    Because I have medium-dark skin I find when using mineral sunscreen using a little bit at a time and building it up over 2-3 applications helps with the white cast! Would not suggest slathering it on.

    • @96unique2
      @96unique2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same, definitely might help the application and decrease white cast sometimes.

    • @sinzasmile2431
      @sinzasmile2431 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think it doesn't really matter because for example the Cotz flawless (FACE) even if you slather it on, there's no cast while others even piece meal application it still leaves a cast. So formulation is the key. I also believe it shouldn't be this much of a task to apply a product especially in the morning when you are about to head out.

    • @Michelle-dm3nl
      @Michelle-dm3nl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sinzasmile2431 Sure I was referring to the mineral sunscreens that I love that have some cast but not ones that would completely looks like a white mask on my face, don't think in that instance it would matter. But it works better when I layer it on as I said. The application is still fast for me at least and I don't have time to sit around either. There aren't many mineral sunscreens with absolutely no cast on dark skin, especially without a tint that usually doesn't work with my skin tone. I don't live in the USA so Cotz is not an option for me.
      Of course for most people a chemical sunscreen would be the fastest solution. I am pregnant + have melasma so I prefer using mineral sunscreens at the moment but do what works for you :)

      Thank you Julian! That was incredibly helpful. Higher SPF Mineral sunscreen for deeper complexions is truly a challenge! Add in combo oily skin and it becomes almost impossible. But a suncreen needs to be re-apply. If you have ti do that everytime you apply it is such a waste of time. I use the COTZ suncreen and you don't have to do all that. I only use mineral on my face because of sensitivities. One that is amazing & works on med dark skintones as well is Dr.Brandts Sun Shield SPF50 it's fantastic. Not thick but not drying, no cast & is great under makeup. I also love Peter Thomas Roth Max Mineral Tint SPF45. I skip any foundation with this one the sheer tint is so good also great under makeup. I also really love the Ilia C Beyond. it's really not makeup like Julian said there is no coverage but I agree with him I would only use it on my face/neck. It's pricey but the feel & finish are great. Josie Maran is one of my OG faves. I'll need to get a bottle once I finish these 3.

    Colorescience FaceShieldFlex in darker tones is really elegant and doesn't leave a cast (my skin is medium tan to deep, and I'd be curious to see results on darker tones) and has a great moisturizing component, and dries down to a healthy glow (powder can take it down to matte). I love this so much I use it in place of foundation - Colorescience also has mineral cosmetics and shaded balms that can be used as blush, highlighter, lip color, mascara - I basically don't wear makeup anymore because this sunscreen works as both! I'll have to check out Julian's content to see if he's reviewed their products!

    I have been liking mineral sunscreens more because it is so hard to find chemical or hybrid sunscreens that don't or barely sting my eyes. Granted, mineral sunscreens with antioxidants does sting my eyes or they kinda dry my eye out and has a white cast, but it's still better than many chemical or hybrid sunscreens. Gosh I miss Mustela hybrid sunlotion so much!!

    I’m very light skinned and my problem with mineral sunscreen is not only white cast but also that it doesn’t sit well under makeup. I don’t *want* to wear mineral sunscreen but I developed an allergy after pregnancy to seemingly all chemical sunscreens (and probably some mineral too). I don’t think the allergy is to the active ingredients but there are so many other ingredients in sunscreens that I’ll probably never be able to pinpoint what caused the allergy.

