- CASTLE IN THE SKY
From Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli
Castle in the Sky is a timeless story of courage and friendship, with stunning animation from acclaimed Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki.
This high-flying adventure begins when Pazu, an engineer’s apprentice, spies a young girl, Sheeta, floating down from the sky, held aloft by a glowing pendant. Both Sheeta and Pazu are searching for the legendary floating castle, Laputa, and they vow to travel there together to unravel the mystery of the luminous crystal. But their quest won’t be easy, as soon they are being pursued by greedy air pirates, the military, and secret government agents, who all seek the power Sheeta alone can control.
The English-dubbed cast includes the vocal talents of Anna Paquin, James Van Der Beek, Cloris Leachman, Mark Hamill, Mandy Patinkin, and more!
Such a great movie. Every time I watch it, it feels like I'm in someone's dream.
Before I knew what anime was, this movie came home with my parents from Blockbuster one night. Its beauty, its wonder, its sorrow, its dignity, was unlike anything I had ever seen, and every single time we went to the rental store since I was looking for more movies from Studio Ghibli. Their work is truly timless.
A pitch-perfect movie, and hugely influential with its designs and world-building. Look no further than the last two Zelda games, two of the most acclaimed games of all time!
Yup, I noticed the similarities immediately!
Huge fan of the legend of Zelda, as you can see by my pf😅. Yes, watching this movie for my first time, I couldn't help noticing all the similarities, and as expected for my love to the videogames, I loved the movie!!
Bruh, talking about design and you quote these 2 zelda games, the sheikah tech and the zonai stuff are lazy asf, compared to what Twilight princess did, city in the sky dungeon is literally inspired by the whole concept os castle in the sky, and the Twilight palace is so much more athmospheric
@@antonionatalvenancio6131 lol I mentioned the most recent games because they’re about 100x more relevant to the average person browsing TH-cam than Twilight Princess ✌🏻
I heard the robots inspired the iron golems in Minecraft (supposedly)
One of my personal favorites from Ghibli and master Miyazaki. I never get tired of this film.
I have seen this movie without a doubt at least 50 times. In my opinion, this world would be a much more peaceful place if they listened to the message Miyazaki was portraying. As I’ve become older, and thus wiser, I’ve come to realize Uncle Pom is truly one of the most important characters in the movie, with his warning to respect the Earth, its nature, and the great power it can allow humans to create.
Pom is definitely one of my favorite characters for sure. On that note, Uncle Pom's voice actor, Richard Dysart, is sorely missed. He did an excellent job with the role.
One of my favorite adventure movies of all time.
The only adventure movie I ever liked 😅
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; this movie is fantastic, hands down. I've seen it once subbed, but since then I've stuck with the dubbed version. Yes, the leads are more mature sounding, but they aren't bad at all, and honestly you can't go wrong with Leachman or Hamill; these two steal their scenes big time. The rescore by Hisaishi is a treat as well.
Agree.
I knew the boy sounded familiar!!! Mark sounded like he had so much fun, and I wouldn’t blame him. He did an amazing job!
@@abbycollins Actually Hamill didn't voice Pazu. He played Muska. James van der Beek played the lead character, Pazu, and, as mature as he makes him sound, he actually does a very good job in the role, which made up for the curious casting choice.
One of the best Ghibli dubs. The cast is brilliant. This and the Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, Howls, Whisper of the Heart, and Spirited Away have the best dubs.
For me it's this film, PRINCESS MONONOKE KIKI, TOTORO (either version), and WHISPER OF THE HEART.
Agree. 😀
So nostalgic! One of my favourites since childhood. ❤️🔥
This movie needs a prequel that takes place in Laputa before the fall of their civilization.
I don't think that's a good idea. The film itself relies on the mystery and wonder of a lost past. Plus it would kinda go against the main theme of people learning to let go of their military industrial past and be more connected with nature.
We need a story about Young Dola
How she became a pirate
how she got her ship
met her husband
maybe the movie would include a younger Muska
maybe a young uncle Pom
The story and the sound of the ending Japanese music, it's touching the heart, my favourite Houl Castle moving and Castle in the sky....🤍🙌🏻
I haven't seen this movie in some time. I still have access to it, watching this forced me to watch it sooner rather than later. I know well enough that this is an amazing movie.
