I visited Zambia from the UK for a month when I was 17 and it was a life changing experience. I'm looking at a chalk painting right now framed on my wall that I bought from a guy on the street in Lusaka. White water rafting the Zambezi was incredible! The locals we interacted with were very warm and friendly. Countries like Kenya and Morocco are probably the most recognised tourist destinations in Africa but exploring Zambia was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
It is definitely a country like no other! I only wish that I vlogged back in 2009 during my first visit to Victoria Falls, South Luangwa National Park, and the cities of Livingstone and Chipata. Definitely an amazing country!
I visited Venezuela in 2008 when it was still relatively normal (but ultra-socialist). It was nothing like it is today. I don't think I'd ever go back, nor do I have any desire to see anything there apart from Angel Falls. Otherwise, Venezuela is as bad as they say. Zambia is worth visiting . You will not find such friendly people like Zambians , any where. Expensive than other places . But a lot to see, Victoria falls, game reserves, open pit mines ............many . I have stayed 45 years in Zambia, I have nothing negative ! I miss Zambia & Zambians !
I visited so often that I ended up getting married in Zambia. The thing is when I am in Zambia it feels like my own country Romania. You should visit Livingstone and other cities too
Very cool! I have been to Livingstone and Chipata, but not on this journey. I was in Zambia ten years prior to this trip, but I didn't vlog back then so I don't have much video. I was mainly focused on photography back then 👍
I would have loved that! Without an audience at the time (this vlog was not yet live), this was more difficult to arrange! Thank you for the kind offer - and I agree that Zambia is one of the safest countries in the world and the people are wonderful! ❤🇿🇲
I lived in Zambia for the first 17 years of my life, great memories of it. I remembered the independence monument. I wish you spoke with some of the locals, Zambians are very friendly.
I wish I did too! I was so focused on getting my train ticket & leaving the city the next morning, I didn't take the time to meet anyone. After releasing this vlog, I have dozens of local contacts now, so I'll definitely visit with those locals the next time that I'm in town!
I can atteat to the fact Zambians are very friendly and happy ppl. I married a beautiful sweet Zambian lady here in America. She has been such a wonderful mother and loving wife. He friends that live here are some of the best ppl ive known. Look forward to our trip and meet my family there.
Sometimes, the best place in a country is not its capital, I know that Zambia is a neighbor of Tanzania, a country known for its breathtaking landscapes and safaris. I am sure that there are a lot of things that the both countries shares together. All my love to Zambia and its people and thanks for sharing your experience.
Agreed! I visited Zambia ten years prior to this vlog, and had a great experience at the beautiful South Luangwa National Park and in Livingstone & Victoria Falls! The country has so much natural beauty. I definitely have enjoyed my travels in Zambia.
Zambia is generaly safe, I have visited Luzaka a couple of times, confortable city, well planned compared to other chaotic African capitals, but very boring, people are quite friendly and chilled.
Interesting fact about the freedom statue, it was modelled after a real person (forgot his name) who ACTUALLY broke the chains he was locked in. The British colonialists arrested him after a riot, and were goading and taunting him to break the chains if he wanted his freedom. He did and now he's a freedom statue
Visited Zambia in 2011. Spent most of the 10 days in Chirundu. First thing I noticed was that everyone smiles. Lusaka was awesome on a Friday night. Lovely people. And a Zambian tot is big. So don't think you can drink. Zambians don't mess around. Loved the place.
Nothing dicey about it. I was a 14 year old girl running through these streets. All over motor club area, jonnies club. Those were the days! I now live in america but I felt safer living in Lusaka then I do in the US
Yes, Lusaka is overwhelmingly safe and secure. There are certain parts where I felt less safe carrying around my expensive video equipment (around people who were clearly drunk or on drugs) but Zambia is an incredibly safe place. And I echo your sentiment - I also feel less safe in the USA than in Zambia! 😂
That was awesome of you. Thanks! When your in the embassy community, your assigned a sponsor. A sponsor is a fellow american embassy family that shows the new family to post around. We take them to get groceries and give them the tour of their new post. Well we were on our way back from showing the new family the school. We took a turn down leopards hill road to head back towards kabulonga. We didnt realize the president was coming down the road. There were people lined up the whole way to town waiting to catch a glimpse of him. Being american, we were instructed by the marines at the embassy never to stop our car for police or citizens. Basically dont pull over. So my mom was being waved to the side of the road to pull over, but because of the protocall for Americans my mom kept going. They finally blockaides the road with their bodies and she had to pull over. It ended with the new american family in the car, my brothers and sister of age 8 and below, and myself being surrounded with 5 M16s and my mother a pistol to her head over the glass. Needless to say, I'd say a gathering is the president coming. Definitely pull over
@@DrifterDave You are right as they were just being themselves by joking around. Im originally Zambian and in Zambia and African in general, addressing someone as white (muzungu) or black is not considered offensive as Africans are brought up to be comfortable in their own skin tone and surely this only is considered offensive here in the western world where one learns to know what colour skin they are due to prejudice and discrimination surrounding us.
