From what I'm seeing, it's RNG manipulation. I'm assumeing the game always gives you a 1 blood cost at the start of the round, so he tried to keep his deck nearly entirely free of 1 costs except for the mantis gods
@@dallasjones4062 pretty much ya. its something called 'the fairhand mechanic' there is a slight bit more to it tho. iirc the game draws a squirrel and 2 random cards, then checks if you can play any of those cards on turn one. if not, then it checks to see if your hand has any 1 bloods. if no, the third card is random. if yes, it draws a random 1 blood the funny thing is is it doesnt check for 0 cost cards, just 1 bloods. this is why mantis deck is so good while geck deck kinda isnt. on top of that, if the 2 random cards are 0 cost, then the game doesnt look for 1 bloods cause you already have a card you can play on turn one. same might be for if youre able to play a bone card, but i dont think it takes that into account (prolly pretty ez to just check rq but im lazy lul)
After finally unlocking the Mantis deck and going through a challenge run with it, I finally realized all the things you did: >Intentionally letting the worm die in the fire, and then killing the other worm in the sigil ritual (thus narrowing down the 1 blood cards in your deck to just the mantis god) >picking up only cards with a cost of 2+ blood to keep the deck from drawing other 1 blood or bone costing cards from being drawn at the start of a battle (RNG manipulation) >utilizing the 8 Bears challenge to essentially bypass the 2nd phase of the 3 bosses >Giving Mantis God a flying sigil to cut having to grab fans at each backpack >Using Bleach to kill the sigils on the 8 bears and letting Mantis God get full damage in to skip them (either by fan or flying sigils) And so much more I can't even think of right now. This run opened my third eye for this game, no joke, lol, and now I'm dead set on 100% completing it on my Xbox.
the first thing is called the fair hand mechanic, it requires you draw at least one playable card, and when you start with 1 squirrel only 1 blood cards are available to play the 2+ card cost is to manipulate the fair hand mechanic to only give you the mantis god at the start the bear challenge is necessary for the run though it does help in some cases how did you only understand the last two after you got the mantis god deck if you want to beat skull storm easily, pick the deck with raccoon, dire wolf pup, and coyote. reset until your shop has a cockroach and a beehive, give unkillable to the beehive, only pick up 2+ cost cards, get rid of the raccoon by sacrifice or by campfire and then win

tbh the RNG is pretty average The most luck was the two fire camps at the start and the item grabs. Other than that they were cheesing the games own mechanics. tl;dr the game will always make sure you start with at least one One Blood card during each match- so by making the Mantis' the only one blood card they could just assure that was the only card they were getting.
Man i cant even beat skull storm when im taking my time and thinking xD Ill have to try with mantis god, ive been trying with the dire wolf pup deck so far
Oh no way I figured out a legit strat used by insane speed runners on my own, map resetting. I used it to get good maps and first try the grizzly challenge. Only needed it for the first two tho
Hey, I answered this when you asked in the other video but I'll answer here just in case too :) I believe that due to the randomness and rng mechanics of this game, set seed runs would still yield a different result. For example: card draw and event rng. I hope that answered your question and happy speedrunning.
Royal got the L + Mutineer Crew + Touch Sea + No First Mate + Got Beat by a Landlubber combo right there
On one hand, i’m impressed. On the other hand, i’m a little mad at the RNG.
nah bro, it probably took him months for this rng to come

the ultimate challenge would be this run but without the mantis deck
Worthy Sacrifice deck with a goat and dire wolf wouldn't be impossible as long as you power it to 6 for grizzlies or use the rotator to skip them.
Exxo did it with every starting deck, just not a speedrun

damn, placing the mantis god on the side so you don’t have to watch the teeth go into the bowl is smart

I love how he chose the mantis god deck just to otoh every fight
Exactly the strat that I used for the achievement, just so much faster^^
I started rooting for leshy 😅
Nice speedrun !
You took pelts tho is it your not allowed to use or trade them? I’m confused
The categories on speedrun.com are split from starting the run with pelts and starting the run without pelts.
3:36 How did you attack the traps without losing the Mantis God?
The traps only shut on the cards directly in front of it. The Mantis was placed where there wasn't a trap and hit the traps with Trifurcated Strike
@@MinuteHunterso they work different to Act 1?
@@Aaa-vp6ug I don't know if this is Kaycee's Mod specific

TAS speed run
How so?
Jaysus
Why no pelts?
On the speedrunning website, Kaycee's Mod is split into the different categories and split again for a run with pelts and a run without pelts.
Mantis God is too easy, noob
Not like this wasn’t specifically the best starting deck for a speedrun
Try this run without it. Then send us the vod. We're waitin
