You can’t apply many of the mineral sunscreens the way you would other lotions and creams.
@@styleandbeautydoctor Hmm I already returned it. But I will try this when I try out other mineral sunscreens. Have you tried the Pipette mineral sunscreen? It gave the same, if not more intense tint. But the price is amazing for spf50.

10/10 Dr Dennis Gross Sheer Mineral Sun Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Protection but they just recently discontinued it😑 no white cast and mineral, they need to bring it back ASAP!
Ughhhhhh! I just got a Beauty Counter mineral sunscreen spray so hopefully it winds up being good. Either way it’ll be in another video down the line so stay tuned!
Yassss... I've been using the sunprise ever since purito checked in as questionable. I really like it! I forgot I bought it but it popped up when purito had to get set to the side and side eyed 👀
Thanks so much for doing these reviews! It would be super nice though if we could see a picture of just how much white cast was present when you have the appropriate amount of sunscreen on your face. Most of the demos show how they blend with very little product, which makes them look invisible. I purchased the etude house, versed, and replenix cream and none of them are passable on my NC42 skintone, the white casts with a couple thin layers of product are very very apparent. It would have been nice to see what these really look like in your review before we purchase these expensive products
This was an overview. In the full reviews on my mineral sunscreen playlist, you can see more of the application, but I don’t know how that would have helped you since you say you still couldn’t use the ones I liked. It’s possible you might not be waiting for it to “settle” like I mentioned in the video or you’re applying too much. All of the ones you mentioned that didn’t work were passable for me and I’m a lot darker than you.
@@styleandbeautydoctor I bought them based off of your past reviews, and they do look great when I'm using 1/2 to 1/4 the amount, but with the actual 1/4 teaspoon we're supposed to be wearing every day (I measure it with the 1/4 teaspoon measure every morning), I cant make them work. I tried rubbing vigorously, waiting up to 30 minutes in between layers, waiting less time in between layers, changing up my skincare products underneath, but they're still not wearable without makeup. I was really hopeful because your complexion is so gorgeous and rich and they looked great on you. I'm wondering if maybe you aren't applying as much of the product as is recommended to in these demos?
@@everglade93 I’m definitely applying enough-I do thin layers until I have the adequate amount. Also outside of the filmed demos I also wear them out in the elements before making making my reviews. Other people here and in past videos have also commented saying those same sunscreens work for them. Now bear in mind these aren’t going to look invisible like a chemical sunscreen might. Sorry you’re having trouble.
@@vanessak487 I haven't found one :/ Most of these would be perfectly suited under makeup if you wanted to use makeup to hide the whitecast, but daily makeup wear is just not feasible with my job so I still wear chemical sunscreen every day
@The Style and Beauty Doctor Thank you for the recap and round-up of mineral sunscreens. I'm curious about the amount of product needed for adequate coverage and how this affects how blendable each product is or how many layers need to be applied. Thanks again for this useful content and the timestamps for future reference. You're the best - have a lovely Christmas/ festive season.
I use red Raspberry seed oil. Got tired of trying to find sunscreens cotz was the only one that had minimal irritation.. started researching natural sunscreen the red seed oil does the trick..dont have to worry about the cast and it's better for your skin
Red raspberry seed oil doesn’t provide sufficient UVA protection so using it alone won’t properly protect your skin. UVA are the ones that can cause most of the issues we try to avoid.
Yes but you can make your own with it...my skin is very sensitive and these sunscreens make my skin itch have tried so many.. I can use on my body but my face gets irritated quickly.. then you have to put it on every 2 hrs it's too much, you have to make sure you wash it off before bed and it's basically caked in your skin so you have to really scrub to make sure all of its gone so you don't clog your pores..someone that's busy day to day is not thinking about putting sunscreen on their face every 2 hrs..
