Great show. Have you, Pete, considered ever doing a raking of Type O Negative? The reason for I am asking is I think there for sure would be albums in their catalog, which I imagine you would enjoy, despite it’s somewhat difficult music a times, but you are no stranger to that - case and point here.
I've heard of this band, but never checked them out until now. "Clearing the Path to Ascend" is now on its way to my house. I'm sometimes in the mood for bleak...
The band that best represents Oregon imo, Red Fang is a close second. A buddy of mine here locally in Portland introduced me to YOB roughly 15yrs ago. Doom, Proggy, Sludgy and Psychedelic and some Drone best describes them.
It's easy: 1.The Illusion of Motion (even though it's not the better produced one) 2. The Unreal Never Lived 3. Catharsis 4. Clearing the Path to Ascend 5. Elaborations of Carbon 6. The Great Cessation 7. Atma 8. Our Raw Heart
I have no desire to re-listen to their entire catalog right now, partly cuz I'm cramming 2024 albums into my brain in preparation for the year-end summary, but also, I can only take so much sludge psych in one sitting. That said, cool band, I like them and Neurosis, but love beyond reason Ufomammut. 1. Clearing The Path To Ascend 2. The Great Cessation 3. Catharsis 4. The Unreal Never Lived 5. Our Raw Heart 6. The Illusion Of Motion 7. Atma 8. Elaborations Of Carbon
Tricky band to categorise; sorta sludge / doom / stoner territory but with a serious Rush kick - big long ambitious songs... The Unreal Never Lived is my favorite, I think Mike really figured it out on that album. Are we inching closer to a Neurosis ranking? (Crosses fingers)
Thanks, Pete and Jamie, for this Ranking episode. Another band completely unknown personally before SoT made the introduction. Listened to your top choice and really enjoyed it. Will be listening to some others. This is in one of the veins of music that never really listened to many bands before coming to SoT but have found so much to enjoy in the doom et al category. The neighbors are not always too crazy about it when it is played while working out in the yard, but no requests to turn any off so far. They'll be hearing Yob next. Thanks again.
I disagree that you have to be into doom metal to like these guys. I don’t listen to much doom metal other than Yob and Sleep. I first heard Mike on Red Fang’s third record in a song Dawn Rising. I couldn’t figure out at first why this song was so much better than the rest of album until I looked in the liner notes and saw they had a guest vocalist. I am more of a Prog guy, but I love Yob. Mike uses a thumb pick and his fingers that makes him different and the band different from everybody else.
Really enjoyed the show. I only own one from them - "Our Raw Heart". Not an every day listen but it hits the spot when the mood is right. I`m a big "doom" fan so I can see myself checking out more of their catalog. Thanks for some good descriptions.
My top 5 -
1. Catharsis
2. Clearing the Path to Ascend
3. Atma
4. The Great Cessation
5. Our Raw Heart
Hey, Pete! Congrats on the 100 thousand subscribers!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
New album coming
Where’d you hear that?
@Waymond666 weedian
Greetings from Eugene- got to see Yob in a small bar last year and they rattled the roof off
Nice to get this ranking. Long time friends that I've managed to see dozens of times over the last 25 years. You really can't go wrong with any of it!
I love Jamie's description of the music. Great show ! Hey, it's snowing outside .....
Sounds pretty cool. Appreciate this and looking forward to checking out the gloom and despair!
All time favourite Doom metal band! (after Sabbath of course) and one of my all time favourite bands in general, Yob is love Yob is life!
Great show.

To be honest, I"m not a fan.
@ Fair enough 😅
Type O are / were, one of the best metal bands on the planet.
@@jamesbonar5927I’m sure for some. Their music doesn’t move me much at all.
Yessssss!!!! Been hoping for this 1. Love most, but depends on my mood sometimes. Overall that Atma remaster just tops it, Great Cessation also❤❤
Hey folks I'm from Roseburg. Nice to see a new band from my neck of the woods
I’d love to see a conversation on Inter Arma. If you like Yob, you should definitely check them out.

I don't think this music is for me, but I enjoyed the show and your discussion of it a lot.
Ranking the rod Stewart solo albums only. Or is it too long?
Never owned a single one of them!
@@seaoftranquilityprog oh sorry.

Pete, is there any possibility of ranking the albums of The Muggs and Howlin' Rain?
Never listened to them.
Yob is love

Cool show, how about the Swedish doomsters Monolord at some point.
Incredible that even I would myself put The Illusion of Motion at the end, it's an awesome creation

Reveal hidden beauty within the despair, awesome Jamie
Great show; had heard of the band but didn't know much about them.
Also, isn't Yob supposed to be an short for You're Only Bored?
