    Agreed many reviewers don’t give the bike justice. I’ve beat the crap out of mine on single track with tight trails and it’s done so well…broken/worn out the cheap part and upgrading as they fail. Nothing major too far, just stuff you’d expect.

    • @trancewinston1027
      @trancewinston1027  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's good to hear. I do hardly any mileage, just blast around really. Time will tell what breaks but personally i'm very conscious of letting off pressure on the pedals when i change gear, to relieve a bit of the pressure. I can't feel exactly what the 'gear sensor' does, but i assume it's helping to remove gear change stress.

    • @benjamnb
      @benjamnb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trancewinston1027 I saw that "gear sensor" for sale as an extra, what the heck does it do and you think its worth getting?

    • @benjamnb
      @benjamnb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nvmd found it on google "The Gear Sensor momentarily cuts motor power to the Bafang BBS02/BBSHD mid-drive motors when shifting. It mounts inline with the shifter cable and detects the cable movement and sends a signal to the controller to cut motor power while shifting gears."

    • @trancewinston1027
      @trancewinston1027  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benjamnb Mine has the gear sensor but I’m not sure how effective it is at protecting the drivetrain. I prefer to just take pressure off the pedals or throttle, momentarily each time I change gear.

    • @benjamnb
      @benjamnb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trancewinston1027 I have a cheap hub drive ebike and changing gears doesnt seem to affect the motor at all, is that because the motor just spins the back wheel on a hub drive without interacting with the drive train? (still very new to ebikes)

    Great vids my man, keep em' coming. Mines on a boat somewhere, but I have a Grin Cycle Satiator charger and was curious what adapter I need to order so i can charge the FREY EX PRO? What does end look like that plugs into bike battery (Xlr, 2.5DC, 3 pin, etc). Any help will be appreciated!

    I have the Frey ex , I've done 2000 miles and the bike has done 3300 miles ( I bought it second hand ).
    I rarely use full power because it does drain battery pretty fast and I tend to do quite long rides of 30 to 50 miles with a mix of downhill and flat trails but when I want the power it is there and lots of fun.
    The weight of the bike when it falls on you is not nice , I got my leg trapped and had a bit of trouble getting out but no damage.
    I love this bike, I was thinking of getting the beast but would be a bit pointless having even more power.

      What range can you get in full power mode roughly

    • @FlyingFun.
      @FlyingFun. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@missilemick never actually tried but I would guess about 20 miles I went fast all the time in full power mode.
      It really does depend on too many factors though, different terrain, different rider weight, temperature, tyre pressure etc all have a big affect.
      I'm around 12 stone and fairly fit and ride off road with moderate hills.

  • @ArthurDentZaphodBeeb
    @ArthurDentZaphodBeeb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video. Not many vids of true offroading on Frey bikes.
    Have the AM1000. First thing I did was get rid of the throttle because it was completely unnecessary. Ride most everywhere in level 2 - level 5 is overkill and no pedalling needed - which is antithesis of what riding is all about. And level 5 eats the battery - for me, something like 1% every minute (I like longer rides). Only time I use level 5 is absurdly steep climbs or if I'm on roads and want to keep up with traffic. The Ultra motor eats chains if you're not careful with gear changes. For the money, can't be beat. Puts all the big name 500W euro-spec bikes (at 2+x the price) to shame.

    • @benjamnb
      @benjamnb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it easy to remove the throttle? many trails near me are only legal for pedal assist. I am new to E bikes

    • @ArthurDentZaphodBeeb

      @@benjamnb Yes, very easy. Just remove the throttle (2 screws) and disconnect wire - plug detaches up near stem.

    I have the new AM 1000 and I couldn't have chosen a better bike! It's fast, Torque Galore and can take on any trail! I ride aggressive and have sent this bike over some narley terrain here in Canada. I submerged it crossing a river and 1100 km later it's still shredding! The only thing I would change is the noise it makes. The motor is really loud. Was thinking of buying a silent gear from Luna Cycle. Heard they are awesome! any tips?

