The stove has cooked 100s of meals and melted a ton of lead for casting round balls for my muzzleloaders. I also have a THERMOS Model 8326. I'm not a collector, just an old man that like quality equipment. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is fascinating! I bought a duel fuel lantern and the check valve is stuck in the closed position, the tank smells of old fuel. I'm going to fill it with carburettor cleaner and cross my fingers. Failing that, I'm now armed with the knowledge to be able to repair my lantern. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and producing this excellent series. 🇬🇧
Thank you for this well produced and thoroughly explained content! I recently won a 1964 228f in an auction which had really old fuel in the fount. The check valve was completely clogged but was fixed by a few day-long soaks in lacquer thinner. After that, the air-fuel tube was clogged (metering rod stuck) so it would not light. I could not get the tip cleaner assembly off, but smacking it with a screwdriver while opening and shutting the valve fixed it and now it's working perfectly! The old trick of smacking a carburetor with a stuck valve also works in this instance. Your teardown and rebuild videos along with your website have been immensely helpful and I hope there's some way I can financially support your endeavor. If there is, please let me know! I'll happily donate or buy from you for all future Coleman needs. I also bought a mid 70's 413G stove which thankfully worked on arrival.

One point of respectful feedback I'd like to give you, is that at @5:31 you mention that Coleman started dipping their mantles in yitrum. Your pronunciation is incorrect. The element is called yttrium, pronounced "it-tree-uhm".
Another excellent video and a great series. Great description on mantles too. I recently did a mantle comparison on my 295 with multiple different brands, sizes and styles. I tested Coleman 21 and 20, Perrless 2C-HG, and a few cheap chinese ebay mantles. The Peerless ($2.91 each) is the thorium version and was without question the brightest and had that old-school slightly green glow I remembered from my childhood. The Coleman 20 ($4.58 each) and 21 ($3.44) each) were a nice warm colour but the 21s were not quite as bright as the 20s. Not a huge difference but noticeable. The chinese mantles were definitely interesting to say the least. First off they were inconsistent in the colour and brightness within the same mantle style and style. One (pink top - $0.62 each)) was the same general overall size as a 21 but not as bright and quite yellow. One (green top - $0.63 each) was about the size of an 11 but shrank a LOT after being burned and was only a little larger than a 21. They were an ok brightness but also very yellow. The last ones ($0.39 each) I tried were the same general shape and style as a 51 but MUCH larger. They were way larger than I expected when I ordered them but thought I'd give them a shot. I would compare the burned size to a 99. Acceptable brightness (could easily read by it) and I would assume it was because it was too large. Decent slightly yellow colour but incredibly delicate and brittle. A slight knock of the lantern if I moved it and put it down too hard and the mantle would just drop and disintegrate. Definitely not worth the 39 cents each. The Peerless and chinese mantles were all bought from ebay and prices include shipping. The Coleman 20 & 21s were bought locally and prices include taxes. Of all of them the Peerless were by far my favourite and I find to be the best value and most pleasing colour. The Colemans are very good but definitely on the pricier side of things but I am sure the cost would come down buying online. For the chinese ones the pink tops were actually not bad and if I only had these available I would be quite happy with them. Excellent price too so if you need a LOT of 21 size mantles but have very little money these would be a great option. The other 2 chinese mantles were just not worth the money. MAYBE the green tops ones would be a good fit on a single mantle lantern that uses a 99 lantern mantle but the colour really was unpleasant so i would only use them if I had no other options available. If I had to ONLY choose from one it would be the Peerless. If cost was a major deciding factor then the chinese "pink tops". if $ were no object the Coleman 20 would be my 2nd choice with the 21s being 3rd. And keep in mind this was all done on the same lantern with the same fuel on the same night to make sure the mantles were the only variable.
Hi I found this fascinating. Always liked Coleman appliances and wondered how they worked. About 55 years ago our family had a Canadian friend who owned a camp stove. Not sure if it was a Coleman. I differed in that it had two knobs. One was used for lighting the flame and once the generator got hot you would open the other which set your flame height. The starting valve was then closed. Never saw another stove like it. Maybe some Canadian brand. Thanks for the videos, I watched all three.
Frank, really enjoyed the video,actually learned how it all works , Mr Coleman was a genius ! I have had the stove and 200a since back in the 70,s used the stove lots when camping , vacationing ,etc. A year ago or so , thought i better see if they both work ! Getting a lil concerned about power failures ! Neither still worked , but after lots of cleaning and new gaskets and actually learning about all the parts , i finally got both to work great ! The Generator on the lantern was mostly the problem , gees the hole sure is very small at the end (!) Thanks for the help , good luck ! Jerry Uhte (Indiana )

Hello so I have a powerhouse dual fuel and it gets pressure but with just the valve on top it won’t spray any liquid fuel. I took the valve out with the pick up tube and I can see the shrader valve and it moves with the turn of the knob. The o ring seems to be good but it seems like the fuel isn’t going up the pick up like if it’s missing something but the previous owner said they never opened it. I’ve already cleaned all the debris out of the tank as well.
My only REAL question about these systems was never answered How does the system maintain the pressure to keep delivering fuel from the tank?? It's not from the initial pumping.
@@videodistro my best guess is that it is from the initial pumping. Because of friction and the fuel having to manuever through tight tubes the flow is kind of constant when pumping to higher pressures, so the pressure is like a spring that slowly decompresses

Good to know the old mantles burn brighter. I lucked out a got a couple nos packs in my 1955 220e I got from a neighbor's garage sale.

Frank, is a military 252 type lantern supposed to have a burner screen? I just got a new old stock SMP 252 and it doesn't have a burner screen.

Oh man do I need help with my dual fuel. I have vapor that ignites out the generator but the mixture coming out the burner cap won't light.
Anybody thought about improving it into a 5V power charger?
