tend to keep around $100usd worth of TL in my wallet and refill as I get low because it is hard to carry much more than that in my wallet.. ($100usd is almost 3,000TL) it is nice to have cash for food, souvenirs, and refilling the transit card.

      @@WaypointofView Thanks for the reply! Will prob. only do 100CHF (we are from Switzerland, so no inflation : 1CHF=32.6TL today!) Knowing my French husband, he prob. prefers "fine" dining instead of many street foods 🙂 Can't wait to take my 3 daughters there too! For 3 full days, we'll prob. stay close to Sultanahmet instead.

  • @atillakaragazi838

    Please do not define pide as Turkish pizza. I am sure that it is not your intention, but when you define pide this way, it implies that pide is a copy of pizza, or pizza predates pide. I hope you can realize the phonetic similarities among the words pita, pide, and pizza. It is the rendering of the same word with minor (regional) differences. All three refers to the same thing: flat bread with or without toppings. Their ancestors originated from the Middle East, and both pide and pita predates pizza.
    Similarly, many people define manti as Turkish ravioli. This is equally wrong as defining pide as Turkish pizza.
    Wish you all the best and a great time in Turkey.

    • @andreaskotsos
      @andreaskotsos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right.😉

    • @Jamirio
      @Jamirio ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true, Tomatoes and Peppers were introduced from the New World to the Old World that just make Pizza and Lahmacun quite new lahmacun is a late ottoman dish that could be initially etli ekmek
      So, the first to taste the closest pizza were probably Amerindians...

    • @atillakaragazi838
      @atillakaragazi838 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jamirio I thik you didn't read what I wrote above carefully. First, I never commented about tomatoes and peppers let alone where they originated from. I am quite aware that like corn, beans, and many other fruits and vegetables tomatoes and peppers came from Americas to Europe/Africa/Asia. The main point above is "ancestors or primitive forms of pide/pizza/pita originated from the Middle East, and both pide and pita predates pizza."
      Second, I said nothing about lahmacun. Etymologically lahmacun (lahm is meat in Arabic, acun is the Turkish rendering of the Arabic word biajin which means dough) is an Arabic word. I am Turkish, and there is no point of denying this. However, lahmacun belongs to a region which includes Northern part of Syria and provinces of Antep, Maras, Urfa, Diyarbakir, Antakya. All that region constituted province of Halep during Ottoman Empire. Also, original lahmacun should be quite different from the lahmacun we eat today, because as you mentioned before there was no tomatoes and peppers back then.
      Third, for many variants of pide you don't need to use tomatoes and peppers, and for pita you only need wheat flour/yeats/water. As for etli ekmek, it is a Turkish dish for sure, but it belongs to Seljuk Empire. Konya was capital of them, and that is why city of Konya is famous for its etli ekmek.

      Definitely understand. In a country where food is so inexpensive, it can be hard to justify the high price for a food tour. However, it is a full day (6-7 hours) with a licensed guide and you learn so much about the food and culture.