This movie has literally everything you’d ever want out of Studio Ghibli. Action, Worldbuilding, Great Cast, Breathtaking Story, Magic, Visuals that transcend animation. How could it have possibly been forgetten?
I love that song “Carrying You” by Azumi Inoue!! ❤❤❤❤
A gorgeous film ☺️ The soundtrack is so magical too!
My favorite ghibli movie
One of my favourite anime masterpieces!!
Can't wait for "The boy and the heron" to come out. Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi. it's going to be an amazing move
Did you like it? I sure did :)
My favoutite movie of all times period, not just animated. It always manages to put a big smile on my face when I watch it ^^
Woah!! They definitely did some restoration on this audio, it’s so clear and crisp! I have an older dvd version and the audio is reflective of the time it was made in of course. But in this trailer it sounds soooo incredibly fresh!
I’m used to watching it on VHS, so seeing this trailer almost took my breath away!
Has to be my favorite Ghibli movie yet
The first ghibli movie i've watched as a kid.
Saw this during Ghibli Fest a few years ago and WOW! Simply phenomenal
Makoto shinkai was struck by this movie.
He said,“I have never noticed the beauty of clouds till seeing this movie.“
Damn that trailer music is 💯.
All of these movies are just so good. Porco Rosso is my personal favorite but this one is a close second!
My favourite ghibli movie!
Dola
Cloris Leachman was very good in this movie.
My first Studio Ghibli film. And I love it. X3
This performance by james van der beak was better than any dawson creek episode
Love how they kept the city's name out of the title screen and video name 😂 Reading "Laputa" years ago when I first discovered anime had me rolling with laughter
An absolute magical film!
Such a beautiful movie, I use to do Neurofeedback therapy and this along with howls moving castle became my favorites movies due to that
I love this movie so much!
I finally watched it & I loved it!!
My favorite Ghibli movie.
Awesome CASTLE IN THE SKY Official English Trailer.
I remember watching this as a kid though i never knew it was a Ghibli movie
One of the top best ones. Or atleast my favorite.
Damn the quality of animation is top notch in 80s
The first studio ghibli movie I watched on vhs when I was a kid.
I wish they'd release this with the superior new mix but with the symphonic and expanded score. The original DVD dub was all over the place in its mixing and reflected a rush job. I mean without the edits.
Iconic ❤🏰☁️
I remember seeing this trailer in theaters this year and loving the aesthetic! I wish I could’ve seen it
EDIT: SAW IT! IT WAS SO GOOD!
Absolutely beautiful, I've been an anime fan for years, and I've only watched the japans version.
James Van Der Beek and Anna Paquin are two voice actors in the film.
And they both do surprisingly good jobs - James, oddly is the better of the two, but Anna, despite a few missed lines in places, still holds her own. I also like the accent she uses for the character. Considering who she is it makes sense for her to have it.
1:16 Carrying You
God I loved this movie ❤
Awesome movie
One of my favorites. :)
Sheeta is my new Pokémon Terapagos.
fantastic masterpiece.
I like them all don't have favorite
Pazu ❤
Even as someone who has viewed this film one time in the Japanese version, I've never once been bothered by anything about the Disney dub. Is the original great? Absolutely. But Disney's dub is by no means inferior. Yes, the leads sound a bit older, but that would only be a major distraction if their performances were subpar. As far as I'm concerned, they aren't. If anything, the 80s dub is the one that's guilty of subpar acting, not Disney's. There are far more people out in real life who love the Disney dub just fine than what the internet implies. The ones who take issue are only a small fraction of the people who watch the films. Keep in mind, too, that Miyazaki isn't offended by the existence of this dub or any of there others. Warriors of the Wind was the only one he objected to, and rightly so. That version cut out 20 minutes of a two hour film. None of Disney's dubs do the same. I'll always maintain both the Japanese and Disney dubs of CASTLE IN THE SKY are enjoyable in their own right. Neither is better or worse than the other.
