You beautiful bastard!! I very recently bought the same box to swap in my E36 here in QLD, A Finnish youtuber by the name of pazi88 did this swap to a m52 E39 and it seemed to have turned out great. Though that particular video isn't in english it does have properly translated subtitles though!, My plan was to follow his swap and deal with the differences between the E39 and E36 on the way but this series is going to be a massive help! I plan for mine to be used as a daily driver so I'll just need to figure out what diff ratios will balance out the differences in gearing. Awesome work chief I'll be looking forward to seeing more content from your channel, hope it all goes well!
Thanks dude, glad I could be of assistance! Regarding diff ratios you should be okay with what you currently have in the car (3.15 or 2.98), should be short enough to cruise on the highway but can always swap the diff relatively easy after anyway :)
Of I am correct. Same gearbox hve e46 2.0d 110kw. At least its 6 speed I have done such swap on my e36 with M57 swap. Swap itself is very easy. Im glad I have such car.
Hey there I've done a lot of looking into this gearbox and swap but In no way is the information provided here guaranteed to be correct as its from my own research via forums, videos, diagrams and a photos. Please confirm with your own research but I'm happy to share my understanding to be referenced or in case there is any useful info. But from what I understand there are two different kinds of bellhousings for the gs6-37 boxes, one with the started motor on the top and one with it on the bottom. I believe that the N engines (like the N52) use the housings with the starter on the bottom side and potentially a different bolt layout. But I could definitely be wrong when it comes to the N52 and they may very well have used the gearbox with the starter on the topside. The boxes that have the starter motor on the top side instead of the bottom, are the ones that can be mated upto just about all engines that share the same bellhousing pattern as an m54 so think (M20, M42, M44, M50, M52, S50, S52 ect) Another thing to note is that the gs6 DZ Diesel and BZ Petrol gearboxes have about a 10-15 degree difference in angle despite sharing the same bellhousing pattern. So for example a gs6-37BZ will sit normally when mated to an m52 in an e36 but the gs6-37DZ engine will sit tilted a bit, as shown in this video but that is addressed with a simple custom trans mount. There are unique cases like with the M20 engine in the e30's where the DZ box could be considered the better option as it will line up straight rather than the BZ box, because the M20 engines in the e30 sits on a similar or even identical angle as the m47 and m57 diesel engines the DZ boxes are originally off. Also if you are struggling to find a diesel GS6-37DZ gearbox, check some of the Polish craigslist type websites like "Allegro" there is an abundance of gs6-37dz gearboxes there for next to nothing. Just be prepared to either use google translate to communicate or to pay for a interpreter to organise shipping. Given how cheap these boxes are an interpreter is actually viable. It's how I got my gearbox for under $450AUD including shipping. Just make sure to use search terms like 320d as opposed to gs6-37 and to use paypal should anything go awry 👍
i'm currently swapping one into my e46 m54 drift car I can always let you know after i'm done but based off of my research it should work the same as the 37dz just have the right angle for gas engines.
@@goonlord311 dang 450 Australian is less than 300 usd!! I’m in Kansas City Kansas and the most common manual bmw gearbox in the states is the ZF320. They go for a little over 1000$aud
My friends and in used a 37bz from a (2006 e90 n52 330i)… that’s the the transmission that will bolt right up. Here the link that should help th-cam.com/video/Jo9P74fHWy0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0RPgMVTHCilAzgE_
@@jpbuilds5 hey brother. Got my hands on one actually! Is there an upgraded clutch kit you recommend? One that’s holds good torque fora turbo car. If u could link it id appreciate it :)
@@TruBimmer I just use a clutch max stage 5 kit I think (the 6 puk one) seems to hold up to NA abuse, after about 5 events and a year of use it was fine. On my boosted 46 I run a southbend stage 2 enduro clutch and it’s very nice for the street, held up to 355 wheel for over 4 years now
I was gona do this in my e46 but to get it to start you have to rewrite parts of the ecu to get it to start cuz it thinks something is wrong without the trans. Does the e36 not have this issue?

Crazy work i did a 6 speed swap with a gs6-37bz, i used a manual z3 front driveshaft to extend it and it fit pretty good
Of I am correct. Same gearbox hve e46 2.0d 110kw. At least its 6 speed

M57 in an e36 is wild dude !
great to see someone documenting this swap, and in Aus 🤙
Whats the front tailshaft section off? just an auto e36?
Yeah any auto 36 one will work, or ZF if you have any lying around!
I have several GS6 37DZ (BZ also) available for way cheaper than that. U guys are welcome
Hey can I pm you for some pricing
What Flywheel did you use? Im thinking about a 6 Speed swap on my 328i. But as i know you have to use the heavy diesel flywheel.
Greets from Germany.
Same flywheel from the clutch kit, to suit a m5x engine
So end the end you will have longer gears in total if I am not mistaken, that will slow up your car?
The ratios are shorter, so It’ll have a lower wheel speed but higher wheel torque in each gear which will make it easier to drift 😊
will a gas 37dz from a 128i or a 328i with the n52 work as well? we dont have diesel bmws with manual in usa, we barely have any diesel bmws period!!

Hello sir, I’m building an e36 m3 right now and I want that transmission so bad. I live in the US I believe they don’t have them here
Nice! Can always import from Europe, mines actually from Spain

This disel box apparently works with an e30 m20 engined car and has the correct angle as compared to other 6speeds. do you know anything about this ?
Sorry mate, e30’s aren’t my forté 😢

Hey mate, shouldn’t be an issue if it’s a manual e36/46, the only electronics going to the gearbox is the reverse sensor!
do they not sell the input shaft extension anymore????
Should be updating their website soon !
1500 dollars?? Here in Finland you can get them for 250 euros
You should send one to me! 😁
Do a business, here in Europe they cost 150-300€
320d E46 and a lot of E90 4cyl diesel had those 37dz
Haha gearbox in europe is like.... 150- 200 euros...
