Your home is lovely.The.faux finish you have done on all the wood trim is astonishing. You are a faux finish queen! That mailbox, I've never seen a glass mailbox. The view looking up the staircase with the arch window, chandelier and wallpaper ceiling is awesome. Looking forward to more. Take your time so I can get a good look.

I love your house as i love older homes! I live in 1 similar to yours but has a front porch and everybody thinks it's old but was built in 1994. My brother & I (mainly him -I am there for when he needs help on colors, hardware, cabinets, lighting etc and ordering stuff when he needs it) just started working on renovating 1 of the oldest houses in Galveston, Tx-it was built in 1852- simple Greek revival & was 1 of 2 houses that survived the Galveston fire & also survived the 1900 hurricane! xo

Melissa- I have watched your channel for awhile but with all of us staying home more I have been binging your older videos. I love your house and the care you are giving to restoring it. I also think you and Doug are adorable. Mostly I am soaking up your love of family. We have a blended family and it is the most difficult and rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Our 4 kids are older now -youngest is 19, and I’m really relating to your videos. We were empty nesters and I hated it. My husbands (our) youngest just moved in with us and I love it. Grandkids look like much more fun though!!

***** Oh Diana, I really do. I feel like we are only caretakers of these things. I think of the history, the stories that the houses could tell, the people that have been born, have loved and have died in the houses. Thank you so much for letting me think about it again! Love you, Melissa

What a charming house, Melissa!! You have done a beautiful job of restoring it to it's original beauty... I cannot imagine how many hours of hard work! We have a more contemporary house, but I have something antique in just about ever room. I love the look, feel and smell of antique furniture. My husband and I have spent many hours at antique stores, it's one of our favorite things to do together. Big hugs!! ~Natalie PS Love Jerree, she is such a wonderful lady.

Your home is exquisite! The woodwork is beautiful. Love the wallpaper on the ceiling. I had no idea you could buy furniture on Ebay! It must be such a wonderful thing to do to bring back an old home to it's glory. It's magnificent. I adore Victorian homes & furnishings. I live in NJ & Cape May has many Victorian's. A town not to far from me offers house tours of their Victorian's. Can't wait to see the rest of your home. You should be so proud of it, I know you are. Thanks for the tour!

Wow! Far, far, far from boring! Your home is magnificent! I have learnt so much in one video. i had never heard of faux wood grain (so I had to Google it), or that Victorian ceilings were wallpapered. What a massive and beautiful job you did. The tour of your home was not only beautiful but interesting.
I have always been fascinated with the variety and beauty in architecture of American homes (I am Australian) and I have to admit i was delighted when looking back as some of your earlier videos that you shared your home with your viewers.

Thank you for your generosity in sharing your beautiful and graceful home. I love old homes and appreciate it when they are restored and cared for. They are treasures. It's such a treat to get a glimpse into your life, as well. What you described about the TH-camr you follow (I couldn't quite catch her channel name, sorry) is, exactly, how I feel and I know it's probably pretty universal. I look forward to seeing your neighborhood, the rest of your house and other things you'll share. I loved your home movie of your childhood and growing up. Thank you, Melissa. Bless you.

Thank you so much for the tour of your beautiful home! You all have done a wonderful job restoring your "painted lady". I can't even imagine faux painting all that woodwork! I'm not lucky enough to live in an old house, but we do have lots of antique furniture, both inherited and purchased (a couple of pieces from eBay). I used to watch "This Old House"all the time. This video came up on my "suggested" list, and I'm so glad because I didn't watch TH-cam 2 years ago and had not seen your house. All the work you did would not have been worth it if the house wasn't nice. It is STUNNING! I have never seen a staircase anything like yours. And the ceilings!! And the fireplaces!! And the person coming to the door to offer you the original dining room mirror!!!! I just loved every second of this - and just hope you KNEW it would be this lovely while you slaved away on all of the woodwork and the dining room! THANK YOU!

When you get your front porch put back on - I know u will enjoy it so much sitting out on it knitting or having a nice glass of wine with your hubby or lemondande w your grandkids - i wish they would build houses these days with porches and more character - the new houses these days all seem to look the same inside and out with no character or difference between them. I designed a house to be built but after all that we had to go ahead & buy this house as was going to take 2 years to build.

