Technology is a double edged sword. A hammer can be used to bang a nail into a piece of wood or it can be used to kill someone. It all depends on the person holding the hammer and on his/her intentions.
@Hidden 2o Balance is key. Our thinking and actions should be balanced, avoiding extremes. The whole universe/existence strives for balance and we should too.
Thank you, Darlene, for bringing to our attention the pros vs. cons of technologies. Many of us are totally exempt and understanding due to the fact that many were born into a world of the rising of a technological era. Nevertheless, although, on one hand, if technology "could be used responsibly", as opposed to ,"irresponsibly, perhaps, it could be a valuable asset in regards to sustainability. On the other hand, we are carnal minded, unlike birds of prey, human beings, happiness to possess a certain need of wants, rather than the wants for needs. Therefore, they'd readily become addicted to the "net". In other words, technology is a modern day drug. People all over the world has become addicted to social media, and not to mention parents are allowing its toddlers to become addicts early on. The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Technology should be approached with a HIPPA oath, sworn to be utilized for the greater good, and causing no harm to self or others
Telepathy exists without machines...it is an ancient and first way of "human" communication. All indigenous populations can attest to this. Modernity has stamped out innate abilities/ gifts and conforms people to focus on what is outside themselves and doubt what is within. Those who do not have the abilities nor understanding simply want to dominate those with innate "supernatural abilities" and continue on with colonialist oppressive / extractive schemes now called "advancement, innovation, the new normal" etc etc. Unfortunately, "modern technologies" are a lazy way of creating what is innately in Nature, and yes what is called human is part of Nature. Destroying Nature is the foundation in many of the technological schemes.
There is no one answer. It depends on how you use it, it's as simple and as complicated as that. It's the same with fire, or knives, or money. It's the same as with words. Each time you reach for technology, you need to think of the reasons and the repercussions.
selling Soylent Green. Yep, I will donate my body to McDonalds when I die, take me to that burger joint in the sky. So many wonderful things are possible, not very likely, but possible, while on the other side those things that are very likely, well not so nice after all.
