    Apple orchards use a lot of wood chips for their trees. I'm aware of an orchard in eastern Canada, that digests 6 inches of wood chips a year, healthy soils can do amazing things.

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Just like a lawnmower bag, if the air can't escape the grass flies everywhere. I recently bought a garden sieve that would be ideal for your tote top. Just cut a hole and wedge one or more sieves in the top and your problem could be resolved.

    Maybe try a cyclonic dust collector attachment on top of the IBC tote. That way the dust goes into the tote and air is exhausted out the top of the cyclone. Add a quick connect fitting on the hose. Maybe this will help.

    Love your setup,looking better every time I visit your site. A lot slicker than homemade splitter run by a two cylinder JD combine engine,but in its day was #1,since there was nothing else to be had,my dad made it and it worked great,along with two bale elevators end to end to carry the wood away.

    Here in Castalia ,Ohio near Sandusky we just started moving our wood this morning. My neighbor and I have been cutting on Sundays for years. Got several large Oak logs to process with our Excavator Splitter and three regular splitters. Use the machine to break them down to sizes a guy can handle then use the Hor/Vert. splitters to process them down to size.

  • @thefirewooddoctor
    @thefirewooddoctor 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One of my first memories of watching your channel was your definition of a "big log". What you call a big log, 12-15in diameter, is a normal firewood log. Anything under 6in is tiny and almost not worth my time. A big log to me is 20in and bigger, with monster starting around 30in. Then I realized you were talking in relative terms. Big for you is big for the machine you are using to process the bulk of your firewood. I'd love to run 12-14in wood through my splitter and the 12-way wedge all day long. I think we can both agree on one term, that is "perfect firewood log size". Perfect for me is 12-14in diameter. Still easy for me to handle and chuck, cuts fast with the chainsaw regardless of species, and splits nicely in my 12-way wedge for a one-and-done split. Can crank out a serious amount of wood in a short period of time with perfect logs. Take care, Joe. Have a good time at Bunyan. Wish I could be there to thank you in person for all the stories and insights you've shared since I found your channel. I've seen you grow from the Japa 365 and rolling logs by hand, to a tractor with live deck on the 365, to the 405 and a HUGE woodyard. You've come a long way in the 3yrs or so I've been watching your channel. Take care and God bless you with good health and prosperity.

    Here is what I would try, if you could get a six inch flexible hose use that instead of the 4” which will slow the cfm some, I would also put a 22 degree or 90 on the lid of the tote so the air does not get forced straight down in to the tote.

      @@ohiowoodburner And dump you will! It’ll take a little while to get your current system adjusted for your production process, but your refuse is not going to wait! That pile is getting bigger so thinking about it now will help you tackle it on the future. Wood burning folks like composted vegetables and flower beds. Better they pay you to haul that away to keep that refuse pile in check. I wish I had concrete floored bunkers lined with road dividers against which I could push. I’d be tossing and turning some sweet smelling/ value added NPK! It’s in my future as there is a poultry farm nearby to provide N for my dust, peanut shells, and hay blend I plan to make for sale.

    Have you posted a video of you stcking split wood?
    You spend more time doing that than anything.
    Some might say your stacking is the most important thing you do.
    Why not post a video of nothing but you stacking split wood.

      I have a few vids doing that. The reason is more practical. I stack wood when my wife is at work. Noone to film me!

      Buy good quality ratchet spanners though Joe, cheap ratchet ones can slip and cause injury.
      I use mine a lot and wouldn't be without them👍🇬🇧

      He means wrenches…ratchet end wrenches for doing the 24 mm nuts so you don’t have to keep flipping the open end wrench…the Limey’s call them spanners!
