Hey Ya'll, just a heads up there's a convo about death and animals at the end of the video! Just giving you a warning! Thank you for your understanding!
Don’t know if you meant to unpin this, but it turned into a regular comment after you edited! Wanted to give a heads up in case you meant to leave it pinned!
Sucks to be responsible for the death an innocent animal. Really brings the reality home. You know you wouldn't do it deliberately if you had the choice. Accidents happen sadly ;(
I'm from Mexico once the police officer asked me "Qué es eso? Drogas?" Sir those are my driving shoes. Leah is so right, just tell them you don't understand until they get bored.
I’m so sorry y’all have had such a rough stretch lately. But thank you SO much for keeping it real! Those low points of big life experiences make the high points so much better!
Your authenticity is what keeps me coming back. Thank you for sharing the realities you're experiencing, good and bad. You tell amazing stories and seem to stay grounded. Keep rolling, gang!
From the cops, to the weather to that ending...tough series of events for you both. I will say I do appreciate you sharing all that with us, your positivity is something always engaging but probably the biggest reason I look forward to your videos each week is how real you both feel. Here's to better weeks ahead and looking forward to a Mexico recap/overall thoughts video if you decide to make one as well! Also happy birthday Leah!! Hope you had a great one :)
Happy Birthday, Leah! As for the dog, we can only do so much. That you both feel so bad about it is a tribute to how kind-hearted you are. Don't let it drag you down. I'm sure you guys are doing better already. Have fun in the city!
Happy Belated Birthday Leah!!! 🌼💐🏵🍰 One of the things I love the most about your vlogs is how real you keep it... positive with the negative.... please don't change. Stay safe and keep em coming! Greetings from freezing cold Cape Breton Island.
Have been there with the Federales military police in Mexico with the road stops. As a Spanish speaker, it didn’t sound like they were accusing you, but more asking you, if you had drugs and that if you had them, that would be jail. But we might have only seen a bit of the exchange. It’s always kind of scary because it’s country with many stories. My tactic is always to establish rapport with them. Asking how are the roads ahead, or how far for the next town or how beautiful the countryside is. They will always ask the questions, because it’s their job. Good luck on getting back to the north. Take care.
Oh my god, you guys... What a beautifully edited video, thank you. 14 mins in and I can see from the comments there's stuff to come, but just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work and your positive attitudes. Only an occasional visitor, but always take something away every time I watch. all the best.
Lol, it's kind of adorable that despite having a cavernous, empty wedding hall available that Levi & Leah still choose to sit together at the same table to work. 🥰 And I'm not even being sarcastic! 😄
Wow.... Sorry about the dog...that's so sad - although you shouldn't feel responsible, hard as that may be -- if the dog was lying there, it had probably already been hit and had likely already died or been wounded beyond help. I really appreciate the authentic telling and accounts you two are demonstrating and it's invaluable for those of us planning similar journeys. Chalk one up for the Prius, btw --- if you had been travelling in one of those $60 -80K+ vans that are so typical, there's no way you would have left that "road-check" without being light a few hundred, or even a few thousand $$$. Instead you appeared more like back-packers, travelling light and low-budget as opposed to "wealthy foreigners". Another advantage of forsaking some comforts. Hope you can yet enjoy a few comforts on the rest of your trip. Oh, and Happy Birthday Leah!! Cheers!...from North Vancouver
Been following you on your amazing journey. My heart goes out to you and of course the dog. It sucks but accidents happen. Obviously I don’t know you but you certainly seem to have kind hearts and spirits so be kind to yourselves.
As someone who is kind of fascinated by abandoned places, that place you stayed at seemed super intriguing and creepy at the same time! So sorry to hear these things have happened but also thanks for keeping it real. Glad you guys were able to stay safe & happy birthday, Leah!
I had to fast forward thru the police checkpoint it was triggering. I’m really impressed by the grit you both have. Not only to commit thru the journey but sharing the ups and downs with us. Honestly the best vlog in a while. I was left humbled to realize how good life is.❤ it’s really what you make of it!
