    Also, Money IF YOU'RE RICH Keeps You from Being Controlled by Tyrant Bosses and the world. If you have Good basic Health, Money ( Being Rich), WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY. Note to the Maker of this Video- You Can't Say Money Won't make you Happy , then Immediately Say lack of money causes Stress and bad health. IT'S NOT BOTH WAYS. IN GENERAL, MONEY DOES MAKE YOU HAPPY If You have A Good Heart and Don't Abuse People.

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well they are 2 different things, at least in the context of the video. A lack of money leads to stress because without enough to get by or feed your family, problems arise. Beyond the monetary threshold referenced in the video, happiness doesn’t tend to increase. The point is you need a certain amount of money to avoid a certain kind of unhappiness but being ‘rich’ has no impact on your overall happiness. A wealthy person with bad morals, values or unwise decision-making will spend their money on things that are counter-productive to their happiness. A person on an average salary with a healthy mindset and a balanced perspective won’t need much to live a happy life

      Yeah good point. While you could be earning enough to avoid financial stress, owning a property does bring several positive side effects, both individually and societally. It gives you something to protect and take pride in. I believe that crime and general life dysphoria would be massively reduced if young people had the ability to get on the property ladder. This is what modern governments should prioritise

    Sapiens, Man's search for meaning, Thinking fast and slow, The great gatsby, 1984 and Crime and Punishment. All these are definitely 10/10, totally worthy of being here. But The Alchemist, is a pile of low quality new age pseudo-mysticism. Its message is also in direct contradiction with every other book in this list. You can't believe "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. " and then read crime and punishment and think, yep, definitely. Or Sapiens, not to talk about 1984. Every other book in this list taught me taught me that if something is not going to happen is the universe conspiring for my desires

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah that’s a good observation around the different philosophy in The Alchemist. It did come into my thinking and I thought something more hopeful should be part of the list and the Alchemist is also very accessible. I also happen to believe in the idea that the universe will often give you anything you want but not everything. If you decide to prioritise one thing in life and pursue that with unwavering passion, often that will work out in some way. At what cost is another thing though. I’m planning on making another video in the future on my favorite books whereas this one is more about books that I think everyone should read. Thanks for the comment 👍

      Immediate downvote for recommending Sapiens, a simplification of history if ever there was one.

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Is there any other way of writing about history other than simplifying it? We can’t cover every event from every single persons perspective and this telling of history is very deliberately high level and over a long time frame. The point is that with this perspective, you can then specialise on another more specific aspect of history which is why I recommend everyone to read it. There are other books that do a similar thing like “Guns, Germs and Steel”

    Great video! I find the language learning apps particularly interesting. I have a question: Do you think these apps will still be needed in a few years, or do you believe that AI will soon overcome language barriers to the point where learning a foreign language will become unnecessary? I would love to hear your thoughts!

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! That’s a very good question. I think for a while there will be a constant evolution. As AI gets better, initially the apps will have to ensure that the their service offers more than what ChatGPT does. If they take the right approach this should be possible since they have the advantage of a dedicated platform for language learning (which will be complemented with AI). Ultimately though, these are just tools so if someone is serious about learning a language, they still need to put the time and effort in. Having the right tools merely reduces some of the psychological friction. Longer term, you’ll see a divergence. People who think that language learning is irrelevant won’t bother and will use an AI solution whereas others will still learn either for business, general interest, etc. Even if AI manages real time language translation, there is something inherently unnatural about this conversation style. Most people will appreciate the human interaction and connection of an organic conversation. Plus it’s a real show of intent within a business context. Imagine flying to Asia for example for a meeting and speaking their language as a British person. Overall though it’ll be interesting since as AI gets better, you could argue it’ll be less necessary to learn a foreign language while at the same time, it’ll become easier to learn.

    baseball should probably be one of the 5 hardest sports in the world, at least an honorable mention because it is easier to take down someone 100-150 lbs heavier than you than it is to hit a 95+ mph fastball that for 1, spins, and 2, it may be moving inside at you, or moving away from you both at the last second. Its a sport that you have to play to understand completely.

  • @Kraulfisch
    @Kraulfisch หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would never dare to rate sports in any form and now I know why. Rating skill cealing is just impossible. If you play any sports at the top level you will be practicing 24/7, no matter what sport. Ranking skill floor though is pretty cool, never thought about that. But putting Golf there, where the floor is basically just money seems a bit weird. Same goes for diving, because you need like a Pool and thats it, there you go. I would try to rate the sports as "How many can do it if they habe the equipment?". Skiing (in particular freestyle skiing) is definitly hard, ice hockey too. But on top would definitely be triathlon. How many people can swim nearly 4km, then cycle around 200 (?) km, and after that, running a Marathon??? This is just insane. Also any extreme Sports like skydiving have very high level entry floor

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the honest feedback. While I agree that rating by skill floor is easier, I think reducing certain sports like golf to just money is too simplistic. I was a caddy for many years as a teenager and I’ve seen every kind of golfer. Often wealthy people can overcompensate with expensive gear when in reality they just need to sort out the basics. Some of the best local golfers I know work minimum wage. When I think of skill ceiling, I think of mastering the subtleties like golf shots and things like chess which takes huge amounts of practice, refinement and usually talent too

  • @perfectblue8443
    @perfectblue8443 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I dont think you can do a top 10. All sports are hard, I dont think people realize how gifted AND how much you have to train to make it to the top, for basically all sports

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that all sports are tough in their own way, particularly at the top level. But that’s why I wanted to do the skill floor & skill ceiling breakdown. Some sports are harder to get the basics and others have such a high ceiling that simply practicing a lot isn’t enough. Something I didn’t really cover in this video is the talent vs environment concept. You could be Michael Jordan or Messi but without the right development pathway, you could end up a good player rather than one of the best ever.

