Sweet job guys! Although I know it isn't, you made it look easy. Agreed, this is a 3-4 man job. That way you have someone smoothing out sealant as you lay it down.
I have 997.1turbo.45000miles,run.I am planning whole refreshment of my 997turbo next year. The refreshment will include engine overhaul, exterior painting, and interior renewal.Your video is very nice for me because it teach me a lot.I didn’t know that roof panel is changeable.Of course lighter roof panel should give us higher performance. I will add the carbon roof into my refresh menu.I am looking forward to next video and completion of your 997turbo restoration.
This reminds me of when I cut the roof off my 95 acura legend coupe. I built the first and only targa top ever. I'm getting ready to redo that job again lol
The best way to perfect silicone lines to make them smooth with your finger is to spray them lightly with denatured alchohol and quickly start spreading! Also I love the vibes you guys have throughout the shop / videos and I'd imagine yalls days don't feel like work!
Shame they didn't mould the Sport Classic hump in the roof but that roof looks fantastic, I really thought you had lost the plot but you clearly did your homework.
Yo man! Love the vids so far, and looking forward to every one of them! The only concern I had during this video, was that during the talking-phases without music, I only had sound on my left ear? Looks like the camera / settings you're using at 8:40 for instance, and 1:30 to 4:30 ish? Those are just the quick moments I remember from the top of my head. :) Keep up the good work my dude 8)
@@robinplutte2152 Of course once you brought that up I had to come straight home and try to find the issue. Very very weird... the last time it was the whole video, this time only portions of it. I have a fix, but can't find the root cause.
Wow!!! Awesome !! I just subscribed to follow all your craft project! It came to my mind a question? There will be no water leak on the center of those rivets? (between the remaining piece of the pin and the rivet inselft) maybe could be a good idea to cover it with some epoxy as well! Cool!
Congratulations, that looks awesome! When I read the title of the video...I got concerned, I half expected a drop-top conversion...looking forward to the next video :)
These videos and the Matt Ross's 996 rebuild series make me want to reign from my job, neglect family duties, abandon my BMW, take out huge loans and get a 911 Turbo myself ;) cheers from Germany!
Hey love the video got a hack for u if u get a cup of alcohol when apply silicon dip your fingers in the alcohol and it will make it much easier to apply it like butter .
3m 5200 is insane stuff. When they say permanent they aren't kidding. Used it on my boat. 4200 works well for stuff that might need to be removed. For just sealing that gutter I think 4200 would have been better. At least some scrap yard in the future can save the roof with 4200. I've tried air chisels, nothing will remove that stuff, even the chemicals used to remove the stuff doesn't work.
You guyes are really impressive, and super inspiring. I really love your idea of making cash, where you in the same time are making sure that everything from from the engine and drivetrain, to basically everything else that's usable on a car, is being used. Such a shame I'm so far away. I would really appreciate a visit to your shop and see "live" if you will, what you're doing, and of course see some of the inventory you gott. Love your videos by the way 😊😊😊 Best regards from a Norwegian owned Tor-Red 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, with 3 000 miles, and super prestine conditions.
I think you got a bit carried away with the amount of rivets you used. Each one of those rivets is a possible area for water to leak. This was a great upgrade and I applaud you for taking this on and doing a great job.
This was a intimidating job to take on and I think it turned out great. I look forward to your downloads so we can watch everything come to completion on this build. Can't wait to see how your engine build comes together on this car and how much power it is going to make. Are you planning on using a factory Porsche color for the repaint?
@@scraplifegarage HEY bud do you still have those BLACK CORVETTE RIM'S you switched over from that rust colored Corvette?????If you do are they for sale & what are u asking for them THANKS 👍

Thank you so much for sharing this walkthrough of what could be a very scary job! Unless I missed it, I don't see the way you reattached the gutters. Are they (or could they be) reattached in a way where the roof rack mounts are still trustworthy? I'm in a very small demographic who wants both a carbon roof and a roof rack.
The gutter clips slide right in! I haven’t done it because I need to paint the car but they fit just like stock. There is absolutely no reason you can’t also reuse the roof rack hardware either.
Next time you gotta run a bead of silicone, get a wet rag, make sure your finger is wet , don't press hard as soon as it starts to build up stop and wipe your finger on the wet rag. This gets your finger wet for the next pull. You can also feel the silicone start to drag when your finger starts to dry. Normally you can get about 4 to 6 inches out of each pull. Haven't looked at the comments, if I'm repeating someone ignore this comment.

@@scraplifegarage Absolutely not. My 928 GTS Manual has a great sunroof, zero buffeting. My 993 Turbo 4 had no sunroof and was too dull with 4WD and too narrow a power band and pedals too close and the steering wheel & gearshift too far away when the pedals were correctly distanced and no centre console armrest and an exhaust note stifled by the turbo chargers. damn you added all the weight back with those rivets XD looks great, nice quality on the roof if it didnt crack anywhere
Rather safe than sorry I suppose!
It’s probably 1.5 lbs at absolute most, and having your roof peel or fly of at 200 mph is not worth that weight savings lol
Great modification, I will have to look at doing this to the next Turbo car I own.