Glad you enjoyed it and I'm sorry that it was difficult for you. We all have things we think are hard and other things we can be brave with. Thanks for this thoughtful comment. 🥰🙏🏻
Tlacotalpan is such a beautiful town! I’m so glad you visited there! It has a wonderful history and one of the most famous Mexican musicians was born there
Oh man, hoping that Leah's birthday and returning to CDMX will bring good times! Sorry for so many stressful/emotional ocurrances. I did notice that the part that was subtitled "unknown" was the official asking the word "seguro?" meaning, "are you sure?" in relation to being sure that you did not have any drugs in the car. They were probably like, "shoes and dishes, we're done here!" Safe travels!
Is good to be transparent about the bad things that could happen on your trip, especially in Mexico. Since you guys said you where going down there I been with the “Jesus en la Boca” basically I been very worry. Thankfully everything has work for. My country as beautiful as it’s is also can get very dark. My wish if I win the lottery is to have make a homeless animal organization, cause the amount of dogs and cats in my country is just out of control. Sending you love and a save travel back home.
Hi, I’m from Mexico this was basically just a routine check since they saw you guys with a lot of luggage they were just telling you guys that they were going to check the car. The officer just asked if you guys had any sorts of drugs, which is a very common question. Love the vids!
Had you hit a dog in the states you could at least call LE. Maybe make a donation to a local animal rescue in Mexico. It won’t bring back the dog, but it will give you peace of mind knowing that you are doing something to help others. You could also consider volunteering for a short time. ❤
"it's a little small... but it's dry." HAHAHA. Such a fun and interesting moment that only happens when you're travelling. Love virtual travelling with you!
🎉🎉🎉 OMG!! The FUTURE PROOF GUY!!!! No way!!! I was just looking at video about the Mexican Police (because we live in Mexico & I have a travel TH-cam channel as well) and I came across this video - not know it was you!!! Not even knowing you had a 2nd channel to be honest 🤣🤣🤣 Shoot! We missed you when you were in the neighborhood. Look us up next time. We spend winters on Cozumel, and hop around the rest of the year.
Just happened to us today, about an hour north of Isla Aguada! The guy insisted we needed to have Raiden in a kennel in the back seat. Not true, dogs are required to be restrained, in the back seat, which he was. I gladly offered to drive to the Police station in Champotan to pay the fine. Suddenly, it was all ok and we got sent on our way.
I think it's awesome that you work as a teacher while traveling! Sorry about the dog, I know that it's hurtful, but unfortunately you couldn't help it. Blessings as you travel. 😀
I'm from the Philippines and sadly, I'm painfully familiar with corrupt police encounters like that. Also, my heart sank hen you told us about the dog on the highway. 🥺 But you know what? I also super appreciate you guys keeping it 💯
Great watch as always 👊🏿. Unfortunately part of life. And yeah on the cops thing they tend to be looking for something (not speaking from a Mexico context but a general cop context from even a country like mine in Zimbabwe they will sort of pester you till they find something 😂, usually wanting you to give them something (a small bribe at times) if they so much as find anything suspicious). Which is understandable coz they'll be both doing their jobs to crack down on the drug smuggling but they end up using it as a win win situation as well for them lol
Absolutely, honestly having been through it now I feel like I understand how it works and it seems less scary for some reason? Like as long as you're not actually doing anything illegal it's mostly just annoying.
@@LeahandLevi Yep, definitely scary and intimidating each time, with the occasional officer who crosses the line. And sometimes it doesn't end well i hate to say. But for the most part they just try to intimidate people into some soft bribes if they were to find like weed or something on someone.
Also, there is other cool ways pf eating mango. But all require cutting. If you search for how to cut mango on youtube you have several. My fav is the one where the mango ends up in cubes and you juat bite it off the skin
If you guys intend to cross over to the US through the Matamoros/Brownsville border might I suggest the Brownsville flea market during the weekend. There’s a lot of local vendors and a ton to eat!!! Keep up the great content!!
