Many years ago I discovered why some thermostats have a small hole in the metal ring. It's to let air and a small amount of water to flow when the thermostat is closed. Since then if they don't have the small hole I drill one. Saves time on bleeding the system as you don't have to wait for thermostat to open to let all air out. Especially on Bongos. Cheers from old George

i followed your guidance and replaced my thermostat, thank you. I've come away think i could have, from below, removed the two 12mm bolts dropped the bottom of the thermostat housing and replaced the thermostat that way

Is the radiator cap and overflow cap on or off while you are bleeding/purging the air out? I’ve had people tell me to leave radiator cap off while idling/heating up radiator! Thanks

hey man i have to replace my thermostat today, do I just use water to bleed it? you say at the end of the video to do it until the thermostat opens, what happens after that?

Once the thermostat opens it will allow coolant to circulate the whole system, just make sure you keep the coolant filled up in the water reservoir 👍

Thanks for the detailed video, very helpful! Could I ask how can I tell if the thermostat has been removed?
