I'm an old guy (72) watching this video at slow speed and correct me if I 'm wrong, but you are standing regular for most of the video, but at 1:48 to 1:52 you appear now to be standing goofy. After 1:52 you return to regular. I went over that 4 second interval a number of times but I still do not understand if the change is really there! I just wonder if anyone else has noted this. The arm movements can be really confusing if the stance changes!
Hey Larry, good catch! There’s a chance I might’ve flipped the video, which could make it look like I’m switching stances. I’m usually regular, though, so that might explain the confusion. Thanks for pointing it out! it’s always cool to see someone analyzing so closely!
@@MAKOSurfskate Thanks for getting back to me so promptly! So many other video creators probably do not monitor either their videos or their comments. For anyone else watching your excellent videos, it might help them to do a few things: (1) use the 'stop action' key (K) or (2) use the option function to slow the video action in order to study the individual movements more carefully and (3) practice the movements OFF THE BOARD then ON THE BOARD on a NON-ROLLING SURFACE. I think these need to develop first before trying them on a MOVING BOARD where BALANCE is so critical. Sorry if I ran on too long with these follow-up comments!!
@@larrygorwick6280 Thank you so much for sharing these great tips! I completely agree, breaking down movements step by step and practising in a controlled way off the board first is key. I also wanted to let you know that I’ve incorporated these improvements into my new online courses. They include detailed breakdowns of movements, slow-motion demos, and progressive exercises to build confidence and balance, both on and off the board. You can check them out here: makosurfskate.com/courses/ Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback, it’s comments like yours that help me make my content even better!
Hi! I know this video is a bit old but if I sent you a clip of me learning, would you review it to tell me how I can improve? I always feel like I will fall forward when I lean forward so I need some help! 😂
@@MAKOSurfskate That's awesome of you to help me! I have a short video with a few clips. Do you have an email address I can send them to? I don't have IG unfortunately.
hi Tommy, thanks for your comment. So first off - I just wanted to clarify that you're asking about frontside pumping (because with backside pumping, you want more weight on your heels as you're extending). I like to have more weight on my toes (with barely any weight on my back foot) when I frontside pump, because it gives me more control on the board. I explain the stance in detail in the 2nd module of the Mako Surfskate online course, I'd definitely recommend you check it out if you haven't already. There's lots of simple drills to help your body get used to it! courses.makosurfskate.com/p/regular
I need to do the course. I can only keep it moving on slight downhill slope. On flat I just cannot move after initial push/roll. Is part of it a strength thing? I've got kinda chicken legs lol
Hey there, no worries! Yeah so when you learn how to pump, you can generate your own speed so you don’t need a downhill slope. It does require leg strength but you’ll develop this as you learn it :) When you get really good, you’ll even be able to pump uphill! I’ll link the course here so you can check it out: You can read more about it here… makosurfskate.com/course/
Watched someone else teach how to do it, wasn't able to do it after 40 minutes, watched you, did it after a minute or two, thank you very much.

Anyone know what kind of board he is using?
That's our custom-made board 😁
I dont get what is the right stance. Is the heel of the backfoot in the air and just my toes on the board?

At the end he says you can send the video per Instagram to get a feedback about your surfskating. I sent the video and never got a reply, how bad
Hey there! Thanks for your comment, we haven’t received any videos from you - could you please resend it? We will then analyse it asap for you 😊