That's a veey traumatizing experience when you hit an animal on the road, especially for animal lovers like me, and presumably, yourselves as well. I am so sorry you had to go through this, as someone from a Latin American country, I know the bullshit the police try to put pn foreigners from wealthy countries to extort money out of them is way too common, it sucks! But I hope this don't tarnish the entire experience, most people are very welcoming towards foreigners! It's just the growing pains of a developing country
They were not accusing you of having drugs, it was a routine checkpoint. They were repeating that they are inspecting cars for drugs and guns smuggling. There are tons of these checkpoints all over Mexico because of the war on drugs.
Keeping it real may be the best way to motivate people. Otherwise when they try and inevitably encounter hard times it may go against all of their expectations which could make it a very bad experience. Being prepared for the hard times is probably better. I also think it makes for better content. After all, looking at people who seem to always have fun would make my life seem very depressing
Ugh. Yeah I was in Cancún in 2018 and my partner and I were walking in a beach outside the tourist zone and police came up to us and were insisting we had done something illegal to the point where the took my partner in their SWAT esque vehicle and stole all of his $ behind a dumpster. We had just arrived to Mexico so we had all our $ on us. Sucked so bad.
I must say this was hard for me. Hitting a dog is an accident, but not checking if it's dead or alive is something I just couldn't do. No excuses. It can lie for days in pain before it dies. I looked at this yesterday and had a bad evening because of it. Still couldn't stop thinking about it. OK there are a lot of animails badly abused and in pain, doesn't matter. You do what you can, when you can.
As frightening as it may have been with the Mexican cops and their fishing expedition, it was in the U.S. where you actually got shook down and fleeced in Montana by that crooked cop and his little entrapment operation.
Question for you? Do you happen to have a front license plate? Some states in MX require you to have a front plate, and if you don’t, that might result in potential issues with local municipal police if you only have one license plate. Police in MX will often remove the front license plate when a parking infraction has been committed.
Yeah we do but we removed it because it's not necessary in some Canadian provinces and as you said, it is one less thing that police could try and confiscate haha
When you drive so much when traveling, you see so much road kill. It sucks this happened, but its not on purpose obviously and not your fault. When my boyfriend and I were traveling in Australia, we had to drive from Perth to the Kimberleys and we hit a kangaroo in the early hours of the morning. We didn't even see it coming because it jumped on our back tire. It was the first kangaroo we saw..it was awful. We were so scared to hit anotner animal..so many crossing the highways all the time.
It is such a coincidence about the dog… last night on my way home it looked like there was a cat in the road. I think it had already been hit and was gone but I’m not 100% certain. I felt really bad about it too. I suppose it could have been a possum but I hit it, not with my wheels but my Prius’ undercarriage. It was dark out and there was no way to see it until the last second. 😞 I’ve only ever hit an animal a couple times in my 20+ years of driving and I always feel terrible. On the note of rain, is it too late to get one of those room-style tents you talked about in your regrets video? I mean you still have 6 months to go. Might be worth it to keep you dry. ❤️
Hey guys! It’s obvious that the dog was already hit since it was already lying in the middle of the road, it’s just unfortunate that you hit for maybe the second or maybe it was the fourth?! Very tragic still, but it wasn’t your fault period. The owners of the dog are actually at fault tbh. Happy Belated Birthday to you Leah ❤ love you guys ❤
I’ve experienced both those things except the animal was a kangaroo. It’s awful but unavoidable. Hope you’re doing better, you’re looking a tad tired. Take care.
Police is corrupted in Mexico but it's not fair that you chose not to show the part where he's asking you for money, also you both said that he kept saying "sesenta" which means "sixty", if he was asking you for money he would have gone way higher than that. In the video he's not accusing you to have drugs , he's asking if you're carrying drugs. For you might be intense but sadly that's usual here. You have shown a very nice part of Mexico and that's appreciated but it's unfair to put things like "corrupt police" just for the clickbait.
