  • THIS IS MY 2019 TAO TAO HELLCAT, FIRST OFF I’D LIKE TO SAY THAT EVEN THOUGH I MENTIONED RIDING DURING THIS PANDEMIC. I ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO STAY SAFE, AND HEALTHY . ABIDE BY YOUR STATE AND THE FEDERAL GUIDELINES WHEN IT COMES TO STAYING HOME. I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT ILLINOIS HAS A LOOSE STAY AT HOME ORDER IN PLACE. I MADE SURE WHILE RIDING I DID NOT CONGREGATE WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE. MY RIDE TIME WAS SHORT, AND I MADE SURE TO MAINTAIN A DISTANCE OF 6 FEET OR MORE WHEN NEEDED. STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY GUYS!
    This is the first ever vlog for this Channel! Pretty stoked to have you guys join me as my channel grows. I tried keeping this as short as possible. My goal wasn’t to bore you, but rather give you some insight on these clones.

    Ive had a grom before but if I was to get another it would be a clone. Speaking from a modding perspective you can buy a whole pit bike engine for pretty much the same cost as just a bigger grom cylinder. Anything for the grom is like +++ $$$ just because its a grom. Even basic consumables such as brake pads. When i wanted those I bought CBR 125 pads instead as they are the same but much lower cost.

    Short answer: No
    Long answer: They can be overall good bikes if you replace every part on the bike that isn't the best of quality and go through the bike with a fine tooth comb. They're a lot of fun but a lot of times they're a hassle. Even then you have to constantly be worrying about quality control on these bikes and when something is going to break. As someone who has owns 2 groms, Mt09 and a YZ250 with around ~150k miles on the saddle of riding experience plus dirt bike experience, I can tell you, having that ease of mind is so worth paying a little extra even if you have to wait another year to start riding.

    • @darkowlmoto
      @darkowlmoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I respect that. But coming from someone jo who’s owned a handful of Chinese bikes an MT07 and R3 and a Suzuki sv1000 these for the price (at the time) we’re well worth it. And all I had to do realistically was replace a engine mount bolt and carburetor. It was my decision to replace more just because the ease and fun factor of working on such a simple easy bike. It clocked in with over 30k miles before I ended up selling it. It’s still on the road just a few years later. Depends on how you ride them and take care of them. I had zero problems and having said that I bought 3 more Chinese bikes with no issues. I will say now due to supply and demand they are not worth the price as they have gone up. Better off to buy a grom for the price of these clones. But I disagree at the time they were worth it. And about several thousand people would agree in the clone groups who also own groks and other bikes. Just depends on the person.

    • @EdwardVelez
      @EdwardVelez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darkowlmoto Agreed, they can definitely be good bikes. I was using it as a general statement. They're somewhat coming down again. Boom Vader is now only $1500. Still though, if a buddy of mine asked me I'd say the same thing. Maybe people buy them to try to save money but I'd rather have the peace of mind than always having that shadow hanging over me. Plus, I got my second grom for $3800 with 500 miles with chimera intake, exhaust and ecu tune and dynojet reader. That and I have the reliability and build quality of Honda. That's why I don't generally recommend it.

    • @darkowlmoto
      @darkowlmoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EdwardVelez oh without a doubt quality over anything. And a decent warranty. For a newbie just getting into bikes in general and little to no know how I’d recommend steering clear for sure. I agree 100%. Come spring I think I’m going with another Chinese bike BUT it’s a show stopper and a damn good one! Cfmoto’s clx-sport 700. It’s comparable to an MT07. On paper it’s the same. But it is several grand cheaper. Has several top tier parts like dual front brembos, cruise control, and eco and sport modes. A dealer local to me has all of CFmotos line up and in person they are BEAUTIFUL.

    Hows the gearing on the bike? I bought mine today after having an auto similar to the ssr razkull. For starters the clutch gets engaged with the first gear. Boom click down first gear. My problem is that it does not go slightly to neutral in fact it doesn't engage at all. With some acceleration and wiggle from the clutch itself is when it finally engages neutral is that something you had trouble with ?

    • @darkowlmoto
      @darkowlmoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While the notorious neutral seems more prominent in these Chinese clones, I will say usually it depends on the adjustment of your clutch cable which can be done right at the clutch lever. Too much or too little slack can cause shifting to be a pain in the ass. But to answer your question in short No I didn’t have issues really. But again failed neutrals are a thing sometimes with these bikes. Me specifically I had no issues and if I did I just recommend adjusting the clutch cable correctly. Hope this helps!
