    Typically, the first thing we reach for to deal with acne is a lotion, potion, or cream to apply to the skin-and conventional medicine doctors frequently prescribe birth control pills. These approaches do not target the root cause of acne, however. A growing body of research suggests it’s not what we slather on our skin that matters most but rather what is going on inside our body.
    In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about acne-the number-one skin condition in the United States-and its effects on not just millions of teenagers but an increasing number of adults.
    This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens.

    wish I had been told this when I was a teenager (1970s). my dermatologist dismissed diet as a cause and put me on an antibiotic.

      That’s because they want you to have acne and mislead you and hoodwink you into thinking that you need their products. It’s a multibillion dollar business and they never learn any of the root causes of it

    I am allergic to wheat. Cutting that out was amazing. Face never liked better. But also cut dairy and sugar to almost none, and had a series of breakouts. I have an autoimmune disorder and am adding more greens. Trying to follow Wahls. I notice with each change I see improvement, then a bit of reversal. Each breakout leaves a dark spot and takes forever to heal.

    Dr. Hyman, please research raw milk. I learned so much from your podcast and TH-cam. I was acne-prone when I was unhealthy and still drink regular milk. Years later, I switched to grass fed raw milk and I have no issue with acne at all. Pasteurized milk = inflammation. Raw milk = nourishing.

    For such a long time I said sugar really messes with my skin, everyone thought I was crazy. I had horrible acne when I was a kid and continued into adulthood. When I cut sugar and eventually dairy my skin is better.

    There are different types of acne oil and stress and what you eat like cheeses. As a teenager I did many tests and ruled out chocolate a long time ago but now I'm enjoying the dry bitter taste of 100%. I did switch to go cheese instead of regular cheese too on my egg sandwich in the morning and hamburgers with whole grain bread and have limited any bread but especially white flour and why chefs around the world haven't experimented with at least whole wheat treats and roux makes me sad. I will try almond flour when I can $..
    I did switch to almond milk in coffee (chocolate) for now...

    I've been dairy, gluten and processed sugar free for 2 years now and I'm still having cystic acne.
    I also am completely sober ( no alcohol, smoking, etc ).
    I am also not taking any prescription medication like birth control or antibiotics
    I sleep 7 plus hours every night and work out several times a week
    can someone please make some suggestions because I truly feel hopeless at this point :( I dont understand why my skin is still inflamed even after making all these lifestyle changes

      Perhaps candida. Or perhaps hormones. Are you getting enough omega 3 and B vitamins? Zinc? Cutting things out is great but sometimes it’s a LACK of something that you need to add IN. But regardless, one of those red and blue light acne contraptions helps my persistent cystic acne.

      Look into possible infections ie parasite, mold/mycotoxin exposure from water damaged buildings, etc. Avoid bad cooking oils like seed oils. Unknown food allergy sensitivity or intolerance. Nutrient deficiency. Insufficient sun exposure and fresh clean air. Proper hydration and elimination.

      I agree with AW. Vitamins ADEK, Zinc, B5 and Omega 3. I wasn’t eating nearly enough protein without realizing it and therefore probably not getting enough fat soluble vitamins. Don’t forget vegetable beta carotene does not convert well at all to active vitamin A. Better to get from animal products but I do supplement bc like I said I don’t eat enough meat due to small appetite. Also if I don’t sleep, I get bad skin. My best resources are Dr. Berg and Team Acne on YT.

      Forgot: Red and blue lights WORK. Also for me, using PanOxl foaming wash 10% benzoyl peroxide as a MASK for 5 minutes in the shower helps a lot to kill the anaerobic bacteria. That is from Dr Dray.

    Please don't take this as an insult, there are so many health gurus out there. I am honestly asking this question. If I go back a few years say to the (The Link Between COVID, Inflammation, and Aging, Dec 22, 2020) video you look like you have aged 10+ yrs since then and also suffered some sort of stroke on the right side of your face. What happened? If you speak on all of these health topics why does it not seem to be helping you? Are you doing too much, causing a reverse reaction? If you have health issues be honest about them. I do wish you well.

    • @johnolaoluwa
      @johnolaoluwa ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, if I may make an input. When someone in his 50s does not shave, he looks much older than he truly is. White hair, especially facial hair has a way of making you look aged. Just imagine him shaven and he would look different again - younger.

    • @candicecane5432
      @candicecane5432 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnolaoluwa actually mark is in his 60's. and to add to your input, he has been in the sun a lot more and that causes wrinkles

    • @johnolaoluwa
      @johnolaoluwa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@candicecane5432 Incredible! That means even with the sun, he's still ageing well. The black skin deals better with the sun, so if he were black you would probably not see any or much fewer wrinkles. I thought he was in his slightly late 50s, around 57, he's doing well. @Gartfam 7, I hope you got your answer with other people's observations. God bless.

      Can you imagine how many things he needs to deal with? Patients/videos/conferences/social life/family life. Their tips work, but you should also consider their style of life - which can impact them too, even if they follow all the advice. It’s energy draining. He looks great. He is not obese, in a great state of mind, still share his knowledge with people. It’s very inspiring 😊
