I grew up in a Victorian house...all those extra spaces, the old fireplaces (we had the iron kind too, with a curved grate over it), the tall ceilings and detailed moldings...My father passed several years ago and mom sold it just this past summer. (It had 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, 3 "dens" and crazy large rooms...way too much space for an older woman living alone) So much of what you're showing here reminds me of "home"...your home is well loved and well preserved...you should definitely be proud of it! And your bedroom fireplace is a work of art! Beautiful.

Oh how I love everything I saw - I would love to walk through it and see what I can get from the energy from all the people who have lived there - those blue stairs were just calling to me; sorry if I sound like a nut but I am very psychic and love old houses...so happy you kept the Victorian look - my favourite era...we had bathtubs like that in England and one here in Canada...thanks - feeling sick today and that took my mind off things - stunning home!!!! xxxxSuzy

You and Doug are doing a wonderful job with this house. I was an antique dealer a few years back so I know from first hand how much work goes into restoring houses and furniture. I think all the stripper fumes have given me asthma and added to the COPD. My house is a hodgepodge of different eras but I tend to lean more toward farmhouse. But I have two very old pieces from the early to middle eighteen hundreds, one is made of cherry from Kentucky (I think) and the other is a dry sink with built-in ceramic bowl. Just have fun doing the restorations. It will give you some great memories and some nightmares.

I've been one of your subscriber's for years but since I'm stuck in the house with this virus I'm watching all over again. You keep saying it may be boring but I think it's fasanating. Your home is beautiful. I love all the fireplaces. Your home is so cozy and you are a fantastic interior decorator. Love you, Doug, and Oliver. You should be proud of your home because y'all did a beautiful job. Take care, stay safe and healthy.

Kelly, I love Victorian Trading Company! I have looked at the catalog many a time. Thank you so much for such a wonderful compliment. Goodness, you are sweet! Interesting thing about Faith Hill. My brother videos a lot of the country music stars and he said Faith Hill had big ears. He said it was kind of nice cause there was something that wasn't so perfect about her! Anyway, thank you so much again for the lovely compliments! xxx, Melissa

Nothin' wrong with being proud of yourself because you certainly deserve to be. You really can't say you are not artistic, considering what you and your husband have accomplished. What a delightful home. Oozing with your charm. I especially love the adorable little bedroom you created for the grandkids. Those little beds look so darling tucked away up there. I think that's the place I'd curl up with a book under the skylight. Can't wait to see more. Laurie

You should be darn proud of the hard work you put into your home. It's beautiful! You've also done an amazing job with all the faux finishes. Your so talented. The bathroom is adorable. I've never heard of a pillbox toilet. Fascinating. Love the tub. My Aunt had a claw foot tub. I stayed with her when I was younger for a week. I remember soaking in that big tub. Annie's room is adorable. I bet the Grand-kids get a kick out of crawling into bed. Love your closet with the vanity!

Cheryl, that made my eyes tear up. You do get me so much and it's gratifying to me. Some people wouldn't live in my house if they were paid, but that's what makes us all so interesting. I know so many stories i will share over the months of former residents and how they were about as crazy as i am, love you, Cheryl, Melissa

You've done such a great job keeping an authentic feel, and your faux finishes are beautiful. I love that you didn't try to fight the feeling of the house--very charming. I grew up in a Victorian-era farmhouse (1871--I was the 5th generation to live there)--my parents gutted the downstairs and "modernized" it in the 70's, but kept the upstairs as it was (what did those people have against closets, by the way. lol), so this style is like "home" to me. Thanks for sharing it with us! :) Lindsay

Hi Melissa, I so enjoyed your home tour! I love older homes because of the charm and history behind them. Also, all of the built ins and cubby holes that they don't use in the newer homes built today! You did a beautiful job sticking to that period and I love the wallpapered ceilings. Just beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing! Hugs, Colleen xox :)

I'm taking you back old school. Lol. I found your channel and started binge watching. You are the sweetest little southern bell. I'm from Kentucky but I think your accent is more southern than mine.
( I know you probably think Ky isn't southern but northerners do.) I just wanted to say, thanks for showing us your house ,even though you thought it was messy( it wasn't). It helps people relate better to you. I just can't feel comfortable in a house where every single thing is in place. I like a home that looks lived it . ( I guess you just live in the closet because the rest was perfect with nothing out of place). Lol. I'm just cutting up with you. Beautiful home but you are even more beautiful. Your inner beauty shines through to your beautiful face. Thanks for sharing.

