He was cool under pressure I think. But he’s still human so he got curious of what that thing was in the distance. But when the droid showed up he wasn’t really scared, because I don’t think that it’s in their training to be scared. There is that one episode with Plo-koon where some clones gets shot out to outer space and they panic. But then there’s those 212th troopers in the geonosian zombie chambers who didn’t flinch either when a group of zombies in a dark hallway confronted them, in fact one of them was about to be dragged up to the ceiling and the other clone didn’t care if he was taken too since he tried to help his fellow clone down
It’s a sort of bitter irony that the Commando Droids were the Droids that Echo faced on his first ever mission, only to be (almost) killed by one years later at the Citadel.
But... Echo isn't dead

They weren't designed for military use. They were designed for stealth missions and undercover work. That's why we never saw them that much on the battlefield. That, and they were really expensive.
They were extremely expensive to manufacture. A commando droid costed roughly 22 times more to manufacture than a regular battle droid. They were only used for vital stealth missions to prevent expensive casualties.

I think the Commando’s really show how inconsistent the power level of the droids can be. Sometimes they are terrifyingly effective and sometimes they are about as useful as battle droids. But they also show just how much the shows animation quality improved as time went on.
It's obvious that when they're not as good is when they face people with plot armour, like Captain Rex who single handedly takes a whole squad out. Apparently it's hard to accept that clones lose some battle too, just like those two ARF troopers who should've 100% been taken out.

@@gmailquinn well, they can take out about 2-5 meat druids, each, while a regular b1 can only take out about 0.000000001 meat druids. A worthy investment, and a clone costs, like, 3 times as much to make, arm, armor, and sustain.
He was able to convince the separatists to stick with the b1’s because they are cheaper and so expendable that you can make millions. The closest droid that is more durable were the b2 units.
Either way palpatine still kept the separatist council happy because they wanted to have a massive army and the b1’s were perfect for the job.

I always thought it was cool how that Squad of commando droids recognized that they could disguise themselves as clones. Showing that they have a higher intelligence too, along with mobility and resiliance.

@@punctuationman334 What do you mean? The droid army massacres clones and dominates encounters on a consistent basis. They just don’t officially win _most_ battles because:
A. Main characters are usually involved.
B. The separatists aren’t even supposed to win the war in the first place.
C. This is pretty typical for Star Wars.
You may as well complain that the Empire only has a couple relatively minor onscreen victories in the original trilogy while the alliance fucking annihilates them. “Well they destroyed our super weapons and crippled our navy, but hey, at least we got rid of one of their many remote bases and froze that one smuggler!”
@@purpleemerald5299 Well that is my main problem with star wars. The bad guys are just too incompetent. I guess that is true with most movies and shows, but it would be refreshing to see the bad guys win sometimes.
@@9.5.9.5 I mean, in the old lore the CIA and TF were winning by landslides across numerous battlefronts.
This was mostly thanks to them dominating in astral warfare against the Republic, as well as the Republic rarely giving the clones reinforcements from planetary garrisons, and that a padawan Jedi outranked the highest rank of Clone Commander. Not that there were nearly any Jedi Masters, much less knights who were decent generals either. The whole point was that the Republic Senate started to doubt the use of Jedi as they led the clones to ceaseless defeats and their victories often cost way too much financially to continue supporting.

To be fair they are FAR ABOVE the common battle Droids we’ve usually seen on the battlefield. They’re pretty much the equivalent of ARCs.
that droid, after being disarmed, singlehandedly got a major tactical victory there by hitting echo and actually changing the course of the war for a while......and he fought off arc troopers and 2 jedi including anakin doing it.
Joseph Simon that was mercy. They were being sure he was dead, instead of laying on the ground bleeding out. Not like they could take his pulse, and even if they saw he stopped breathing, he could still be alive.