Thanks Melissa for your compliments - you are so sweet! Do you ever watch Rehab Addict - i think it is on HGTV with the attractive blonde who buys these old old houses - i think in the Chicago area? Anyway she buys these houses for i think next to nothing before they get demolished and then is very creative in restoring them to keep costs down by reusing a lot of things and does really great work - she really goes at it and works hard but you may enjoy watching it .. Take good care xox

Such a beautiful and historic home. Love the ceilings and the person who saved the mirror for your house. Precious!
We have a house built in 1889, a much smaller one story house. The papered ceilings have been since painted over. I'm so impressed with the restoration work you've done!!
Some of your older videos have been popping up and I have enjoyed watching them.
I'm always reading people's lips and you speak so nice and clearly especially in the older videos. I'm not meaning to criticize, I've just noticed a difference in your mouth movement. Strange thing for someone to say huh!?
    Lastly, like you,
I once slapped a rear end, it was weird, it was just such an overwhelming urge and I just did it. The only difference was I know the lady very well so it was pretty funny. My hats off to you for acting it out on a stranger!! I feel connected to you through that incident!
As always you are very beautiful and haven't aged a day in the last 4 years!! Thank you for making all these videos.

(contd from above) and i wish i could find a builder that would use the plans to build it for a house they could sell just so i could see it built -I spent a year designing it (labor of love) & would love to see how it turned out in person. I realized then what i wanted to be when I grew up LOL! -an architect but a bit late now! oh well-who knows maybe i would have grown tired of designing for other people! Omigoodness, Melissa I ♥♥♥ your house!!! In Portland, Oregon we have so many of those old houses and I just cry when I see them bc they are so beautiful!! And what's so awesome is that a lot of times they are painted really bright colors! Many of those homes and gorgeous Victorians, too, are downtown. I'm tellin ya...turquoise and bright purple, turquoise and lime green, even red and purple and they all look SO amazing!!!! They're my dream home. And your house is absolutely lovely and I haven't even walked thru the front door yet!! lol But I had to stop the vid to comment already. OK, on with the tour. Let's go in...
Wow..faux painting? I've never heard of that. Well, you did a great job cuz all that wood is gorgeous! And those ceilings are spectacular! And that cute little Victrola! Oooh it's all so gorgeous and what a great decorator you are. You've certainly got a lot of beautiful old furniture pieces. Thank you so much for the tour and I was certainly NOT bored! Your home is lovely! Can't wait to see the rest. Ok I'm done rambling now. lol
    Thanks again.
    XOXO ~Jill

Oh thank you so much, Jill!!! I have seen picture of the ones in Portland you are talking about!! We really studied the Victorians before we restored the house and realized a lot of people had myths about the decor. You think of pink and lots of angels, but they really liked the bold colors and wallpaper. A lot of it was snobbery on their part. They wanted to appear richer than they were and certainly richer than their neighbors! They were so interesting and so were the people that built the house. It's been fun and a privilege to live here. Thank you and much love, Melissa

***** Oh How interesting!! I know I just love to drive by the old neighborhoods and see the old Victorians. The're just so gorgeous. I will say that I have never seen the inside of one, til I saw yours!! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your beautiful home!! You guys did an amazing job restoring it. Lucky you to live there!
      Take good care.
      XOXO

such detail in your house. That's funny about getting your mirror back like that & the tiles for the fireplace. I watch grand designs (I love restoration shows) but a lot of times when they are restoring castles, they'll find major pieces of stonework in neighbouring properties & strewn all over the vicinity of the castle. Such character in your house. Was it a house that was in your family long ago or just a house you bought to restore? The grates you have in the floor have always been something that is interesting because I don't know what they are for. Some houses in NSW have a similar looking grate but they are on the outside of the foundations or in the outer walls very high up :)♥

Cherylene, thank you so much for the lovely comments about my house. Doug and I bought the house about 12 years ago. Things were pretty structurally sound, and sort of restored, but some things we had to undo. Everything on the house was painted white, so we had to paint, wallpaper and strip the white off the wood or faux paint it to look like wood. The floor heaters are how our heat comes out. In Victorian times, they had a coal fed furnace in the basement and the heat would rise up through those vents and heat the house. I really do appreciate your lovely comments. Love, Melissa

I noticed your house on videos as a relatively new subscriber and I was wondering if you did a tour so I was happy to find these videos. Beautiful! I have a 1906 small Victorian.
What wood did you pick for your floors that you had to redo?

Your house is just lovely- not boring in the least! I look forward to seeing more! ☺ You and your husband are so talented! The Victorian design is my most favorite. Beautiful~
May I ask you a favor regarding home tour vids? Would you mind when you're panning to do so, very s-l-o-w-l-y? Panning around quickly can really mess with one's equilibrium.. especially mind. ☺ Thank you so much for the consideration.
Thank you again, for sharing your home and life with us.