Just looooooved your house. I am old soul..never could get into this new art....either it is furniture or an art. As a child I loved visiting castles pretending I was a princess wearing those long dresses and big baroque type of jewerly..growing up in Europe it was all around me. My grandmother owned some magnificent antique furniture pieces..My friends and familly untill now would say in previous life I musthave been a princess...funny how we turn out. I can understand your appreciation of old style beauty. Oh, Melissa you have done amazing job on that fireplace in bedroom...it does look like mahagony and marble!! I've always dreamed of living in a Victorian home, so touring yours was a real treat. I try to incorporate a few victorian touches in my traditional style house. I loved hearing about Annie's room. How thrilled she would be knowing that we are all imagining her walking down those stairs to attend to her duties. Your home is utterly charming!

Hi Joy, I just finished the tour, myself. And yes, wasn't that fun to see Annie's room? And to think that it was over a hundred years ago that she was there with the owners... And that bathroom...gorgeous. I also thoroughly enjoyed the tour. And my dream home is also an old Victorian with all the gingerbread and I would have it totally shabby chic...but more chic than shabby, if ya know what I mean. :) Take care. :)

Oh Joy, I can't thank you enough for this. Victorian homes aren't for everyone but we've been really happy here. The elderly man that lived across the street told us, before he died, when he was a little boy, he could remember Annie when she was old. I liked that. I love history so much. Thank you more than I can say. Much love, Melissa

Oh thank you so much! Annie's room had been shut off for so many years. I really want to keep the kitchen stairs sort of rough when we redo the kitchen. It's all been a work of love and I thank you so much. Much love, Melissa

I'm crazy about your home! I love everything! It's amazing! Reminds me so much of my grandmother's house that we grew up in....all the nooks and crannies are so neat. I'm one of those persons who like the Victorian look, or anything old like that. I love that bathroom with the pill box toilet, tub and sink. I love those old stairs that go to the kitchen. I can't wait to see the rest!!! Excellent work!

I love the warmth of the timber and the greens. These are my favourite colours and I have them in my home too. Isn't it wonderful to 'save' treasures from the past and put them into use. We go to Garage sales and Deceased Estates every weekend and if I find a treasure, I always ask the name of the person who owned it so I can honour them. Even down to an old woven wire doormat. Your home is beautiful, Melissa.

+Fluffy It really is fulfilling to think of saving something that maybe a person before you had been proud of and had loved. Oh I love that you honor the deceased this way! What a lovely gesture. Thank you for all your kind words. Much love Melissa

Now Deidre, that is a good idea about the embroidered initials. Thank you for the idea. And thank you for your lovely compliments. We don't get much snow in our climate, so it is a treat to see it out those windows when it does. I had always wanted a fireplace in the bedroom, so that also attracted me to the house. I really appreciate again your lovely words, xxx, Melissa

I absolutely loved your house tour. I have always wanted an old house to live in. My husband has said 'no way' (because of the never ending work involved) but he told me that maybe some day we can have a newer house that is built to look old. And at 34 years of marriage, I now have an 8 year old Victorian Farmhouse. (the farmhouse part suites me more :o) It's sets atop a ridge in the middle of 54 acres. I LOVE it, but with 10 ft ceilings, I can't get it warm enough for me. So I am appreciating my newly acquired..... 'hot flashes ;o)
I just subscribed and you are my first one. Have a blessed day.....

Thank you so much, Sherri. It used to matter more when he was in his 20's and I was 31 with two young kids, but with him in his 50's and me in my 60's it doesn't matter as much. Than you so much for the sweet things you said about our house. I just can't thank you enough. Much love Melissa

What you've done with the ceilings is amazing, they are so beautiful. You must have so much fun finding all the pieces to put your house together. Love all that woodwork & you did an excellent job of the faux painting, I thought that was marble on the fireplace. I've never seen a toilet like the one you choose & how appropriate for a females bathroom, it's very appealing, I could see that in my fantasy house. That bathtub is perfect. The cupboard with the old wood and that lovely brass opening is such a great touch, I really love how you put everything together. But the best of all is Annie's room, it's weird really because I bet Annie probably didn't like it being a servant and all but I adore small secret staircases leading up to the highest point in a house. That would have to be my space for sure. I sway back and forward from wanting natural wood (by the way love you bathroom table & sink) to wanting everything painted in antique white. I have a cupboard that is just made of pine & because I'm in a white phase at the moment I want to paint it white but I can't seem to bring myself to do it because of the hassle that the reverse process would be. I actually cringe & yell out when I'm watching those make over shows when they start to paint wood or stone, even bricks. Well that was a great tour of your upstairs area and I appreciate it very much. Have fun and enjoy those grandbabies of yours :)♥

Cherylene, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this comment. It is so gratifying to read the words of someone who likes what we have done to our house. You know, we think of this house like a child or something. We will be out and see something "it" would like, like it is a living thing. I too like white and think it looks great in a house. The Victorians liked color, that's why we stripped or faux painted all the wood. Thank you so much again sweet one, for your encouragement and kind words. Xxx, Melissa
