One week before moving out of my house, the garage door opener quit working. I figured out the carriage needed to be replaced, found this video and ordered the part. Changed it myself and it works! if an 80 year-old woman can do this, anyone can. Thank you!
My opener was so painfully loud that we stopped using the garage. We were looking at new garage doors for $4,000.The new carriage cost $20.00. I did the repair in 15 minutes and it worked perfectly and quietly. THANK YOU!
Thanks for this! Perfect instructions. I just finished the replacement on mine and it took about 5 minutes. The most difficult part for me was messing with the cotter pin
Thanks for the refresher! Great detail and explanations. I did do this 15 years ago but not much left in the memory bank. This time I could have gotten the carriage free from Genie (lifetime warranty) but last time it was $6 for FedX ground shipping. Decided to go with next day from Amazon for $25 (genuine part) although the aftermarket there is $15. Otherwise I would have been the automatic part of the garage door opener.
you might want to have the spring tension checked if its not set right it will put a lot of strain on the teeth making it fail quickly, also the motor.
THANK YOU, so much as a single woman with no money this was a real blessing, found this video after praying a short prayer after watching many others videos with no luck, all glory to GOD.
Mine just started that noise last night. With mine though when opening the garage it stops right before reaching the unit and makes that grinding noise. I pushed back on the carriage and can see there’s a .25” space of the screw that’s missing teeth/threads. Do I have to replace the entire track?
I had to replace the limit stop. The little paper clip lookin arm that engages the stop was broken off. Still making that noise so I’m pretty sure it’s the carriage, I’ll replace that tomorrow. Thanks for posting your help videos!
Thank you sir, I was about to start this replacement and thought, geez been 10 yrs, how is this done again for real so I don't start taking $h!t off that I didn't have too 😂
I have similar genie screw drive opener. My problem is it gos up half way or so then stops. Like it gets hot and turns off. Is that something I can fix??
Hi, the craftsman’s trolley has another rack (their terminology) that’s actually touching the screw, does the genie have that also? Craftsman sells the trolley and rack as separate parts, trying to save money.
@@RobbersVblog I downloaded the manual, the craftsman has aoother part, it’s a toothed rail that meshes with the screw gear/rod, and the trolley attaches to that.
I followed your instructions, only I'm not able to slide the carriage off at that end of the rail. The rail has been closed off. It looks like the only thing I can do is take the rail off at the other end and try to do it from that end. I just finished replacing the screw drive coupler, where the carriage had gotten jammed. That took all afternoon, now I've got the rail disconnected at the other end only to find out that the carriage can't exit that end. Sheesh, I figured a couple hours. These things are great when they work..........
It should slide off the end at the door..are you sure you have the disconnect lever pulled all the way down for disconnect? If it got jammed up you might have to force it or even break it to get it off but they should slide over that end of the rail..
@@RobbersVblog I went back at it with a fresh start. I thought that the extruded rail had been blocked off at the end. it was just some residual thin metal 'skin' left from when it had been cut to size. The carriage slid right through it. I'm not sure why it wouldn't slide out the day before, maybe there wasn't enough clearance. I disconnected the rail at both ends so I could raise it enough to be clear of everything. It's back together working! The original problem was. that the llimit switch didn't stop it so it jammed into the end of the rail at the motor control housing. Anyway,, I appreciate you responding with helpful ideas, Thx!
I figured it out. I disconnected the rail at both ends, which game me plenty of room to slide the rail off. The rail appeared to be closed off, but it was only a thin sheet of metal left from when it had been cut to size.. It's all back together, working!
Make sure you slid the carriage over the end of the track and it slides freely when the engagement lever is pulled down.. the lever should be facing the motor.. then push up on the lever till it’s all the way up and it should engage.. if not try hitting the button to turn the screw while you push up on the lever just make sure the door is not attached when you do that…let me know if this helps!!
@@Maximus01776www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HRSLQ6H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Amazon..it was like 12 bucks, just do a search for genie screw drive carriage and it should pop up they are pretty much all the same.
I ordered the new part and did everything as shown but the carriage won’t engage into the drive. Like when you flip the metal peice it doesn’t stay. Help
you might have to push up on the piece to make sure its all the way up then move the door a bit it might not be in the right place to engage. Also make sure its facing the right way and on the track right. it should work if everything is right.
I am sure The ( "thank you so much" is appreciated )..... but honestly "we all" who learned and took advantage from the video , should compensate him at least with $5 or $10 bucks ( it ABSOLUTELY worth it ) just by the amount of money he helped us to save in repairs ............ ( with the $50 dollars "show Up Fee" and the $100 repair ) it could have been at least $150.00 ) to call someone to repair the garage door .........So let's show some real appreciation .....who knows, he may show us some shower valve replacement too :) and save us a plumber$$ visit
have the spring tension checked..its probably not set right causing extra stress on the teeth. you should be able to lift and lower the door with only 1-2 fingers if its to heavy to lift or comes down fast the springs are not set right. Also make sure it is greased!!
This was helpful, however on mine the bar with the worm drive ends closer to the wall and the big spring is higher up. No amount of going to the side, up or down, will allow the new trolly to get slid in. seems like id have to drop the entire thing from the motor and the wall in order to slide it in. Sigh..
also check your track you might be able to just remove a couple of bolts in the middle of it to disassemble it from there instead of dropping the motor..
This video was exactly what I needed to fix my daughter's garage door, thanks for posting this.

It just slides off the end of the rail after you disconnect it.

The part that you pull down to engage it is missing on mine. Is that replaceable ?
It’s part of the carriage assembly so you have to buy the part..

Could be a faulty limit switch..also check to make sure your spring is not broke...disengage the door and see if you can raise and lower it easily..
Thank you sir! Very helpful!

Do you have to grease the new trolley before installing?
Not really but it wouldnt hurt to put a little on it!
Is that an 2008 accord
Hi, the craftsman’s trolley has another rack (their terminology) that’s actually touching the screw, does the genie have that also? Craftsman sells the trolley and rack as separate parts, trying to save money.
The Genie one snaps up into the screw...not sure how the Craftsman one works..
