I'd throw in two whose synopsises would appear to make them very similar movies, but really are completely different. One was rightly critically acclaimed, one wasn't but I think is a highly underappreciated classic. That's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Girl, Interrupted. They do have shared themes of adversity and friendship, but it's a good comparison of how one of the protagonists ultimately has to do things the hard way to be able to achieve what she wants in life, the other tries to take shortcuts and game the system before paying the ultimate price. Amélie is another good one here too - how loving and caring for others is all well and good, but before you can do that you have to be able to love yourself first.
I’ve seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest a few times but not for many years. Great film and suggestion. Haven’t seen Girl, Interrupted but I’ll check it out 👍
tom hanks’ “cast away” should totally be on this list. completely changed my perspective about living and made me appreciate the little things we all take for granted SO much more.
“About time” is a romantic one with a twist, friggin main buddy can time travel.. but I’ll tell ya, the perspective it gives on life really shows that you’ve gotta appreciate it while you’ve got it.
Hi!! I really like your videos, you are doing a great job since this apperared on my "recommended" youtube page, maybe you shoud add like time staps! Your description seems very profesional!
Thanks for the kind words and the feedback. I normally add timestamps but left them off just for this video as each item was so short. But will definitely keep that in mind for future videos 😊
I would like to submit 2 underrated entries: Life Itself and The Kindness of Strangers. I won’t say anything except if you haven’t seen either film you should really seek them out.
The one I really take issue with is The Pursuit of Happiness. It's a glorification of the American Dream masquerading as social critique and way too melodramatic for my taste. Certainly didn't enrich my life in any meaningful way. I'd replace it with Groundhog Day which embeds a profound message of compassion and humanity in a timeless comedy. A multi-layered story that was good fun when I watched it as a kid but revealed its true depth only when I watched it again as an adult.
It’s a fair point. I think it will resonate differently with everyone but I thought it was a nice movie overall. The fact it’s based on a true story adds some extra weight to the message imo. Groundhog Day is a great movie though. It’s as entertaining as it is profound and it’s very easy to rewatch. Appreciate the comment 👍
Are there any movies that have had a big influence on your life that’s not in this list?
Where is fight club
The first rule of Fight Club is: you don’t talk about Fight Club 🤫😉

Yeah that’s a great choice. Funnily enough I only watched it for the first time a few months ago. Very thought-provoking and bittersweet

Totally agree! It’s one of my favourite romcoms (if you can call it that). Great balance of comedy and meaning 👍

And add yellow! Idk if that works or smth but I binge a lot of videos like this and for some reason they always add yellow :)

You used clips from the sequel to inside out
Yeah you’re right. I’m going to pretend that it was completely intentional and it was a test. Congratulations, you passed 😂😅

Into the Wild and The Fundamentals of Caring
Good picks! I haven’t yet seen The Fundamentals of Caring yet but it’s on my list. Heard good things though 👍