I'm thankful for this movie because it helped create the plot of the harem romcom the 100 girlfriends who really (X5) love you
I'm surprised to know that Muska was also the voice of Luke Skywalker
He's really good in the role! I'd argue that he steals the show in this movie. Hamill's Luke Skywalker is iconic, but the man is a real master when it comes to voice acting. This is one of his best roles.
BARUS!
Where can I find the whole series please.?!
😅😮😅😅😮well information good show you 😅😅😅
Similar of Liko's pendant from Pokemon Horizons.
Marvel studios movie of captain America the first avenger and avengers infinity war part 1 was streaming on Disney plus. I like marvel studios films.
That reminder me of prime video anime series did it with shinzo full season 1, 2.
What it up with the trailer for films that have already been released on DVD/Blu-Ray? Not that I'm complaining. I love these films.
Very charming though this orchestral music isnt in the movie haha
They’re using voices from the dub, but this music is in the movie.
From the original Japanese version, which had some orchestral pieces but was mostly a synthwave soundtrack.
The American version had a different fully orchestral soundtrack.
@@HydraSpectre11381:16
@@HydraSpectre1138 What he said. Luckily the BD/DVD does have the orchestral score as an option. (I do miss the extra lines though.)
@@Turnajon Yeah. But these pieces are from the Japanese version. It had orchestral pieces but was mostly a synthwave soundtrack.
The US version was all orchestral. The Blu-ray does have the option of watching the English dub with either the orchestral American soundtrack, or the synthwave Japanese soundtrack.
@@Turnajon, i miss them as well. I don't miss the original mixing on the DVD, i have no idea how that passed a quality check.
なんだろう、君を乗せてが全く別の言語にきこえるこの違和感は?
The dub casting on this is slightly too mature. Pazus voice isnt as childlike as it should be imo and I think that's why this movie goes over a lot of people heads
Nah, I doubt that it is true. Pazu and Sheeta aside, everybody else is excellent (and even then those two aren't bad).
😍
شخصيات تشابه مسلسل كونان فتى المستقبل
“Laputa”
Can anyone tell Khrushchev where Jim / Muska is? This is his last chance before the CCIA sign shows up... I am sure he will find this fight to be rather interesting and fair.
I do not know how many famous, rich, powerful politicans hate JIM / Muska...
An anime so good it cost a god to accidentally give a poor Japanese student 100 girlfriends
Looks like the colors aren't changed up, sounds great too! Keep Disney off of this please 🙏
Actually, Disney DID dub the film. But they did a creditable job.
Ironic as Disney did all the de-cuts of these movies, not the other way around.
@@Turnajon , their dubs were fine for the North American market. Ghibli made them ruin them in revision. The new versions that appeared on the revised DVDs are what ended up on the blu rays. If i want to watch the Japan audio i'll watch it with subtitles. The idea of localization as improper as a practice as it seems now was a part and parcel of the industry. Leave it as a time capsule.
@@matthewgaudet4064I noticed that GKids now own all the right to the Studio Ghibli films, so I'm wondering why Disney relinquished their rights.
The world could use more humanist antiwar Ghibli films nowadays
Great movie but the English voice acting does sound slightly cringeworthy in situations
Dub hater here. The casting of the leads by disney was just horrible to me. Van Der Beek's(I briefly knew a different James Vanderbeek if you can belive that) delivery is totally distracting and cringeworthy to my ears. I've never liked Paquin's voice in general. I know some people like the dub. Watch how you like, but from what I can tell, the voices of the leads has always been a complaint regarding the dub.
With that said, GKIDS does good work. The discs I have of theirs have been very nice. I just wish they had picked up the license sooner, as I bought a bunch of the movies just a short while before they announced the licensing deal, and I have no doubt the discs I don't have are superior. I hate double dipping due to getting a product from disney that falls short for no good reason. GKIDS seems to care more. I have to watch this one, subbed, again down the line to fully assess this film. I just rewatched Nausicaa and liked it a lot more the second time around.
One of the best movies ever made and Disney 🤮bought it and hid it in a vault for 20years or more, they didn't want their modern guff compared to it. Then they re-released it with great pomp and ceremony, as if they were something to do with it (ruining the soundtrack in the process). Disney 🤮
Such an amazing movie, with an absolute turd of a dub.
