I don't think you will be able to remove the starter in 4wd models without removing the intake manifold. There is practically zero clearance underneath. We did one of these last night, it was a pain. We put the front of the car on jack stands, blocked it up well. Support the engine from beneath with a floor jack (allowing it to roll forwards and backwards). Loosen the drivers side motor mount a few turns on each bolt (16mm 6 point will work). Unbolt the coolant overflow (2-10mm bolts beside passenger strut tower one has a cable clipped on it). Totally remove the passenger motor mount (3 bolts on engine side, and 3 bolts on body side 11mm 6 point will work). You can then pull the motor forward a couple inches with a cable come along and strap, or maybe even just a ratchet strap. We used a come along pulling against a solid post in the garage with a strap around the cylinder head being careful not to pull the car off the jack stands (again block up well, some blocks of wood are useful here, something solid, stay safe). Watch the primary o2 sensor clearance to the fan shroud here, that looked like the first place it would hit, we stopped pulling with just a slight gap here. This will make a huge difference in removing the intake manifold and starter. There is very little clearance behind the motor otherwise, like maybe a couple inches. We actually left the intake manifold loose behind the motor as it was still tight to get between the cylinder head and firewall. We spun the throttle body side down and picked the passenger side up, push it towards the passenger side and out of your way and you can access the starter from above on the drivers side. The lower bolt is hard to see, but can be removed with a box end wrench ideally a longer 12 point (14mm) as you can barely get any movement here (great place for a ratcheting wrench). There is a vent tube with a rubber hose on the transmission right in front of the lower bolt that makes it difficult to get a socket in here, the hose just pulls off, but the tube it is on still was too close for my ratchet. I hope this helps someone, I am sure there are people watching this looking for answers. This job is a pain in the butt. I don't know what a dealer would charge to do this job. It is doable with pretty basic tools, but don't expect this to be the typical 2 bolts 2 cables job.
This video was perfect, all the info I needed , the last video showed to take intake off and I've always been good at getting the part out if it will fit.
It's understandable when engine is out how do you get to starter when it in the car and not out of car that's what's giving me a hard time getting to it?
I have a jeep Cherokee 2016 I was driving it then suddenly shut off , I towed it to my mechanic, he said the starter has to be replaced and the cost is 1,400 dollars, he said that he needs to remove the engine. Please any help from anyone thanks.
Dude this video sucks, your changing the part with the engine removed, and there is a way to remove the starter without removing the CV axle, you have wasted your time posting this vid😅
You repeatedly say you will have to remove X part to get to it then immediately flash on the screen "You do not have to remove X component" all the while showing people how to do it with rhe entire engine out. Your videos with the entire engine out are completely useless. People are trying to repair their cars WITHOUT removing the entire engine to do it so how about regular videos for the regular people working in their driveways. 🤷♂️

Thank you . Your channel has helped on several jobs already .
How do you remove the starter from underneath the engine?
Thank you in advance
Can you explain how to do it without pickup the engine?
Thank you in advance

I'm not pulling my engine to change the starter
It's understandable when engine is out how do you get to starter when it in the car and not out of car that's what's giving me a hard time getting to it?
Have you been able to figure it out?
How do I troubleshoot and see if it's a starter the starter kicks in but it won't stay in to start the Jeep so does anybody have any idea
Stop doing this! No one is pulling their engine!!
Yeah that starter is not accessible on my 2015 sport renegade awd
In this video is this the FWD or the 4x4?
How were you able to replace the starter without removing the manifod or axle? do you have a new video? Please let us know. Thanks
Like 99.9999999% of viewers are gonna remove the engine. After 14 “guys” i had to stop watching.
Just did my 2019 Jeep Cherokee 2.4 liter 2 wheel drive starter with out removing any other components
I have a jeep Cherokee 2016 I was driving it then suddenly shut off , I towed it to my mechanic, he said the starter has to be replaced and the cost is 1,400 dollars, he said that he needs to remove the engine.
Please any help from anyone thanks.
I think he meant to say after we removed the engine we were able to remove the starter cause this doesn’t make sense
I just replaced one without removing the manifold or the axle.
Did you do it from the top or bottom?
Top or bottom please help 2015 jeep renegade
FWD or 4x4?
You’re no help
Make note, the advice given is for a FWD model, not AWD
:(
Almost impossible to do with 4x4 jeep. You need to drop the transfer case or remove the intake.
More Fiat Multiair junk that's ruining Chrysler.