I’ve tried tons of sunscreens both mineral and chemical. While some mineral sunscreens can be a bit harder to remove with a single cleanse, they come off nicely with a double cleanse (especially when you first use a cleansing oil and then a regular cleanser after). You don’t have to scrub them off. But I also don’t think the “average busy person” is going to want to make their own sunscreen. Formulating sunscreen is a very involved process and even when brands who have the big bucks make them, they have to pass FDA requirements and such. The reasoning behind reapplying every two hours is that sunscreen even water resistant formulas can break down through the day especially for folks going outdoors for prolonged periods of time, after sweating profusely, or going swimming. Even if your homemade sunscreen hypothetically works, it can still break down because of the situations I just mentioned. Anyway, I’m very curious to know what you’re using to make your own UVA protection.
Yes and be careful I have been researching and a lot of these sunscreens cause more harm than good and a lot dont even really protect as much as you think and can actually aid in skin cancer. Which I kind of figured like most products PPL don't pay attention to the stuff they add in addition all this stuff is going into your system keep in mind...
How does the Cotz behave in oily skin? I've been researching for a mineral sunscreen for dark skin but does not leave my face looking like a greasy mess. Its hard work y"all
It is hard! Some of the mineral sunscreens that blend in best use a formula that tends to be a little on the greasy side. I have oily skin and would use the Cotz in fall, winter, and spring but it wouldn’t be the best for me in the summer.
With the Ilia brand or just sunscreens in general..... is it ok to apply sunscreen after your moisturiser? I usual put on my moisturiser and wait 10 minutes then put on the sunscreen on top but wanted to clarify if this is the right way round
@@styleandbeautydoctor also another question if you don’t mind! How can you tell if a sunscreen has denatured alcohol? What ingredients should I look out for because I’ve heard denatured alcohol in sunscreen can cause free radicals. I think the La Roche Posay sunscreens have denatured alcohol
Thank you so much! I don’t think you need to fear denatured alcohol like that-check out Lab Muffin Beauty Science and Glow By Ramon. They both did videos recently specifically on alcohol in sunscreens that will shed some light. I also have a video with a cosmetic chemist where we talked about a number of ingredient myths including denatured alcohol: th-cam.com/video/yYrM6g4pswk/w-d-xo.html
@@styleandbeautydoctor thanks for replying! Ok I’ll check both of them out because I had started worrying and thought it was a big no no. Thanks again and stay blessed 💛💛
I liked the comfy water until I noticed the pilling. I thought it was the azelaic acid suspension from the ordinary that I've been using before it (which I've since stopped) but no. And you know I think Purito knew about this because on the centella sunscreen bottle, it says that it leaves no white residue but no mentin of that on the comfy water block. ETA: I also really like the versed sunscreen and my skin is on the oily side.
I don’t get what you mean by mentioning the white residue-what did Purito know about? The pilling? The lower spf rating? How did you draw that conclusion from the white residue? I haven’t personally tried it, but the Centella is a chemical sunscreen so it would be less likely to leave a cast than Comfy Water because of the UV filters used.
Love the Biossance sunscreen for my dry skin. Have you tried EleVen by Venus Williams? It is a mineral sunscreen and sheer but it's $40+. I have yet to come across someone who has tried this one.
@@styleandbeautydoctor Hi. That's a shame. I was the subscriber who told you about it. That answers why I haven't seen you mention it in the entire series. Understood. Side eye to them though.
@@styleandbeautydoctor Oh no problem! You have been extremely thorough in your reviews and information. I just thought you had too many to choose from. Lol😆
You should try the pyunkang yul ato mild sun cream! It's SPF 45 and also a physical based sunscreen. I was also completely shattered when the Purito controversy came out BUT THIS - I don't even miss her with this one.
I have it, formula is nice but does leave a cast(not much and I think not too long) It doesn't, if you use a small amount. But that's kind of against the purpose. Hope I helped.
I really like the samples of purito mineral sunscreen. Like it was my first sunscreen ever. Now I’m on the fence on getting the full bottle. Should I risk it or nah??