The BX Commando Droid series was used to protect high members of the Separatist Alliance. They were used to infiltrate and could use their vibroswords to block Jedi Lightsabers. Rarely, one of them (mostly captains) could be seen with _double bladed vibroswords_ but they were mostly scarce. They were also used as a special unit in The Citadel with specialized magnetized armor that would prove ineffective against Jedi force pushes, pulls, and slams. However powerful Jedi Masters could still manage to push them. The BX Commando Droids costed 10,755 Credits where the B1 Battle Droid costed 1,800 Credits (if you refer to the Roleplaying Game Books by George Lucas). They were rarely used and only (as mentioned earlier) in stealth or infiltration operatives. The counter to these droids were the Commando Clones, who were a very elite and special unit that got their own line of books, comics, lore, toys, games, and videos/mini movies. The Commando Droid is still today one of my personal favorite troopers since my favorite faction was the Separatist Alliance. The CIS had cheaper droids where human troopers required: Growing, sleep, food, water, medical care, training, and armor. Not to mention if a human got his arm shot off in battle he would scream and focus on his arm where as a droid would continue to fight, and if killed, could be transported into a different body for later battles.
This was my Ted-Talk on why intergalactic artificial intelligence is a great opportunity for war means and for means of ending all human life.
Also another reason the Separatist Alliance is my favorite faction is because they are one of the good side factions. Along with the Rebellion and Resistance. while i hated season 1 of clone wars so bad i didn't see more than 1 episode of season 2, commando droids stuck me so that when i had to make a former CIS droid for a ffg tabletop game i opted for a commando droid.

Good thing the separatists didn’t have the money to mass produce these fuckers like the b1. That would have been devastating considering a bx is arguably much more deadly than your average clone. If Rex and Cody had trouble,that’s saying something lol
Imagine if every normal battle droid was a commando droid with the same quality as the ones from the episode rookies, the republic would really lose and have to rely on the Jedi as not many clones would take them out
I agree really they shouldn’t have bothered with battle droids that much these were far superior, I get using the battle droids as cannon fodder but they were used all the time, destroyers, super battle droids, commando droids and others would’ve been a better choice to make more of those

I think for ship boarding, and guarding outposts or other important areas should be the jobs of B2 super battle droids and commando droids, but large offensives that were mostly suicidal should be the job of tanks and b1 droids since they were expendable. The fact that they don’t use them often, also adds to the effectiveness of commandos. That is why they should mix in some commandos with some b1s and b2s when guarding areas and boarding ships. The constant switch in tactics for each unit would scramble every unit including commanding units. For jedi battles, it would be ideal to have commando droids to play sniper rolls, while a swarm of random droids play as main attack units. These are the best ways i could come up with if they were to use more commandos more often.
Anyone else notice the wonky animation with Cody and the Commando Druid at 5:44. How he somewhat pauses during the tackle.

They're some of the best units to see, as they actually pose a threat to any opponent they encounter, even though they may not win 100% of the time.

The commando droids are impressive, but sometimes I think they sometimes skim on quality when manufacturing them. Some of them do take a good while to go down, but other times they go down way too easy.
The ones on the rishi moon and the citadel were some of the best ones. The former for realizing they could disguise as clones and the latter for the sheer effort it took to beat them and the fact one of them took down echo

I like how Domino squad trained against commando droids but the ones they actually faced in the field were far more cunning and deadly
the entire rookies episode doesnt make sense continuity wise, like how does the republic already have enough commando droids to train with if they're "new" and how do arc troopers already have phase 1.5 armor in the very first year of the war

As cool as the BX-series Commando Droids were, the Separatists didn't like to use them all that much. One was obviously the cost, but they were also better suited for special operations and missions that needed to be handled with discretion. They were the closest thing the Separatists had to a scalpel. Plus, B1 droids could fulfill a variety of non-combat roles, in addition to being cheaper and easier to mass produce than just a few Commando Droids. It's like the Clone Commandos, they weren't designed for front line combat, but for infiltration and high value missions; which makes it all the more odd that Grievous would use them on the frontline in battle against the Nightsisters.
To be fair, Duku's life was at stake, so why wouldn't he use his 'best" droids in a very important battle