Love the commentary , though I do wish you'd seen and shown more of the museums , art galleries , lodges and resorts we have in Lusaka , there are so many ... Looking forward to your next vlog of your time here ❤️
That's good advice for next time! I was just in the area for a very short time to arrange my train ticket, and then had to leave in a hurry to catch the train. I was very jet-lagged, too, so I didn't feel like exploring much because I was so over tired. But, I will plan to return to Lusaka in the future and find a local guide to show me around!
*I love the vibe of the city, as a part ethiopian I’ve only been to Ethiopia 2 times. I live in the west. I’d love to visit more African countries in the future, definitely Zambia one day.* 😍👌🏾
I don’t doubt that for a minute, and I agree that it is one of the safest, if not the safest country in Africa. I would recommend a visit to Zambia to every traveller 👍
The next time you come, try visit Katete District of the eastern province and Watch Kulamba Ceremony it the best ceremony in the whole country that gets the attention of the whole country. its every year August.
Your seeing your country through Rose colored glasses, but that doesn't take away the tragedy that is unfolding in your great country. Zambia has been recolonized. Wake up.
Inspired by you and the Great Noraly from Itchboots, i have led down my tools and want to explore the world on 2 wheels and show people the other sides that no one shows them. I am really inspired by what you do and cant wait to reach your level. Planning to open my company sales office in africa and working out which country best in all way....love your work & explaination about zambia....goodluck from oshawa ontario Canada🇨🇦🌹😘😍
I would recommend Zambia to anyone anytime - you’re assured of great return on your investment and it’s safe. A lot of foreign investors are coming to this country and soon it’ll be among the leading economies is Africa.
Also there is so much more to see. Not of the inner city. Where there is such a diverse group of people. White black Asian Indian. The best indian restaurant I've ever eaten at. Muskraat....I dont know if it's still there. But that was my place! And raphsodys.
I would love to return to Lusaka after COVID dies down and give the city the time it deserves! I agree with you, I didn't get to see very much in the time I had!
4.5 million in the metro area, I believe 👍 I sourced my information from a Google search (which returns 1.7 million), but this is probably reflective of only the city proper, and not surrounding area.
It can't be 4.5 million , it would have been gazetted as one of the Africa's most populous cities , but I took the chance of googling , and I find the population is 2.7 million , which is a lot but not close to 4.5
Great people, very friendly. Not sketchy at all, they were just curious. You noticed them staring because they were just trying to figure you out, the more comfortable you become, the less you’ll feel that way.
That's totally fair. I had a bad experience being mugged on the streets of Durban, South Africa about 9 years prior, so I was definitely on edge, but I became comfortable fairly quickly afterwards. This was the first day of a month-long trip across East Africa. I experienced absolutely no safety problems in all of Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, or Djibouti (apart from corrupt police).
What do you mean about the language? My wife is born and raised Zambian, english is the official language. She speaks Bimba and a few others as well but primarily english is taught in schools
I only meant that almost no one understood me when I spoke to them in English. Perhaps I was talking too fast, my Western Canadian accent, or just happened to talk only to those with lower English ability - but I had bad luck with my limited communications with locals in Lusaka.
@@DrifterDave You are right about the accent. Most of the time it is hard to understand and my siblings have the same problem when talking to B. Also thr second guy on the bus said," A real white person from Canada".
