When the composer Takashi Tateishi started making music for this game, he was originally doing "cute" music, but the director told him to do "cool" music instead. The one song that survived that cute phase... Crash Man. (Also he didn't even know how popular the game or his music was until like a decade ago.)

It'd be oddly fitting if Wood Man's stage were geographically closer to Wily's castle than any of the other starting stages. Not just for location practicality or atmosphere, but the forest itself would probably be the only sort of garden that could satisfy someone like Dr. Wily. :

Mega Man 2 is one of those childhood games with suuuuuuch great music. I still listen to it to this day. The bosses theme when they are powering up still get me excited.

And they just kept pushing the technical limits of NES's sound and graphics capabilities with each game in the series, as well as the precision of the controls, powers, and hit detection. It's literally impossible to match the levels of optimization games reached on the NES and SNES late in their cycles with any systems that have come since, and the systems of the same time and earlier as well. Some game developers just went in so hard.
The funny thing is I actually think MM2 isn't even the hardest NES era game and it doesn't even come close in the amount of bullshittery and jank to games like X6 lol

Guys I dunno if you realize this but Dr Wileys alien is weak to bubbles because its not an alien, when the lights turn on its actually a little circuit thingy thats projecting an alien, and the bubbles are what short-circuit the machine...

Yesss! Finally, streamers are playing MM2 with the proper difficulty! For the Quick Man fight: If you're low on Crash Bombs, or don't have them, you can use Air Shooter, which does equivalent damage to the Mega Buster, but has a much better area of attack and can hit Quick Man when he's in the air.
I'm really happy about this! I mean, I don't mind going to Twitch to watch Max' playthroughs but it's just a pain every time to identify which video I need to watch, and if it's the correct one I need to scroll trough the video to find the start of the playthrough. Way more convenient having them on TH-cam like this!
Mega Man with Metal Man's power was the peak of Mega Man, he would never have that power ever again. The ability to just delete 80% of the enemies and bosses, and doing it in almost any direction...perfection.

Because we Western gamers were LIED TO and thought Normal really was normal with Difficult just being a bonus, thus most of our memories are based on Normal. In fairness, though, the game isn't well-play balanced because it barely had any time to be tested. Too bad most of the BS comes from stuff that doubling one's attack power can't offset.

You have a level of patience with these old school games that a lot of other content creators don't have, and it sets you apart IMO. The secret to beating the turret boss in wily 4 is to use spam the pause menu when the turrets flash (about to shoot), and don't stop until the bullets safely pass through you.

He was ridiculously hasty with those leaves. Probably too stream-conscious. Same with the Item 3 through the gap in Wily 4 LOL. He took two seconds to try to save two seconds and ate piss for it. And, no, Max, you can't die after just touching the checkpoint, you have to die PAST it. How do you expect the game to remember your past THAT well? Memory's precious.
I would love to see Max do a co-op run of that fangame, Megaman 2.5D. The diffuculty of getting in your buddies way while jumping over gaps/bosses adds to the challenge lol.
While this game didn’t have the “pause damage multiplier” like the first game, it did have an unintentional invincibility maneuver where you pause and unpause and projectiles will go thru you and not hurt you. It’s the easiest way to avoid the beams of the boss fight in Wily Stage 4.
Awesome that you're doing this. It's hard for me to catch a lot of your streams right now because of my schedule but I'd love to see a lot more playthroughs from the past. For instance - I'd love to see the Dark Souls 3 playthrough at some point.
I played this constantly growing up. My first Mega Man game and my second Capcom game after DuckTales, I absorbed so much Nintendo Power strategy info before even purchasing the cart (and yes I also heard Airman should be the first stage to beat which proves to be BS). I also didn’t play Hard Mode until way later. So many memories watching you play (and futilely yelling at you with trivia answers or solutions). Even with iconic elements like Rush, Proto Man, the Slide/Dash, and the Mega Buster Charge, this game still feels complete and as perfect as can be.
As long as you're farming health along the way, Air Man's not that bad to Buster if you're constantly shooting, even outside Western Normal. Still sucks that it's a battle of attrition, but it's still easier than Quick Man or Crash Man.
The boss order I follow is: Flash Man -> Heat Man -> Air Man -> Crash Man -> Quick Man -> Metal Man -> Bubble Man -> Wood Man. Once you get Item 1, you can use it on Air Man's stage to get through the floating heads faster & use Flash Stopper after the first blue wolf in Wood Man's stage to stop the other 2 from spawning.

I think that, like many gamers of my vintage, Mega Man 2 was the first Mega Man game we came across as the original didn't do so well in the US. It remains one of my favourites in the series and I like to go back to it every once in a while (I still have my original NES I bought in 1987). There's just something about an 8-bit Mega Man game that brings a smile to my face.
King shit this type of content is missing from TH-cam and if you brought it then even better. Quality games from someone who appreciates them and is amicable.
My order since the 80s was Metal Man, Bubble Man, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Quick Man, Heat Man. This is far and away my favorite game of all time.
I wish I grew up with Megaman games. Even the very old games look very good. My very first game was Battle Network 5 on the DS and played the Zero/ZX collection.
Couple of things about the final boss: Bubble Lead is the ONLY weakness. I once took the health down to one and decided to get dramatic and use every weapon to tease the final blow, only to be shocked that any other shot instantly heals the boss. Also I’ll admit it took years for me to get the story of the final boss: Wily turning into an alien and fighting him in space is merely an illusion that would make Mysterio proud.

I think that, like many gamers of my vintage, Mega Man 2 was the first Mega Man game we came across as the original didn't do so well in the US. It remains one of my favourites in the series and I like to go back to it every once in a while (I still have my original NES I bought in 1987). There's just something about an 8-bit Mega Man game that brings a smile to my face.

I legit gasped when Max went back to stage select.
My order since the 80s was Metal Man, Bubble Man, Wood Man, Air Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Quick Man, Heat Man. This is far and away my favorite game of all time.

My very first game was Battle Network 5 on the DS and played the Zero/ZX collection.
Getting all the secret stuff in battle networks was such a pain, but worth it once you hit multi-player. Lol

Couple of things about the final boss: Bubble Lead is the ONLY weakness. I once took the health down to one and decided to get dramatic and use every weapon to tease the final blow, only to be shocked that any other shot instantly heals the boss.
Also I’ll admit it took years for me to get the story of the final boss: Wily turning into an alien and fighting him in space is merely an illusion that would make Mysterio proud.
I watched this entire video cause Mega Man 2 was and still is a childhood favorite of mines on the Nintendo 🥺🥺 tha memories man,them good ol childhood memories 😢👏🏿👏🏿🤟🏿😊
While I do love this game, I kinda think the boss weaknesses are a bit skewed in favor of the Metal Blade. So, here's a rework I thought of:
-Metal Man < Atomic Fire
-Wood Man < Metal Blade / Atomic Fire
-Air Main < Leaf Shield
-Crash Man < Air Shooter
-Flash Man < Crash Bomber
-Quick Man < Flash Stopper
-Bubble Man < Quick Boomerang / Metal Blade
-Heat Man < Bubble Leas
The neverending story of Max making things unnecessarily hard for himself. And I'm not talking about choosing "difficult". Fun playthrough though.

Of course Mega Man 2 was on difficult, and I can tell you Quick Man, Wood Man, and Crash Man can be pretty hard!
Btw, the instructions booklet does recommend Air Man under “Getting Started!”
You say Mega Man 2 kicked your ass, but finishing Quick Man's stage without using the Time Stopper is fairly impressive already...