    Hi dear Susan Yara I've been doing youon FB for years and about over a month on TH-cam....a question; I am 51 I started very late a real skincare routine but I've got better skin of my mum I started a day and night routine at about in my mid 40s!
    Yeah I know as soon as I saw your tutorials and James welshes,,,I quickly though crap lucky I still have skin of a 35 year old.....so I did my research also and I spent 300\250€ on my skincare routine shiesedo I love elemis Garlain clenser boogie stuff almost for my skin care at the moment I purchased a 10% vitamin C serum for 18.99, but it's water!!!! I've tried at the beginning drugstore stuff but I just break out with that stuff it's incredible I never have broken out just when a product is too crap let's say same for makeup wipes I'm allergict to them so for about8/9 years I've been using expensive products I never breakout with shiesedo's products and elemis Dior and farmacy product s....... Once just to say I was so excited last year to by Italy's best brand vitamin C serum 30% 110€ got it put it on for 2 mornings and I was scratching and had that same rash as like the drug stores did maybe because it was 30 % vitamin C to strong ..cause I started using Perricone skincare and Thier vitamin C was 20 % not %30!!!
    Anyway sorry for the really long msg. But I wanted to tell you do I need all these products? Sorry I forgot to say I live in Italy and it's not easy for me to buy good American bands like yours!!!
    I love you notirium I trust you but shipping etc I don't know if it would be so expensive damn.ok thankyou for reading me Vanessa I also don't have a damn. Technique guy! Don't just slather it on. Layers -> less gray cast.
    That's how I put on Cotz and it really makes a difference (Though I'm a shade or two fairer than Julian). Still so far Cotz is the best I've found. No cast but too glossy too love and doesn't hold up water/sweat well at all. (CA heat wave. 115 degrees this week was the ultimate test!!)
    I just splurged (yesterday) on the UK brand BEA. ($61 with shipping!) Videos I watched made it look magical lol. I better be worth it! I wish I had seen this video first. I would have tried Ananya first for half the price. I'm also going to try Kinship, which looked to be in the Cotz range.

    What is the difference between a sunCREAM and a sunSCREEN?? Is it the same thing? Is the sun cream only for the summer and the high exposure to sun and so the sunscreen for daily use, even during winter?

    Are we going to have a SPF from Naturium?

    I am very fair, so white cast has never been an issue. I live in GA, and I am looking for a sunscreen that will not sweat off in 30 minutes or burn my eyes. I keep trying various brands looking for what works for me. I also have a family history of skin cancer.
    Suggestions for skin tones between you and Julian? I have a 17 year old niece who is Hispanic and some sunscreens leave a “purplish” tint on her skin.

      Try Shisedo's sunscreens. Clear finish & very long wearing. The blue bottles are super waterproof.

    I’m surprised you have never reviewed Colorscience! Great mineral sunscreens for many different skin tones. I love the Ilia serum, btw.

      Colorscience is terrible on deeper skin stones, even their tinted ones looks like someone painted my face gray, it's like no thought went into it for dark skin tones, and I'm like 1-2 shades lighter than Julian. And that's even with applying it a little at a time to try to reduce the white caste.

      @@aisoaification Ok. The bronze sunscreen works on me. My complexion is more dark rather than deep (Fenty 385). The other Colorscience sunscreens do not work for me.

      @@dancingpurpledogs I'm Fenty 440 to 445, you're no where near my skin color, colorscience doesn't look good on deep brown skin tones.

    I think the opportunity was missed to have a third person with really oily skin. Even better if they happen to wear makeup, just to have an idea if it's ideal for us oily folks, if the finish was greasy, if it played well with the formulation of your foundation etc.

    Nope. I use mineral sunscreens because I'm allergic to the "octyls" (there are several of them widely in use. Not a skin reaction, oddly enough, nausea, a rank taste in my mouth, digestive issues. So...mineral or nothing. Since I'm Fitzgerald Type I, I opt for as much mineral coverage as I can get.

    Susan, you’re being unfair to mineral sunscreens and the reasons why we pick them over chemical ones. A great deal of people pick mineral over chemical because chemical sunscreens BURN THE LIVING HELL OUT OF THEIR EYES, and I would argue this may be the MAIN reason why anyone picks mineral over chemical - not any clean beauty or environmental reason. This is a MAJOR flaw in chem sunscreens that make them simply impossible to wear for many of us. Of course they are more cosmetically pleasant. If I could I would only wear chemical ones. But the burning is real, and it is strong, and many times it’s not just around the eyes. I’m not a clean beauty parrot, I actually hate the fad, but chemical filters can be extremely difficult to deal with.