Seems like you were here on a public holiday. Only times Lusaka is that quiet lol. Maybe try an Airbnb in one of the neighbourhoods next time for a more "homey" feel to your visit 🙂
That could very well be! And I would 100% use private accommodation, but won't be supporting AirBNB. They burned millions of vloggers by pulling their affiliate program without warning, leaving us advertising their site, not realizing we weren't receiving any referral credit for those ads. Great product, but a horrible company.
I know Zambia isn't part of East Africa, but the overall trip in this series was East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti)....Zambia was just my launching off point for this trip. Sorry for any confusion!
Hi guys your city is more beautiful than ours, I love the way it looks. Nairobi town is well planned I tell you and its bigger than our own town in size, looking forward to see our town on another level.
I was only there for one day en route to the Tazara Railway, and was pretty jetlagged, so I didn't get to see much. This was my second visit to Lusaka, though, and I can say with confidence that you'll find great food, mild weather, thriving culture & tons of mega-malls to satisfy your urban hunger. Make sure to check out the Freedom Statue and the Zambia National Museum while you're in the area.
Im happy u enjoyed yo stay. I cannt say the same thing about my experience transiting through Schippo airport in Netherlands - i was searched twice b4 i checked into the airport hotel. It was inhospitable shameful behaviour becoz i was singled out - the only black passenger
I'm so sorry that this happened to you. Prejudice and discrimination are still alive and well in many parts of the world. What you describe is definitely shameful and unfair behavior 😕
I spend a lot of time in Zambia my family is from there and shame you did not see more. Lusaka is like any city in the world its a mix of good and bad but Zambians are great people and friendly. There is a lot of hidden gems and places to go but you need people to direct you on places to visit and eat great local food. Next time take up some of the TH-camrs from there to show you around you will have a great time and never forget it.
That's good advice! I had to leave Lusaka in a hurry to catch the train to Dar es Salaam, and was quite jet-lagged, so I didn't explore as much as I should have! Next time 😎
Thank you so much! I hope that is true 😎 I'm not looking for fame and fortune, just to share my travels with those who are interested. Thank you for checking out my channel!
That huge growth potential is NOT benefitting Zambians. Wake up, The CCP treats Zambians like dogs, and that is not an overstatement. Black Zambians are being descriminated against in their own country. This narrative is BS. Wake up, Zambia. Wake up.
@@DrifterDave not sure when you passed but that's the supreme Courts ground and if it was mid 2021 then most likely it was the then opposition party there and 2 people got killed there by stray bullets
Interesting your tour around Lusaka. The building you stood under, opposite FINDECO house is where I work. Welcome and hope you enjoyed your time here.
Yes, the only reason it’s included in the “East Africa Vlog” is because it was the launching point for the railway trip to East Africa. 28 of the 30 episodes in the series are actually in East Africa (my focus for this particular trip).
Yes, I know! Sometimes the police approach you and question you if you're a tourist taking photos (even in Canada), but I know there is no law against it in Zambia.
I bet there are some real hidden gems in this neck of the woods. I love visiting locations that are off the beaten track. Sitting in the airport at Dubai waiting for a connecting flight and saw "Lusaka" spring up on the departures board hence how I ended up here. Thanks for the nice video 👍
It’s well worth a visit, and a great launching off point for visiting Victoria Falls, South Luangwa National Park, or the Lower Zambezi. Definitely one of Africa’s most pleasant capitals! Thanks for watching 😎
I had no problems with the taxis in Lusaka. It’s a very safe city, and I doubt you’d have any issues at all. If you want to set the tone with the driver, take a photo of the car and number plate and send them to a friend before you enter the car - a female friend of mine swears by that in cities where Uber is not available. Safe travels 🙏
Yes, I agree that I didn’t see much on my short visit around the city. I felt too jet lagged after the 30-hour flight to explore too hard, and was focused on arranging the rail journey and my days beyond. I plan to return to Lusaka and give the city a closer look in the coming years 👍
Great video, many thanks for posting. I've previously been to Dakar in Senegal and Cape Town in South Africa. Next up is Namibia. Where were you mugged in South Africa? Parts of Johannesburg are highly dangerous.
Namibia is incredible! I was mugged on Point Road in Durban, in broad daylight, right next to a KFC restaurant. There were about 50 onlookers who did nothing. I managed to fight the three young men (about age 21) off as they tried to pin me down to steal my wallet and camera. A few punches and kicks to the face sent them running. One was arrested. Thankfully, they didn't have any weapons and were high out of their minds when they attacked, so it could have been much worse. Crazy experience!