Hey! It’s technically still sunscreen even if what the testing says is true about its rating. You just have to be diligent to apply the right amount and do your reapplications especially if you’ll be outdoors a lot and reapply immediately after being active (swimming, sweating, or just get caught in a random rainstorm lol) like you would with any sunscreen.
Lmao! I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking these people got deep pockets for some of these prices💀😂😂! I love protection but I side eye my supergoop a lot 💀💀😭😭. I’m tryna see if I can’t get my hands on the Kroger dupe, but we don’t got kroger in Washington state 🥺
Guuuurl, if I can get a body sunscreen 2 for $5 I will buy that. I can’t see myself paying more than like $20 for a facial sunscreen. They used to catch me back in the day but now a sis gotta keep her coins 🤣
I’m still learning ingredients but I stumbled on Kiss My Face Sensitive Side 3 in 1 Broad Spectrum spf30 for sensitive skin and I love it! Not sure how “approved” the ingredients are but it gives me zero caste and minimum grease on my oily skin. Would love your opinion on it.
Thank you! I do find that a majority of the inexpensive mineral sunscreens I’ve tried in my series here on TH-cam weren’t the best for body (because the size was smaller or the cast would be A LOT on the body where it could be passable on the face). Neutrogena Sheer Zinc is the only inexpensive one I can think of that wasn’t too bad on the body. But if it helps, a lot of people who find chemical sunscreens irritating on the face find them to be just fine on the body.
you can---but there are many scenarios where you can apply this. If you put on a chemical sunscreen as your base for the day on your face, but you reapply throughout the day with a mineral powder sunscreen. If you use a chemical sunscreen mostly on your face but then mineral around your eyes (for people who often have sunscreen stinging their eyes). Those are just two examples. The one thing you don't want to do is mix them into each other as it could affect the efficacy of your sunscreen. You don't want to mix anything into any sunscreen that hasn't been tested.
is this process right ? It goes a bit like this: a balm or oil cleanser (1), a foaming cleanser (2), an exfoliant (3), a toner (4), an essence (5), an ampoule or serum (6), a sheet mask (7), an eye cream (8), a moisturizer (9), and then either a thicker night cream or sleeping mask or an SPF
I don't understand how you can say this about the Cotz Flawless Complexion Tinted 50, I have it, I've used it, and it leaves a terrible white gray cast on my skin. Even if I put a little bit at a time. This shit is terrible and so disappointing 😞 how does this work for your shade??
Hey! There’s video of me trying it on that you can check out. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you-but it worked for me and for a lot of other people who have darker skin. It actually came as a request for me to try from a follower who sang its praises for dark skin. Without seeing you or whatever else you’re using it’s hard to say why it doesn’t work for you. I will say though that sometimes people (not saying this is true of you, just speculating) expect mineral sunscreens to be just as invisible and undetectable as chemical sunscreens. I haven’t found that to be true of any American mineral sunscreens I’ve tried but there are formulas that are way better than others.
Don’t you did the cotz spf, to be oily asf lol. I have very oily skin so it didn’t work for me. But a lot of ppl have reviewed on TH-cam that don’t have oily skin & it was still too much ugh
I don’t really have an all-time fave because I like a LOT of different chemical sunscreens, but I have been really liking the Olay Sun Shine Control SPF 35 and Kroger’s dupe for Supergoop Unseen. I have videos on both.
Depends on your skin. Some people prefer mineral because American chemical filters irritate them. Check out this video for more info: th-cam.com/video/giGJ4ewGv0I/w-d-xo.html
I found some Algenist sublime defense at Marshall’s and it was only like $8.00 it’s really good, been using daily! I also have versed, no cast but the formulation is weird

Thank you so much 🤗 welcome to my channel!!!
I just bought the Elta MD physical, and now I see why it’s not on your list..just call me Casper! 👻😅
I got the tinted and I'm light medium still it leaves a cast
@@peacockbird1745 SAME they definitely changed the formula because I’ve purchased it 4 other times and I didn’t have a problem:(
And it pills like crazy...just rolls right back off my face even when I use different moisturizers under it
@@chenesec6513 same!!