    Deus ex series. I've played the 4 main games and just have loved them ever since the first back in 2001. Do still hope we can get the 5th that was planned but hard to say at this time.

    You should add in the Horizon games in here. But if you haven't played them yet YOU NEED TO DROP ALL OTHER GAMES AND GO PLAY THEM NOW :D As a massive (pun intended) Mass Effect fan I feel like storywise in terms of impact especially emotionally tone-wise it's the next Mass Effect trilogy. I'll bet a lot of money that a decade down the line a Legendary Horizon series would be released.

      @@dmorganso far the sequel has not let me down. The story itself is not as gripping but still well written, especially keeping in mind it being a device as a setup for the third installment. Many of the open questions from the first game are answered in a way that drives the plot nicely forward. As for the third installment I hope the ending will be more satisfying and less controversial than ME3's... As for gameplaywise... It's a complete upgrade :D I've always loved flying and let's just leave it at this; there is way more verticality in this installment ;D

    • @philovermyer6166
      @philovermyer6166 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrTheyoyoer Oh, you needed more? Life is Strange and Detroit: Become Human are visual novels. If simply interacting with a source of media is a game, then reading is a game or getting cash at an atm is a game. Just because you introduce elements of choice or some manners of interaction, the game doesn't cease with the opponent having won or lost because there is no opponent, it is a narrative that you are progressing through to whatever end the story's path chooses to go.

    • @dmorgan
      @dmorgan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally disagree that they aren’t games. I guess it depends on your definition of game but most games rely on controlling something, often a character and the success of that character, either in a score-based landscape or within a narrative is determined by you the player. In the case of the two games mentioned, they’re more than visual novels, although I get what you mean. Most novels are linear whereas these have different endings depending on how you play. As games are becoming more cinematic, I think the gap between game and interactive movie/story will shrink. Plus, you could argue the last of us is a visual novel too but if that’s the case then a huge proportion of games aren’t games 🤷‍♂️

    • @MrTheyoyoer
      @MrTheyoyoer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason that argument doesn’t interest me is because it seems more concerned with prescribing a technical definition rather than observing player behavior and how video games have expanded as a medium over time, and basing categorization off of that. I’m not even saying you’re necessarily wrong about these titles not being games, I’m saying it doesn’t make a practical difference when I, and I think many others, play them as if they were video games. By which I mean the experience of interacting with them is unlike anything outside of video games. I think it speaks more to how video games have evolved to include elements of interactive fiction (thereby possibly making the video game label outdated) than it does to a distinction between titles like these and titles that would be considered games more traditionally. I also think the examples you gave are very reductive. When you read a book or use an atm, there is usually only one course of action. Traditional visual novels also typically are linear. I’m not even just referring to making choices in the games you mentioned-there’s also the ability to explore a space, learn about the world by examining objects, finding additional dialogue that the player might miss if they dont proactively seek it out. These are things that distinguish a title like life is strange from any of your examples. So again, even if it doesn’t fit the definition of a game, I don’t think it makes a practical difference when video games have expanded past that definition as a medium, and so I don’t fault anyone who categorizes it as such

      Yea man. Silent Hill 2 deserves a nod. That choice to play the tape that shows you killing your wife is something isn't offered in any of these games you mentioned... FFX being brutally punished for searching for all of the aeons in the end. Knowing that Even though you spent all that time with Tidus he was just a fayth. So all that was more gut wrenching knowing to take in. A recent game Returnal. The character is in an unyielding death loop. The story is only given out in text logs, so every run has lore hidden in it.

      Xenoblade Chronicles got me started on story heavy games and to this day it and the other two entries in the series are what I consider to be among my favourite stories in all of fiction. They may take a while to get into, but once one clicks, there's nothing quite like them to me. Especially from an emotional standpoint their stories feature some of the best moments I've seen in any kind of media.

      The Eternal Cylinder has a very interesting way of developing the story by planting you in the world immediately without a sense of why the things in the game are the way they are. The story itself is very heart wrenching because it is set as a universal (literally the entire universe) threat destroys everything but the world that the game takes place on and throughout the game it is a mystery of how or even if the thing could be destroyed. Overall I think it has one of the best stories of any game I have played and the gameplay in itself is more focused on puzzle solving/making your playstyle work for the game.

    I'd throw in two whose synopsises would appear to make them very similar movies, but really are completely different. One was rightly critically acclaimed, one wasn't but I think is a highly underappreciated classic. That's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Girl, Interrupted. They do have shared themes of adversity and friendship, but it's a good comparison of how one of the protagonists ultimately has to do things the hard way to be able to achieve what she wants in life, the other tries to take shortcuts and game the system before paying the ultimate price. Amélie is another good one here too - how loving and caring for others is all well and good, but before you can do that you have to be able to love yourself first.

    The one I really take issue with is The Pursuit of Happiness. It's a glorification of the American Dream masquerading as social critique and way too melodramatic for my taste. Certainly didn't enrich my life in any meaningful way. I'd replace it with Groundhog Day which embeds a profound message of compassion and humanity in a timeless comedy. A multi-layered story that was good fun when I watched it as a kid but revealed its true depth only when I watched it again as an adult.

      It’s a fair point. I think it will resonate differently with everyone but I thought it was a nice movie overall. The fact it’s based on a true story adds some extra weight to the message imo. Groundhog Day is a great movie though. It’s as entertaining as it is profound and it’s very easy to rewatch. Appreciate the comment 👍