@@DrifterDave That’s insane and so sorry you had that terrible experience 😞 I often hear how dangerous it is so it’s disturbing to hear someone who has first hand experienced it. Glad you made it out in one piece but not an experience you will quickly forget unfortunately 🍃
It was a very harrowing experience! I'm glad I made it out alive. South Africa could be so much more than it is, if they could only get their street crime under control. It's a shame.
@@t.k313 Hmm... I wonder why... Maybe where you are from or what you were doing here caused that ? Not that it's right for anyone to treat you any differently , but I believe there was a reason you got such treatment . Some people do not treat certain nationalities / professions here with much respect , even though it really rare
Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa. As a Canadian, I paid $50 USD for a tourist visa, issued on arrival at Lusaka International Airport. Check the following link for info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Zambia
I didn’t attempt to see much of Lusaka - I was jet lagged and was only there to buy the ticket for the train to Dar. Just a brief visit around the city centre. And I’m in agreement that Lusaka is one of the safest capitals in Africa 👍

It can't be 4.5 million , it would have been gazetted as one of the Africa's most populous cities , but I took the chance of googling , and I find the population is 2.7 million , which is a lot but not close to 4.5
Bro look at the traffic jam. This city can't be more than 2 millions people.
Come to see Dakar traffic jam(3 millions) or Abidjan (5 millions)
There are so many parks and lodges pools are so beautiful 😊
I agree! It is a BEAUTIFUL country! I love AFRICA and Zambia! 🇿🇲😎
how was your train journey to tanzania was it safe and how was the experience thanks
Check out my vlog of the train trip!

My Zambia!!
Amazing country! 🇿🇲
I felt like I got a personal tour guide of Lusaka. Thanks.
Glad to hear that!😎
Just hit me up when you in Zambia
charleslowanidaka04@gmail.com
He didn't even show you anything..
@@DrifterDave my wife wanted to reply. If you have any time you wondered what they said she can help
Good to know! I had no idea my accent was so strong 😂 Thank you for translating!
Thank you!
The iPhone never disappoints 😂. Still good footage
Thank you! I've since upgraded my iPhone, so here's hoping the new footage is a bit better!
Great video! Visiting Zambia for the first time. However, Pick n Pay is Namibian!
Thanks for clarifying - I've seen them mostly in South Africa! I hope your visit to Zambia goes well!
First of all...East Africa bro!!!!
I know Zambia isn't part of East Africa, but the overall trip in this series was East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti)....Zambia was just my launching off point for this trip. Sorry for any confusion!
Clean city Go lusaka
Yes, it is one of Africa's cleanest cities! A lot of beautiful green space too!
Beautiful city much love from Nairobi Kenya
Thank you for watching! 😎
Hi guys your city is more beautiful than ours, I love the way it looks. Nairobi town is well planned I tell you and its bigger than our own town in size, looking forward to see our town on another level.
I hope you get the chance to visit Lusaka!
How’s the food? Weather? Hotels? Culture? Things to do?
I was only there for one day en route to the Tazara Railway, and was pretty jetlagged, so I didn't get to see much. This was my second visit to Lusaka, though, and I can say with confidence that you'll find great food, mild weather, thriving culture & tons of mega-malls to satisfy your urban hunger. Make sure to check out the Freedom Statue and the Zambia National Museum while you're in the area.
Zambian here!new sub
Thanks for subbing! 😎
Wanna live there, beautifull place
It's a lovely city!
Likes Zambia from Tanzania 🇹🇿🇿🇲
🙏🙏🙏🥳
Next time 😎
Just saw this, Really amazing Vlog!
Your channel actually has a huge growth potential!
Wake up.
@6:25 you did well to avoid the crowd
I thought so too! Any ideas what the commotion was about?
@@DrifterDave not sure when you passed but that's the supreme Courts ground and if it was mid 2021 then most likely it was the then opposition party there and 2 people got killed there by stray bullets
It was in July 2019!
Nice commentary!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@DrifterDaveSure did. Was really interesting to see my country from a tourist's perspective. Are you Canadian?