Okay so ive been looking everywhere for a fungal acne safe, non ashy physical sunscreen. And i found the sunplay babymilk sunscreen (its korean) i took abit of a gamble ngl had no reviews to go by but it dries down invisible and im dark. And its not drying, has no scene.... Only issue is its small but like im perfectly fine with tht. Got it from yesstyle its the yellow one. Im gonna keeo using it to see if i get any reactions but im so impressed.
Do you still recommend if and do. You have oil skin ?
10/10 Dr Dennis Gross Sheer Mineral Sun Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Protection but they just recently discontinued it😑 no white cast and mineral, they need to bring it back ASAP!
Ughhhhhh! I just got a Beauty Counter mineral sunscreen spray so hopefully it winds up being good. Either way it’ll be in another video down the line so stay tuned!
Your skin is so gorgeous!
Thank youuuuu
Thank you for this video!! Regular sunscreens makes my skin purple and looks weird
Hey girl! Can you do a video of your favorite chemical sunscreens? If you have, I may have missed it!
Btw, great video, as always!
Yassss... I've been using the sunprise ever since purito checked in as questionable. I really like it! I forgot I bought it but it popped up when purito had to get set to the side and side eyed 👀
Lmaooo yasss
@Tamara Charm my skin is fine with it. Haven't had any issues 🤷🏾♀️
I should buy stock in Murad. I prefer chemical as well
Thanks so much for doing these reviews!
What physical sunscreen have you found to work best for you with very little to no white cast
@@vanessak487 I haven't found one :/ Most of these would be perfectly suited under makeup if you wanted to use makeup to hide the whitecast, but daily makeup wear is just not feasible with my job so I still wear chemical sunscreen every day
I need to come back to this video next spring
@The Style and Beauty Doctor Thank you for the recap and round-up of mineral sunscreens. I'm curious about the amount of product needed for adequate coverage and how this affects how blendable each product is or how many layers need to be applied. Thanks again for this useful content and the timestamps for future reference. You're the best - have a lovely Christmas/ festive season.
I love you! Can you please do a video on tinted mineral moisturizers?
Thank you for protecting us from the sun 🌞
❤️❤️😘
@@00wm3371 where did you find this research?
How does the Cotz behave in oily skin? I've been researching for a mineral sunscreen for dark skin but does not leave my face looking like a greasy mess. Its hard work y"all
It is hard! Some of the mineral sunscreens that blend in best use a formula that tends to be a little on the greasy side. I have oily skin and would use the Cotz in fall, winter, and spring but it wouldn’t be the best for me in the summer.
Thanks for such a helpful video !! found my winner with Etude House.
Yw!!!
With the Ilia brand or just sunscreens in general..... is it ok to apply sunscreen after your moisturiser? I usual put on my moisturiser and wait 10 minutes then put on the sunscreen on top but wanted to clarify if this is the right way round
Yes-you’re doing it right! Your sunscreen typically should be the last step in your skincare routine
@@styleandbeautydoctor Great Thank you! I’m a new subbie and love your videos. Learnt so much 💛💛
@@styleandbeautydoctor also another question if you don’t mind!
Regarding Purito, the same thing happened with The Beet Shield from Krave Beauty. It was my favorite.
Thanks for this video. I want to give that Etude one a try. The price is right.
Let me know how you like it!
I haven’t and doubt I will-they ignored me when I tried to reach out earlier this year, but was in my inbox after they saw me on TV 🤣🤣
@@styleandbeautydoctor Hi. That's a shame. I was the subscriber who told you about it. That answers why I haven't seen you mention it in the entire series. Understood. Side eye to them though.
@@t156t2 heyyy! Yeah I don’t like how they did that...lol. Sorry I coudn’t come through for you!
