Hi, Tom. I'm your customer with the cherry (IMHO) 2007 silver Tacoma 4X4 access cab, who just sold his grey 2008 Mazda 3s sport for a blue 2017 Passat. I love you guys. I have been a faithful customer since 2009 and recommend you to all my friends with zero regrets. Somehow I figured the Tundra and Titan would round out the top of your list.

I have my own OBD port scanner that I use to scan the car myself before I will consider buying it. Sales people get nervous when I do this and it's fun!

Boy, that’s a sweet looking 4Runner back there! Someone has babied that rig for well over 30 years.
One more tip I’d add for you guys to consider. If you boil it down to one particular make and model, drive several of them, if possible, and pay attention to the differences. When I bought my last used vehicle, there was one that really stood out as head and shoulders above the others from a driving perspective.
But as Tom said, don’t skip the pre purchase inspection though. That saved me once. Thank you, Tom.

I have a 2012 F150 3.5 Turbo EcoBoost. 306,000 miles and no major issues. Brakes, plugs, serp belt etc. love this truck to death. Would take it anywhere and I hope to get a lot more miles. Very strong running reliable truck. Great video and great content. Keep bringing more videos. Would be awesome to see day to day jobs in the shop !

Great video. I have to say though, you probably rank the F-150 as the worst truck on your list simply because it's the most sold truck in the US. Of course you will see more in the shop.

I try to buy used fleet trucks at auction. Usually maintained on schedule regardless of the driver, and they get rid of them at 100k miles with 100k miles left if you are willing to do some work yourself.

I'm on my 2nd Silverado and have enjoyed them. However, the new models with the auto start/stop and cylinder deactivation down to 2 cylinders stink. Another thing about the Silverado, although I haven't experienced it, is the rear-end. The owner and chief tech of an axle-repair shop near me says the rear-end of the Silverado's is prone to failures due to the design. He can almost guarantee that you will have a problem with it sooner than later.

Hi Tom, sounds like most of the F150's problems are EcoBoost engine related...right? That's why I am looking only at 2015 and newer F150's with the 5.0L V8 Coyote engine and preferably a 6r80 six-speed transmission.

Hi Tom, good advice from a Bonafide Expert in the business is always valuable and appreciated. Thanks for sharing: Regarding the F150, if you throw out the EcoBoost garbage, go with the 5.0L V8 Coyote and 6r80 transmission...wouldn't the 2013 to 2017 F150's rate a lot more respect? Still not in Tundra-land though I understand.

The only issue with a used Tundra is that you are looking at paying $30K+ for one without a 100K+ miles on it and in decent shape. Closer to $40K if it’s newer with low mileage. Obviously the older/higher mileage trucks will be cheaper. That’s why I’m considering just opting for a 3/4 gasser. Mainly just for pulling our travel trailer. My Tacoma ain’t cutting it ha.

, thermostat(NAPA). Tundra has a good reputation. I use youtube all the time, it takes time to find the right answer.

Toyotas are reliable but only if you maintain them to the letter or better. A used one would have to have meticulous records of proper maintenance for me to consider buying one.

At 7:28 - would a Ford F-150 move up substantially if it does not use an ecoboost (turbo) engine? I only ask because I'm looking at a 2002 F150 with 4.6 V8 SOHC with 240k miles. My other family cars are Toyota and Honda and I only buy non turbo.
