    I gasped when you said it's a solid trans!! I hope they made revisions, because in the E39 M5 and Euro M3, these things are known to crunch syncros in 2-3 allllll the time.
    When I put a 6spd in my E36, I'll be going with the E92 gearbox. Can handle more power than my car will ever make, being used up to the 335i, and although it needs a couple of parts custom made for it to fit, the lower cost of the box itself will more than offset that. Not to mention they're younger

    Great idea for the giveaway! Also good idea for the 6 speed! I just got a cat delete and magnaflow muffler for my E36 M3. When I go on the highway and get out of my car, my ears feels like I just got out of a concert. Think the 6th speed would definitely reduce the drone and improve gas mileage! Can’t wait to see how this upgrade works out!

    Greetings Treats, I wasn't able to find any updates on the 6 speed swap from you, I myself have been considering the same swap, just like you I do alot of hwy driving and always feel like I need another gear...but gave up when I read that the final drive ratio is vertualy the same on the 6 speed, so it's still around 3,500 rpm at 80mph?
    Was that your experience after the swap?
    Thanks you, and thanks for the content you produce.

    "good stout transmission" yep, I just blew one up in my e46 on Tuesday. The bell housing shattered at 140-150 mph. It was on a nearly stock m3. The input shaft snapped, cross member snapped, trans. rubber mounts ripped, rear mounts on the transmission snapped off, pilot bearing ripped in two, center support bearing on the driveshaft ripped, the shift knob in 6th gear moved from back right to back left and violently shook until I came to a stop.

      @@TreatsOnTheStreets Its because, something cracked the bell housing about a month ago and the crack just spread. It as defiantly not from normal wear and tear that cracked the bell housing. btw the 6 speed will be worth it with highway cruising over the 5 speed.

    Awesome idea for a giveaway, I must say. I won't engage with, but I do believe this is a great idea! And much fun.
    Looking forward to this swap - really interested in results.
    Btw for yall guys, very many BMW trasmissions are interchangable, only slight modifications are needed.. as you can see.
    And if you're on the cheaper end, you can do what I did - put e46 330d transmission. Doesn't cost as much, has 6th gear and is decent in general. Also can suffer much more torque hits.

    The down side of the 6sp is the added weight obviously but also it can't be rebuilt like the 5 sp. For track use the 5sp is the only choice to consider. Gears 1-5 are the same with 5th being a 1:1 so you only gain the OD gear.

      This is from an m3 not a 330, and it also came from an SMG that was converted, so the syncros are going to have less wear and tear on them. The computerized shifts are designed to protect the transmission.

    I did the same 6-speed swap into my 325is and here are a couple of things to note. Don't bother using the automatic drive shaft. It's a little short and it makes the slip joint ride at the very tip of the spline shaft. Getting a custom driveshaft isn't prohibitively expensive. You don't want to Mickey Mouse that piece of equipment. Secondly, you can scour the U.K. eBay for the E36 Evo shift linkage. I don't think you are current short shift kit will work. And lastly watch out with aftermarket clutch and flywheel kits. I have a Valeo single Mass flywheel clutch kit and I don't like it at all. The throw is too long, it chatters, and is not smooth. Might be good for burnouts but stinks on a daily driver. I prefer the stock dual-mass. Once it's in you will definitely like it because the gear ratios are pretty much the same as the 5speed 1-5 but then six gear cruises really nice at 80, or 90..... no, I mean the speed limit. Yeah that's what I mean.

      The problems with the gear chatter and shifting is because you kept the unsprung hub clutch. So there's nothing to dampen the impact from gear changes and the pulse of the engine at idle.

    • @andybobandy641
      @andybobandy641 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stuffthatgoesfast2259 Yes. Exactly. The aftermarket clutch I opted for is a single mass clutch that is typical for most cars out there. I figured, "hey I know how to work a clutch, man! I'll save a few bucks. I don't need the heavy expensive complicated dual-mass set up"... As it turns out, I would have been far better off sticking with the factory set up. I really dislike this clutch in this car. Who knew stock was best.
