What a difference the narration makes to how I enjoy these tales. Frank Muller who narrated the previous stories brought them to life. This guy however, made this novel a struggle for me 😔
I kind of agree with you. His voice is perfect as LeStat. He comes off as good postured, snappy tone with his chin high and exudes confidence as LeStat would. Yet his narration of everything else sounds like a 1930s radio station. "Watch out for that Memnoch, he's a bad egg!"
I agree. I don't enjoy saying the things I feel about this voice but I cannot tell the different characters apart. I'm always going wait was that lestat or memnoch. now I'm at the part with Micheal in it. thank you to the reader I really appreciate you helping me get through this book. wow I really hope we get to find Mayfair witches, lasher and Talos Daniel your the best. maybe Anne will slip you a file into your phone one day with some of her husband's poems. that would be a next level surprise!
Daniel, despite our distaste for the story, we appreciate your making it available! You did not write it, or narrate it, or record it. So you take no blame. Just thanks :)
@DonWuzHere It's so boring Not enough about Lestat or the vampires Lestat didn't seem like himself Too drawn out I don't appreciate Biblical fiction. At all. Not at all. I don't appreciate Biblical speculation I didn't appreciate fiction saying Biblical accounts are skewed, inaccurate, deceitful, or lacking perspective. The relationship with The Devil and Lestat was muddled and unclear. Though, it seemed clear at first, the letter he wrote to Lestat when he returned his eye was not really discernible and muddied the waters too much It really wasn't even discernible what made Lestat so scared and unsupportive. He's seen horrors before and he seemed to agree with The Devil in every turn, so his sudden abandonment of the idea was far too jarring. The pacing was was also jarring Roger and Dora felt shoehorned into the story, so much that if they were removed the story wouldn't have changed. The way that Rice just writes characters in and out of Lestat's life so abruptly is off-putting and came to a head in this book -- since it's been building in all the others -- and finally popped in my face It felt like she was just using her characters to write a story about God and The Devil that didn't mesh at all with the rest of her universe. They were just an excuse to shove an idea to the face of an already captive audience. -- I also feel this way about her husband's poetry that she puts into her books like mismatched patchwork This story will likely be of no consequence in the rest of the saga. I don't know that for sure, but I can imagine that the only important factor of this story might be that Lestat drank Jesus's blood. And considering he's had so much powerful blood already that is also probably inconsequential. Especially since no time is devoted to making Jesus seem especially powerful. This is just another story of Lestat asking his friends if he should do something, ignoring them, and then regretting it. Just like everything else. If I re-listened, I could remember more reasons I didn't like it. But that's a telling list. My opinion may not be worth anything, but it is what it is. And what it is is my very strong opinion.
I think now what I thought when I read it in the late 90s, as fantastic as the previous 4 novels are, this is a truly philosophical work and one of the best interpretations of God and the devil I've ever read. Cheers 🍻
This Was a good book for sure...."Servant Of The Bones" was awesome...might be my favorite......Memnoch The Devil, The Vampire Lestat, & Servant of The Bones are my favs.
For me, the problem with this narration is that I can't always tell apart Memnoch from Lestat from the narration.. the voice stays pretty much the same
I am having a hard time, struggling to stay interested. I love Anne Rice novels, Never read this one though. I don't know if it's the story or the narration that's killing this. I am committed, however, to see it thru until the end. I just don't think I'll retain much.
I was told that Memnoch the Devil was written when Anne was sober and found religion. It's very different from her other books for this reason. I know several die hard fans who can't stand this book because of how different it is from her other work. But idk if that's really the reason why.
This might be the most heretical work of fiction ever written. Lestat literally drinks gods blood. Like clearly Anne was going through some faith crisis things when writing this story. But my biggest gripe it doubles back on previously established things. Like that early humans were cannibalistic and ate their dead to honor them. And it's so weird of God to come down in the age of Rome and recreate a Greek myth like wtf is that about.
We're the Vampire books & Witching Hour books ever crossed? I stopped reading these books a while ago. It would be intresting if they had been crossed.
Yes I read a book called taltos or something like that. It was about a different species of human that lived a long time and from what I remember it mentioned the witches and lestat I’ve never read the witch series Rice wrote but I distinctly remember Lestat being mentioned and witches.
I read both series and I Loooove the Mayfair witches ❤ They crossed in Merrick (2000), Blackwood Farm (2002), and Blood Canticle (2003). I think I read everything she wrote, including books she wrote under the name Anne Rampling and A. N. Roquelaure.
I can't take this narrator seriously as lestat. He's ruined the vibe of the story, there's no feeling and he reads it too fast. Thanks for posting it though!
@@samanthacharlton4123the next few books are definitely a return to form imo, they go back to the autobiographical format of telling individual vampires stories. Pandora, The Vampire Armand, and Blood & Gold are highlights in the series
I know this is fiction but shoving these false prophets and ideological misinformation into this series has made it hard if not unbearable to listen to. Everyone is welcome to their own ideals no matter how wrong
I find it gives another look from Memnoch perspective. Of course its fiction, but so may be the Bible . We don't really know , some ppl think it all facts and truth, but what if is only part truth and part lies. Or what if was just away to control ppl. Remember once apon a time just to reject the teaching of the Bible could get you burn at the stake or or killed in some torture way. How many have died because they refused to follow the catholic church.
What a difference the narration makes to how I enjoy these tales. Frank Muller who narrated the previous stories brought them to life. This guy however, made this novel a struggle for me 😔
Frank Muller was amazing. It will be hard to find someone to match his capabilities.

This is just a boring book. No narrator could save it. I do appreciate that it's available. Thanks for that.
I love that it has a vintage feel to it. It's just different.
My favorite book in the series so far. Thank you! Playing it at .75x speed makes it more dark and vibey with this narrator.
Daniel, despite our distaste for the story, we appreciate your making it available!

Thank you so much for this of these. I cant wait for Armand !
trying to get through this book as an atheist is a tough one 😭 but for lestat, i will do anything.
Thanks a lot for all the books! This vampire universe lives in my head for free, thanks to you.
This isn't my favorite book of the chronicles but thank you for posting this.
If you drop the playback speed one notch it's alot less abrasive. Sounds more spooky and deliberate.
Is the Vampire Armand available? ✨
For me, the problem with this narration is that I can't always tell apart Memnoch from Lestat from the narration.. the voice stays pretty much the same
Thanks!!! More books please😘😘😘
Daniel, will you be continuing the series at any point?
This is one of my fav books in the series but now I know what Morty (rick and morty) felt like when he had to listen to that "Light House guy's" tale.
Thanks for this no matter whò is narrating
The dialogue starting at 4:05 is startling!! most come here and forget who they really are.
Love your voice

Can you do pandora next please?
I was waiting to hear how the chains held him. somehow I remember reading the chain was made from Marharetts braided hair. anyone else remember this?
Maharet uses iron chains braided with her hair to chain up Thor and Lestat.

It takes a while to get used to the pace of the story. Nevertheless, once you start you cannot stop.
When you get your half a job uncle to read to you.........

Way too much dialogue and very little adventure. Definitely my least favorite installment

Not sure if I'll spend my time on the next books
