Correct, the Shannon bit is just a sop for the Irish as the HF function isn't worth very much these days. Nothing much has changed in regard to the North Atlantic tracks since the earliest post-war days (that's WWII by the way). A minimum time track between Paris and New York is forecast by the Meteorlogical office and the tracks are drawn up based on company preferences for the next 24 hours. Things don't change much....

Shanwick involves communications being handled from Shannon but the control authority is entirely at Prestwick.