Tilus Newman I sure am! Thank you for checking out my vlog! 😎👍
@@DrifterDave Sweet. I am actually living in NS Canada right now. Perhaps you should give me a tour someday! Haha.
I live in Calgary, Alberta! Let me know if you are ever in the area - take care!
I love my city Lusaka
I love it too!
Zambia is interesting place to live and visit
Interesting your tour around Lusaka. The building you stood under, opposite FINDECO house is where I work.
Welcome and hope you enjoyed your time here.
Hello, enjoyed your kafue vid recently 😁
@@michelod.i.y.5202 Oh thanks. 😁😁
Thank you for watching! 😎
Lovely vlog. Zambia is southern Central Africa though.
Yes, the only reason it’s included in the “East Africa Vlog” is because it was the launching point for the railway trip to East Africa. 28 of the 30 episodes in the series are actually in East Africa (my focus for this particular trip).
Taking photos is not illegal in Zambia
Yes, I know! Sometimes the police approach you and question you if you're a tourist taking photos (even in Canada), but I know there is no law against it in Zambia.
GREAT VIDEO. THX
You’re very welcome 🙏
Zambia is rich❤❤❤🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
Yes!
What are suggestions as a single female taking a taxi from the airport? Is it safe or should I get a hired service?
I had no problems with the taxis in Lusaka. It’s a very safe city, and I doubt you’d have any issues at all. If you want to set the tone with the driver, take a photo of the car and number plate and send them to a friend before you enter the car - a female friend of mine swears by that in cities where Uber is not available. Safe travels 🙏
my country 🇿🇲⚡️
A very beautiful country!!
you will need someone to guide you around our country, u literally viewed less than 1 percent of the city🤦
Yes, I agree that I didn’t see much on my short visit around the city. I felt too jet lagged after the 30-hour flight to explore too hard, and was focused on arranging the rail journey and my days beyond. I plan to return to Lusaka and give the city a closer look in the coming years 👍
Thank you for visiting zambia
You are most welcome!
@@DrifterDave
You are most welcome to Zambia. You should visit Zambia again.
Amazing channel
Thank you so much 😀

@@t.k313 Hmm... I wonder why... Maybe where you are from or what you were doing here caused that ? It must be a recommended video that TH-cam is suggesting to you at the end of the credits. They are unique for every viewer (basically TH-cam ads).

I love your commentary.
Thank you!
Great video! Did you have to get a visa in order go enter Zambia?
Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa. As a Canadian, I paid $50 USD for a tourist visa, issued on arrival at Lusaka International Airport. Check the following link for info:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Zambia
All I think about is the food when I see a traveling documentary lol
I should probably film the food more often (must be too focused on eating it!) 😎
Zambia is very safe.. You didn't even see half of Lusaka
I didn’t attempt to see much of Lusaka - I was jet lagged and was only there to buy the ticket for the train to Dar. Just a brief visit around the city centre. And I’m in agreement that Lusaka is one of the safest capitals in Africa 👍
the first moment i saw Lusaka i saw Paused development.
What do you figure is holding it back?
@@DrifterDave that's a long multi faceted answer that cant receive fair treatment in a mere 30 second TH-cam reply. But it is endemic in many former protectorates and colonies around the world.
Fair enough! Would love to hear your thoughts on it sometime.
Good job
Thanks! 🙏
What about zambia money rate
they are using doller or kawcha
1 United States Dollar equals 21.95 Zambian Kwacha
That's true Zambia city.
Excellent city 👍 I can’t wait to return and see more of it
My house is literally there in that area
Very cool! 😎
I'm planning to visit there
Been there years ago
I hope you enjoyed your visit!
Beautiful

You needed a proper tour, you didn't go far 😂
Yes, my time here was very limited (and I was very jet-lagged 😂😂). I will be back!!!
Usually a gathering like that means the president is usually about to drive down that street
Very interesting! Thank you for the insight 😎
The President of Zambia has sold his country into a debt trap. Wake up.
In Zambia you can walk freely without any fear or racism
I agree, it is a very safe and pleasant country!

These vlogs were filmed on a Canon SL2 DSLR with a Sigma 18-250 mm lens and Rode VideoMicro or on my iPhone 7 (depending on how feasible it was to film with the big rig). If you're interested in tech specs on a video to video basis, I list this info in the description of each video! Thank you for your question!
