Hey Riley - it's possible to pump on a regular skateboard but it's a bit different and a bit more tricky too. If you're starting out and are learning to improve your surfing too, I'd recommend a surfskate because the trucks are looser, the feeling is more similar to surfing too. Good drills. Not sure if that wide stance and rear foot placement is optimal for everyone, though.