    Hello there!
    Adrian speaking here!
    Really thinking of getting one of this babys, and on Friday I'm going to test one, perhaps I will upload a video about it.
    It's sad that there are not many videos on TH-cam about this beasts!
    "Cheap" and reliable compared to Bosch...
    I had a moustache Friday with Bosch gen 2 and on the last year's it's been giving me troubles with errors on the dash, which to fix I need to buy a new motor (£650 for a gen 2... )... That's crazy, right?
    Anyway, looking forward to own one of this software free, powerful yet reasonably priced ebikesBeasts!
    Keep in touch and looking forward for more of your content!
    Perhaps in the future we can organise something together!
    Best regards,
    Adrian

      Hi Adrian. Well, £5395.00 is still not cheap for the EX pro, but it destroys all other eMTBs, so it's still a good deal. Very good components on it too. The Bafang ultra mid drive motor is ridiculous. Time will tell if it's reliable or not, but right now the whole bike seems like it is built as solid as a Panzer tank!

      Agreed! It's still 5 grand on it! Plus any other mod I'll be doing on it 😉
      Collecting it tomorrow 💪
      Ready to send it!!!
      Bafang is proven te ability to output 4.000w with a 72v / 40amps controller+battery...
      That makes it plenty reliable, been doing my research a year ago and been saving for this moment!
      Now it is time to enjoy!!!
      I'll post some videos about my experience 😉

      Hi Cai, sorry late reply. I do love the bike but it’s been winter and I have not ridden that much. Spring is coming! I will be out a lot more. This bike is heavy and I am still getting tired even if I’m riding with full assistance. Because the way I ride is aggressive so I have to throw the bike around quite a lot. And the bike is long. I cannot do the same exact riding as on a normal mtb. I have lost some ability because of this bike, but gained some new powers! More videos soon and now I have the GoProMax360 camera 😀

However I would like to hear from real riders like you are. Could you help me please with some answers to make decision, i have two more options.
    What bike size you have and how tall are you?
    Did you buy bike over Frey web shop or from UK dealer?
    Did you pay any additionally customs or tax fee? I'm from Croatia and Frey Team said that they deliver to my door (DDP parity) with all duties and fees paid.
    And last one, is it black colour glossy or matte?

      Hi, thanks for the positive comment. Firstly have a look at my reply to a comment above about the weight being heavy and the bike being longer than a standard eMTB. Keep that in mind if you need to transport the bike around. but as i say, the weight worries go away when your are riding it! Go to Urban Moto UK (assuming you are in the UK). They have them now. I have a size large. There is only size large and size medium is a special as far as i understand. I am 172cm tall, 5'7.5 I used to be 5'8 before i broke my ankle two years ago on an e bike ))). Anyway, i have the large but i like a larger cockpit anyway. I don't like being cramped on a bike. The size to ride for me, it totally fine. This bike is Chinese remember, so size large might be more like a size medium in the EU. The EX pro is going to be the most power and fun that you will have on an eMTB, probably. Bear in mind though, that you can't throw it around like a light eMTB. But, if you take the top battery off the whole bike is 5kg lighter, and it feels significantly different, in my humble opinion.

      @trancewinston1027  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, i never knew there was a place in Gloucester that sells them, thanks. Yeah it's heavy, and i cant throw it around on downhill trails like my previous bikes, but actually taking the second battery off makes a considerable difference, 30kg instead of 35. It feels more like a regular e bike then. You're right it's long. I was surprised when i first tried to put it in my van and it wouldn't fit like my previous bike did. But, i found a new position and still got it in with both wheels on. Overall it's a mega fun machine and turns flat boring trails into the exhilliaration of downhill. That's why i bought it.

      It'll last just as long as it would where you to pedal at the speed your moving. Doesn't apply any more torque than your legs at the same speed. The throttle is fine to use I just wouldn't use it 100% certainly wouldn't remove it. It's great for helping you get through slow technical sections actually where you'd have to push hard enough to affect balance.