@@styleandbeautydoctor Oh no problem! You have been extremely thorough in your reviews and information. I just thought you had too many to choose from. Lol😆
@@t156t2 lmaoooo thank you!
The purito comfy water block peels for me and doesn’t even soak into my skin, even when I do small amounts
Same for me and it does leave a cast on me unless I apply a little bit.
You should try the pyunkang yul ato mild sun cream! It's SPF 45 and also a physical based sunscreen. I was also completely shattered when the Purito controversy came out BUT THIS - I don't even miss her with this one.
I have it, formula is nice but does leave a cast(not much and I think not too long)
It doesn't, if you use a small amount. But that's kind of against the purpose.
Hope I helped.
Cotz also in ulta
I really like the samples of purito mineral sunscreen. Like it was my first sunscreen ever. Now I’m on the fence on getting the full bottle. Should I risk it or nah??
Hey! It’s technically still sunscreen even if what the testing says is true about its rating. You just have to be diligent to apply the right amount and do your reapplications especially if you’ll be outdoors a lot and reapply immediately after being active (swimming, sweating, or just get caught in a random rainstorm lol) like you would with any sunscreen.
Ok I thought Kenya Moore was on the thumbnail beautiful!!
Oh and try to order the Kroger online!
Great content. Do you have amy recommendations for an inexpensive mineral sunscreen for the body?
@@styleandbeautydoctor thank you for the suggestions!
Your skin looks gorgeous.
Thanks!!!
Seeing Purito on the list after the ✨scandal✨

Hopefully you actually watched the video 😉
Thank you So MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!
Give Pipette Mineral Baby Sunscreen a try. It is a cheaper and made by the parent company of Biossance.
I can't find the Peter Thomas Roth sunscreen powder anywhere. Do you suggest another powdered sunscreen?
I think they discontinued it :/ Try the Supergoop ones that come in the different shades.
I use Chemical sunscreen as well. Unseen sunscreen is my joint.
I have two and need your opinion. Tatcha pore perfecting spf35 and Muraf invisibility spf30. Thoughts????
I’ve never tried the Tatcha. Murad Invisiblur is one of my faves but it’s not mineral if that’s what you’re looking for.
@@styleandbeautydoctor I really don’t know the differences between sunscreens. Does it matter?
So excited!!
🙌🏿🙌🏿
I so love your channel. Thank you for this! Happy holidays! 💙🙏🏻🕊😘 xx
Thank you!!! Happy holidays!!!!
Can you use a chemical and physical sunscreen together? If so, what is the correct order if application? Please advise. Thank you.
you can---but there are many scenarios where you can apply this.
She resembles Kenya Moore.so pretty ❤️

What did you use to give your skin that luminosity/dewyness?
Wooow ...👩🏿 ✨

Don’t you did the cotz spf, to be oily asf lol. I have very oily skin so it didn’t work for me. But a lot of ppl have reviewed on TH-cam that don’t have oily skin & it was still too much ugh
@Leo L yeah do u have oily skin ? I do but reviewers online w/ dry skin have said it’s too greasy as well.
Youre so beautiful!!! you remind me of the tv star and musician Amara La Negra!!
whats your all time favorite chemical sunscreen? if u don't mind me asking
I don’t really have an all-time fave because I like a LOT of different chemical sunscreens, but I have been really liking the Olay Sun Shine Control SPF 35 and Kroger’s dupe for Supergoop Unseen. I have videos on both.
Should i be using mineral sunscreens over chemical
Depends on your skin. Some people prefer mineral because American chemical filters irritate them. Check out this video for more info: th-cam.com/video/giGJ4ewGv0I/w-d-xo.html
I took the Versed back. It was HORRID for me. I have dry skin and and a pecans tan.

I found some Algenist sublime defense at Marshall’s and it was only like $8.00 it’s really good, been using daily! I also have versed, no cast but the formulation is weird
That’s a great price! That Algenist one has some chemical filters in it as well so it’s not 100% mineral.
