  • Like Ali vs Frazier, the fights between Manny Pacman and Juan Dynamite Marquez helped define an era of boxing. The incredible footwork, skilled defense, incredible offensive counter punching and the indomitable spirit of both warriors made this perhaps the greatest rivalry boxing had ever seen. Let's break down the tactics, tricks, strategies, and mental toughness of both fighters.

    Hard to blame Marquez for not wanting to go back to the wheelhouse for a 5th. The damage he took from those big shots must've took it's toll. Pacquiao was never the same either. Stylistically, he knew he had to change if he wanted to continue to be an elite level boxer.

    The first Pacquiao/Marquez fight is one of my favorite fights of all time. When Manny knocked Juan down 3 times in that first round- my 2nd favorite first round behind Hagler/Hearns- I thought the fight was over. Wasn’t if, but when. But Marquez stuck in there and fought his ass off, just kept coming at him, I was so impressed. Both guys were so great that night the by the end of the 12th, I couldn’t decide on a winner, which is what makes the draw kind of perfect for that match. As much as I hate draws, the first fight outcome is pretty right on.

      @californio1850 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, Pac didn't give him the immediate rematch. He fought Bradley after the third and suffered a disputed loss. So between that "loss" and many people having Marquez winning the third, Pac's status took a hit and he was looking to get back on track with a definitive win over Marquez since their previous 3 meetings had been close. At the time, there was still the belief that Marquez could KO him with more aggression and Roach was telling Pac to channel his younger self. However, in retrospect, telling an aging fighter to fight like his younger more aggressive/reckless self against his toughest rival obviously wasn't the wisest thing.

    Is no one going to mention how juiced up Marquez was for their fourth fight? Talk about taking all the glory out of your game.

      Pac is in no position to claim high ground: prior to the third fight when Roach questioned Marquez bulking up, Marquez responded by calling team Pac's bluff and offering to do blood testing if team Pac agreed, but team Pac was adamantly opposed to blood testing. And team Pac didn't ask for blood testing in the 4th fight either despite being the A side. The ironic part is Roach himself later questioned Pac's trainer Ariza and raised suspicions about the mystery "shakes" he was giving them.