They never really accused you of anything they were just asking if you had drugs. And were wanting to inspect the inside of the car. Since you hadn't experienced that while in Mexico of course it might have come out as suspicious behavior.
That’s so sad about the dog … they run wild in Mexico … was it dead or suffering ? It may have already been dead … RIP little one ! (It’s not your fault).
Love your content, I watch every single video. I'm just so confused why it was necessary to post on instagram about running over a dog (with a scenic image of Levi walking?) and then talk about it in this video. I mean...if you had a purpose for sharing it...maybe. But all you did was say "yea, that happened and we kinda had to just ignore it and keep driving". Again, unnecessary, but I will keep watching your stuff, just thought that part was weird.
not to make fun of your situation at all but I once ran into a cop who was convinced me and a friend had weed on us because we both wore tie dye similar to Leah's. Not that it has anything to do with your situation I just found it interesting 😂
With you having the seats pulled out and built in boxes that does look suspect. Also you are in Mexico. You should expect this and not be upset as this is they way it is in Mexico. Maybe spend winter in Florida? Lots of french canandians this time of year and lots of nice beaches.

I’m grateful you’re showing “reality” on the road. I feel it’s healthy to share that side. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty
Sending you guys lots of love, it has to be difficult to handle such a journey and it's ups and down
So glad you guys made it through this section in one piece! Really wondering how it will contrast to some of the issues going on in the southern US
Yeah we're wondering too! These times of stress always stand out but we're hoping for more good times as we go!

❤
Just like anywhere not just Mexico
I’ve experienced both those things except the animal was a kangaroo. It’s awful but unavoidable. Hope you’re doing better, you’re looking a tad tired. Take care.
when they ask you to turn off your camera they're up to no good
you guys are so amazing , cool customers I be so terrified of police (and I speak spanish!)...blessings and wishing you all the best
Well we weren't exactly chill about it but thankfully we didn't have much to hide so it wasn't a big deal!
Why was my comment taken down
Mexico 300,000,000 visit Mexico border year 90,000,000 cars. 5,000,000 truck be careful Mex very big country

Snacks in English 🙆🏻♂️
Hahaha oh man... thanks for the clarification 😂
You have shown a very nice part of Mexico and that's appreciated but it's unfair to put things like "corrupt police" just for the clickbait.
question guys: dont the police get aggressive at seeing the camera recording?
It's kind of a gamble... sometimes they get aggressive but often it's a deterrent because they are being recorded you know?
They never really accused you of anything they were just asking if you had drugs. And were wanting to inspect the inside of the car. Since you hadn't experienced that while in Mexico of course it might have come out as suspicious behavior.
I don’t see anything bad just a regular checkpoint please stop spreading this type of this about Mexico.
Algún Tim Horton? ¿Miel de maple?
Our thought was “is it worse to not mention it at all?” For is it felt like acknowledging it was a better way to go. 🤷🏻♂️
you don't have to answer any questions regarding drugs
not to make fun of your situation at all but I once ran into a cop who was convinced me and a friend had weed on us because we both wore tie dye similar to Leah's.
Not that it has anything to do with your situation I just found it interesting 😂
Haha honestly... it seems like if they just keep saying that you have stuff on you you'll start to believe them 😂
@@LeahandLevi true true I started questioning myself the cop was so determined haha
I guess you almost feel how it is to be black dealing with American police
With you having the seats pulled out and built in boxes that does look suspect. Also you are in Mexico. You should expect this and not be upset as this is they way it is in Mexico. Maybe spend winter in Florida? Lots of french canandians this time of year and lots of nice beaches.
Only I'd Leah didn't wear a bra
Oh my gosh, you ran over a DOG!!! People accidentally run over animals all the time; sure, it's unfortunate, but to say it's bad news.
